Survey reveals this is everyone's favorite weather app, by far
One of the staple apps ever since smartphones came into existence are weather apps. While weather apps have existed for decades, user preferences have changed over the years. The weather apps that we once loved have shuttered, and their place has been taken by newer competitors with their own advantages. In our quest to find the current best weather app, we asked you what weather app you prefer on your phone, and the answer has been overwhelmingly in Pixel Weather's favor. With over 47% of the votes, the Pixel Weather app was the crowd favorite by a wide margin. This result is even more surprising because Pixel Weather is a Pixel-exclusive app, so you can't use it on any other Android phone without jumping through a bunch of hoops. Still, the app works well enough to hook all Pixel users in and provide them with everything they need, so they don't have to look for alternatives.

Past Pixel problem resurfaces again creating chaos in users' lives
Over the last few years, there have been some times when alarms weren't ringing on Pixel handsets. In 2022, 2023 (on Pixel Fold models), and earlier this year, some Pixel users complained on social media that they missed appointments, showed up late for work, and arrived at school after class started because their Pixel failed to do a simple task that most modern smartphones can handle with ease. That is, set off an alarm at the time selected by the user. Starting a few days ago, Pixel users returned to Reddit to complain that the alarms they set on their Pixel handsets are not going off. One Redditor even included a screenshot showing that his phone failed to ring alarms he set for the same day at 7:30 am and 8:00 am. Under the Missed Alarm notification he received for both botched alarms, it says that "Alarm did not fire due to an unknown reason." Another Pixel user with alarm issues contacted Google. He was told that because the Alphabet unit couldn't replicate the problem, they are not actively looking for a fix. This isn't an issue that Pixel users can choose to forget about. For example, one Pixel owner wrote to say that a failed alarm "Happened to me once on a work trip, and of course [on] the day I'm leaving." He missed the plane and "Had to schedule a different flight." He posted, "Was late to work by 2 hours because of this. Woke up with the sun out and confused as I normally get to work just as the sun rises. Then jolted up as I realized my Pixel alarm didn't go off." Funnily enough, another Pixel user has the opposite problem. "Bruh, I get alarms that I don't even set at 4:30 in the morning. Maybe your alarms are going off in my phone LOL." Of course, there are plenty of third-party alarms that can be downloaded from the Play Store. There are some that try to get you up by having you solve a math problem to turn off the alarm. One such app that was recommended by a Pixel user is Alarm Clock Xtreme & Timer (tap here to install from the Play Store). However, according to some of the recent reviews of the app in the Play Store, the app has started having glitches. Perhaps a simple, basic approach is best. Hidden controls in latest QPR beta help Pixel users customize their lock screen clocks
The slider can be found in the updated Wallpaper & style app. Go to Settings > Wallpaper & style > Clock . You'll see the options for changing the look of the lock screen clock along with the slider directly underneath. Swipe your finger across the slider to see the different options you can choose from. The recently released Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 update adds another customization option that is hidden from Pixel users in the beta. This option allows you to choose between a "rounded" or a "sharp" font for the clock. This works only with the default clock. Once again go to Settings > Wallpaper & style > Clock . From the preview image of the default clock, long-press on the clock itself and you will see a notification that says either "Style changed to round" or "Style changed to sharp." Tapping on the clock will continually alternate between the "round" or "sharp" styles. The "sharp" image uses a straight line on the starting and ending points of the numerals while the "round" style uses, well, a rounded line at the spots where a numeral starts and ends. You might find the style of one of the two options more to your liking although it is such a minor customization that most people will prefer just to leave this alone. Now, in the unlikely event that these two lock screen clock customization features have you chomping at the bit to install the beta, I can tell you from personal experience that this is not the type of beta software that will brick your phone or take away your must-have features. What's going on with Extra Dim on Pixel phones running Android 16?

Android 16 QPR1 will suggest photo wallpapers of your loved ones from Google Photos

The suggestions are curated from your Google Photos library, mainly featuring people and pets. Users can revoke access if they don't want their photos to appear as suggestions when setting a wallpaper. Setting your phone's wallpaper is the first and often underrated step towards personalizing your device and making it truly yours. There are a ton of wallpaper options out there, and we even have some favorites from the Google Pixel lineup. While abstract art and landscape photography make for great wallpaper choices, many of us prefer something even more personal, like a photo of a loved one, right on our home screen. However, sifting through hundreds of photos to find one good picture to set as a wallpaper is tedious. Google is changing the game for Pixel users running Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1, now suggesting personalized wallpapers from the photos they have clicked and uploaded to Google Photos. The Wallpaper & Styles app from Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 includes the following string: Code Copy Text Suggested photos While the string doesn't directly mention it, Google Photos is the default photo app in the QPR beta, so photo suggestions are most likely to come from there. With a recent Google Play System update, as well as after updating the Google Photos app to v7.31, the Wallpaper and Styles app on Google Pixels on Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 now suggests wallpapers from your Google Photos libraries in the main wallpaper selection screen, We can see six photos as suggestions. It seems the images are selected with a bias towards people and pets. If you don't want your images to appear in the Wallpaper & Style app as suggestions, you can revoke its access from the Google Photos app. Surfacing photos directly in the Wallpaper & Styles app is a nice touch, especially since many people would love to have their children, partners, parents, or pets showcased on their home screen. The app also allows users to select other photos if they don't like the current suggestions. Such a change puts the personal touch into personalization, and we're all in for it.
