Pitt QB Eli Holstein shaves his head in solidarity with multi-organ transplant patient

A star of Pittsburgh's other big football team made a special visit to a patient at UPMC Children's Hospital on Friday. Pitt Panthers quarterback Eli Holstein took the time to visit Julia Espinosa, a multi-organ transplant patient. Because of her procedures, Julia has lost 95% of her hair and decided to shave her head. So in solidarity, and to support the fight she's put up, Eli decided to shave his head along with hers. He told KDKA-TV that it was the least he could do to show support. "It's something that's, you know, a big stepping stone in her treatment and process getting better, and we just wanted to come out here and help her, and I wanted to show her that she's not alone," Holstein said. "Pitt football's behind her, the whole Pitt community is also behind her, so I know that put a smile on her face, and I was happy to do that." Julia is originally from Seattle, but her family moved to the Pittsburgh area in 2022 because her doctors felt Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh was the best option in the country for her care. She also served as an honorary captain at a Pitt home game last season.

Pitt Panthers Football Preview 2025: Win Total Prediction, Top 10 Players, Keys to the Season

Pitt Panthers Key to the Season The offensive line has to tighten 2023 Panthers allowed 23 sacks. In 2022, they gave up 19. Last year, the O line struggled to hold up against anyone, allowing 43 sacks and 100 tackles for loss. It should be a stronger front five, and it starts with … Pitt Panthers Key Player Ryan Baer, OT 6-7, 325-pound veteran can play either tackle spot, and he'll likely be moved around in fall camp depending on how the incoming transfers work out. The size and experience are in place, and now he and the rest of the line have to be a rock in pass protection. Pitt Panthers Top Transfer, Biggest Transfer Loss Top Transfer In: James London, PK course, there are several new Panthers with more talent, but none will likely play a bigger Pitt kicker Ben Sauls hit 21-of-24 field goals, all 44 extra points, and now it's up to London to be clutch for a team that played six games decided by five points or fewer. London has a huge leg, hitting 16 of 22 field goals for Murray Transfer Out: Sincere Edwards, EDGE weren't many tough losses through the portal, but Edwards is a rising star pass rusher who made 17 sacks and three sacks with six tackles for loss in his first season. He's now a part of the UCF defensive front. Pitt Panthers Key Game Louisville, Sept. 27How much better are the Panthers this year? Last season, they were whacked by the Cardinals 37-9 late in November, and this time around it's the ACC opener in Acrisure. The road games are coming - four in five dates after starting with UofL and Boston College - so if there's any hope of being in the ACC title chase, it starts here.- 2025 Pitt Schedule Breakdown Pitt Panthers Top 10 Players 1. It has to go to Notre Dame and West Virginia, but that's not the problem. Pitt will almost certainly be ACC Championship or Bust when it comes to the College Football Playoff. It doesn't have to deal with Clemson or SMU, and missing Virginia Tech, North Carolina, and - don't snicker - Cal and Duke is a plus. But there can't be any road games of Florida State, Syracuse, and Miami are rough, and while it should roll past Stanford, that's a long flight coming off a date against NC State. This won't be the 11-3 season of 2021, and it won't be the 3-9 clunker of 2023. Even though the Panthers will be better, it'll be somewhere in the middle of that once The Pitt Panthers Win Total At … 6.5Likely Wins: Central Michigan, Duquesne50/50 Games: Boston College, at Florida State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, NC State, at Stanford, at Syracuse, at West VirginiaLikely Losses: at Miami, at Notre Dame2025 Pitt PreviewPitt Offense BreakdownPitt Defense Breakdown © 2025 The Arena Group Holdings, Inc. Steelers' Beanie Bishop says it would be 'pretty cool' to sign 'funny guy' Aaron Rodgers

Steelers' Beanie Bishop says it would be 'pretty cool' to sign 'funny guy' Aaron Rodgers Despite being unsigned, Aaron Rodgers may be one of the most polarizing figures in Pittsburgh — but not if you asked second-year Steelers CB Beanie Bishop Jr. Bishop — whose recent disrespect of the Pitt Panthers football logo has gone viral — was asked on Day 5 of OTAs what it would mean to have Rodgers on the Steelers. Having been linked to Rodgers last season for intercepting two passes from the four-time MVP — and hilariously asking him to sign them — here's what Bishop had to say about the veteran QB (courtesy of Steelers Live): "I think it would be a cool thing. You know, obviously, to have another guy that's ultimately going to be in the Hall of Fame," Bishop said. "I met him when he was in the facility — he's a funny guy. So, I think it'll be pretty cool." Bishop is, of course, referencing the 'secret' meeting at the Steelers facility back in March, during which Rodgers went to great lengths to avoid the media from turning it into a headline — but clearly, he made a positive impression on the young Steelers CB. Nebraska volleyball releases 2025 schedule

Nebraska volleyball releases 2025 schedule Nebraska released the volleyball schedule for the 2025 season earlier this week. The Huskers finished the 2024 season with a 33-3 record. They also won the Big Ten title with a 19-1 conference mark. They entered the NCAA Tournament as the third overall seed, making it all the way to the semifinals before falling to eventual national champion Penn State. One of the key storylines for this season will be new coach Dani Busboom Kelly. She took over in January 2025, following the retirement of legendary coach John Cook. Now, Nebraska volleyball will begin a new era. The Huskers kick off the season on Friday, Aug. 22, when they host the Pitt Panthers at Pinnacle Bank Arena as part of the AVCA First Serve Showcase. They start Big Ten play against the Michigan Wolverines on Wednesday, Sep. 24, in Lincoln, Nebraska. They close the 2025 season on Nov. 29 at home against Ohio State. The program looks poised for another major run in 2025, but will have to try to replace All-Americans Lexi Rodriguez and Merritt Beason. Things will look a bit different on the sidelines without Cook, but the program should be in good hands with a new head coach, and most of last season's starters are returning. Find the entire schedule below. Contact/Follow us @CornhuskersWire on X (formerly Twitter), and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Nebraska news, notes, and opinions.
