Larry Fitzgerald's son commits to Notre Dame, joining other NFL legends' children with Fighting Irish

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have brought in yet another son of a former NFL star. Devin Fitzgerald — the son of Arizona Cardinals star Larry Fitzgerald, who should be heading to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2026 with his first time ballot — announced his commitment on Saturday. He also considered UCLA, but ultimately chose the Fighting Irish. Fitzgerald is ranked the 55th-best receiver in his 2026 class, per He is a three-star prospect out of Brophy Prep in Arizona. He won't be the only son of a former NFL great looking to make his own mark on the game, as the Fighting Irish will be filled with the next generation. The receivers room alone has Jerome Bettis Jr., the son of Pittsburgh Steelers legend Jerome Bettis; Elijah Burress, whose father is Super Bowl-champion receiver Plaxico Burress; and Kaydon Finley, the son of Green Bay Packers Super Bowl-champion Jermichael Finley. On defense, Thomas Davis Jr., the son of ex-Carolina Panthers All-Pro Thomas Davis, also said he's heading to South Bend in 2026. Fitzgerald revealed to ESPN that Notre Dame offered him a scholarship in May following his junior season, where he hauled in 52 receptions for 720 yards with nine touchdowns. He also has a good relationship with Mike Brown, who he has known "since I was 5 years old." "I've developed into a better ballplayer, and they really think I'm going to turn into a great player," Fitzgerald told ESPN. "…He's shown me that I can come in, step up and play early. That's their plan with me." The elder Fitzgerald became a star at Pitt during his college days, as he won the Biletnikoff Award in 2003 as just a sophomore. He had over 1,000 yards in each of his two seasons as a Panther before entering the 2004 NFL Draft. He ended up being the third overall pick by the Cardinals, and they kept him for 17 years. Fitzgerald would go on to have 1,432 catches for 17,492 yards and 121 touchdowns. He also won the 2016 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. "Having my dad there to help me throughout the recruiting process has been great," Devin Fitzgerald said of his father's influence. "He knows what's important." Steelers Botched Pickens Trade Due To DK?

The Pittsburgh Steelers pulled off a surprise trade after the NFL Draft, trading away their leading receiver of the past two seasons in George Pickens. The move was especially surprising after the team acquired DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks, with many fans gearing up for an explosive receiver tandem. Advertisement The tandem never got to step foot in the same room together before the Steelers shipped Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys for future draft capital. According to former Steelers wideout Plaxico Burress, it was a bad idea for the Steelers, as Burress believes Pickens is better then Metcalf. 'How this hurts the Pittsburgh Steelers, they didn't get any better," Burress said. "I don't believe, when it comes down to playing the position and playing the game of football, that DK Metcalf is a better wide receiver than George Pickens. I would not agree to that. We know that George Pickens, when he's playing and he's focused, he's one of the top five ball players at the position. There's no dispute in that. There's no doubt about it, but we got to get the young man focused so he can reach his full potential and become one of these elite wide receivers in all of football." Buress is referring to maturity issues that have plagued Pickens dating back to his collegiate career at Georgia. There's no doubting Pickens' talent, but would he be Batman in a receiver room featuring DK Metcalf, or would he perhaps be better suited as a Robin? Advertisement And of course now, in Dallas, a similar question about CeeDee Lamb and Pickens teaming up with the Cowboys. WIll Pickens be a happy Robin? Pickens had his most productive season in his sophomore campaign in 2023, where he took 63 catches for 1,140 yards and five touchdowns, leading the NFL with 18.1 yards per reception. Pickens only logged 14 games and 12 starts last season but still managed 900 yards and three touchdowns in 59 receptions. Metcalf, however, has eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark thrice in his six year NFL career, and has never had less than 900 in a single season. His most productive season by yards was also his sophomore campaign in 2020, where he had 1,303 yards and 10 touchdowns. Advertisement This past season, Metcalf appeared in 15 games, making 12 starts, and he hauled in 66 receptions for 992 yards and five touchdowns. Ex-Giants WR Plaxico Burress' Super Bowl XLII ring sells for near-record

The Super Bowl XLII ring that once belonged to New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress has officially sold at auction. Heritage Auctions revealed on Sunday that the championship ring sold for a whopping $280,600, setting a near-record. It is the second-most expensive Super Bowl ring ever sold behind the Super Bowl V ring belonging to Baltimore Colts head coach Don McCafferty, which fetched a price of $300,000 in 2022. Burress' ring was put up for auction by an anonymous owner in February and was accompanied by a letter of authentication from the wide receiver himself. 'I, Plaxico Burress, certify this Super Bowl Championship ring, a copy of which is pictured below along with the ring box (on page two), is the actual, authentic ring I received on May 29, 2008 at a private ceremony held with my New York Giants teammates at Tiffany and Co. in New York City,' he wrote in the letter. 'I received this actual ring as a member of the New York Giants who won Super Bowl XLII held February 3, 2008 against the New England Patriots in Phoenix, AZ. 'I further certify this ring is the one and only ring and that no duplicate copies were produced.' The date on the authentication letter suggests Burress sold the ring in November (11/16/24). Burress, who is currently working as a FOX Sports Radio host, has dealt with a series of legal and financial issues in the aftermath of Super Bowl XLII, beginning with an accidental self-inflicted wound in 2008 that landed him in jail for 20 months. A first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2000 NFL draft, Burress retired following the 2013 season.

Plaxico Burress's Super Bowl ring sells for $280,600

Former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress's Super Bowl XLII ring has fetched $280,600 at auction. Heritage Auctions announced that the ring won by Burress went for that price in an auction this weekend. Burress's ring has historical significance because he caught the game-winning touchdown pass in the Giants' win over the Patriots, which ended the Patriots' attempt at an undefeated season and the first 19-0 record in NFL history. The $280,600 price tag is believed to be the second-most expensive Super Bowl ring ever sold. The Super Bowl V ring won by Baltimore Colts head coach Don McCafferty sold for $300,000 in 2022. Burress made about $30 million during his NFL career but has a history of financial problems, civil lawsuits and findings that he failed to pay taxes.
