Mendon advances, McQuaid's season ends in regionals
The pitchers dominated tonight's game, but it was at the plate where Samuel Harrigan sent Pittsford Mendon to the Class A state semifinals. Evan Beiter for Amherst and Cameron Barbulean for Mendon controlled the majority of the ballgame. The two pitchers gave up just five hits in total. In extra innings, the game was tied 0-0 in the bottom of the ninth. Colden Forney cracked a single into left field to put the winning run on base. A bunt from Barbulean advanced Forney to second base, putting the winning run in scoring position. Harrigan then stepped up with a chance to end the game and did just that. A deep fly ball to right field hit off the wall and sent Forney home for the walk-off RBI. Mendon's season stays alive as it moves on to the Class A semifinals, where it will play the winner of Rye (I) and La Salle (II). The semifinal is scheduled for next Friday at 1 p.m. After five scoreless innings, Niagara Falls' bats came alive in the sixth to lift it to the win in the Class AAA Far West Regional. Cole Englert pitched the first five innings for the Knights, keeping Niagara Falls scoreless. In the top of the sixth, Niagara Falls put together a three-run inning highlighted by a bunt from Andrew Brydges good for two RBIs. Niagara Falls added two more runs in the seventh to keep it in front and come away with the win to advance to the Class AAA semifinals. McQuaid ends its season 16-7. Pittsford Mendon captures first Sectional Title in 24 years
Class A Final: (1) Pittsford Mendon 7, (7) Eastridge 1 For the first time since 2001, the Pittsford Mendon Vikings are Sectional champions, thanks in large part to the tournament MVP, Cameron Barbulean, as the senior pitcher let up only one run. With an early 1-0 lead, the Vikings pulled even further away in the second, off a Colden Forney two-RBI double, before Barbulean brought in one of his own, making it a 4-0 ballgame. Eastridge would cut the lead down to three, with an Evan Bishop RBI single in the top of the third. Defense reigned supreme until the bottom of the sixth, when another Forney RBI, a passed ball, and a Josiah Martin RBI would extend the lead to six, and give the Vikings the 7-1 victory. Mendon will move on to face Section VI Class A champion Amherst Central in the state quarterfinals. That game will be played at Innovative Field this Friday at 4 p.m. Eastridge finishes their season at 14-10. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
