AMD Stock Leaps on PlayStation 5 Pro FSR 4 Integration
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) stock was up on Wednesday after the semiconductor company revealed its FSR 4 technology will be added to Sony's (SONY) PlayStation 5 Pro consoles in 2026. This will be an upgrade to the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which debuted alongside the powered-up PS5 in 2024. FSR 4 is already available to PC gamers, offering artificial intelligence (AI)-upscaled images for more detailed displays. The technology is the result of the Project Amethyst collaboration between the two companies. This development partnership will also likely lead to new technology that will power the planned PlayStation 6. Unfortunately, owners of the base PlayStation 5 won't see the advantages that FSR 4 will offer. That's due to the console lacking the necessary hardware for this tech. This is also why the game console doesn't have PSSR support. AMD Expands Its Video Game Console Dominance Sony isn't the only entertainment company that AMD has teamed up with. The company also signed a development deal with Microsoft (MSFT) to develop gaming hardware. This has the company's semiconductor technology acting as the core of Xbox devices, including the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally X handheld gaming PC. PlayStation and Xbox both use AMD's chips for their consoles. The only one of the big three console makers that doesn't is Nintendo (NTDOF). Its Switch 2 handheld/home console hybrid is powered by Nvidia (NVDA) technology. AMD stock was up 1.74% as of Wednesday morning and has risen 14.6% year-to-date. However, the shares are still down 16.96% over the past 12 months. Is AMD Stock a Buy, Sell, or Hold? Turning to Wall Street, the analysts' consensus rating for AMD is Moderate Buy, based on 24 Buy and 10 Hold ratings over the past three months. With that comes an average AMD stock price target of $133.55, representing a potential 3.51% downside for the shares.

PS5/PS5 Pro Reportedly Getting New Mode That Has Fans Excited
The and are reportedly getting a new developer mode that signals a major development, according to insiders. A known Sony leaker has gotten hold of documents which suggest that the company is rolling out a 'low power mode' for both consoles, enabling which would draw less power and lower energy consumption while running games. The leak comes from none other than YouTuber Moore's Law Is Dead (MLID), who was the first insider to leak the PS5 Pro and internal Sony documents with its specs, prompting an official copyright strike. Now, MLID claims that they have similar documents with information about the said low power developer mode. Without going into too much technical jargon, it seems that this mode will run games with reduced specs. MLID is convinced that this mode is designed for games to run on the rumored new PlayStation handheld. Here's what the low power mode will reportedly do (thanks, ResetEra): Limit CPU to 8 threads Reduces GPU clocks by ~15% Cut GDDR 6 bandwidth in half Reduce 3D Audio Processing performance by 75% Limits PS5 Pro to 36 Compute Units No PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) or VR support The idea here is that targeting this mode mode will ensure that there is a version of each game that runs on the upcoming handheld as well. Another known leaker, Kepler_L2, agrees with MLID's theory. 'This is 100% an emulated performance profile for the handheld since the biggest weakness of that APU is memory bandwidth, and this profile is reducing PS5 bandwidth,' they tweeted. Fingers crossed for a new PlayStation handheld! The post PS5/PS5 Pro Reportedly Getting New Mode That Has Fans Excited appeared first on PlayStation LifeStyle.

PS6 Development Milestone Teased by AMD
AMD has once again teased its collaboration with Sony on , stating that its release of FSR 4 is 'just the beginning.' AMD's latest upscaler was co-developed by Sony, who provided assistance with the models used to train FSR 4, including PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). In a tweet celebrating FSR 4 on X, AMD said that it's 'proud to collaborate with PlayStation on Project Amethyst.' Last December, Sony confirmed that Project Amethyst was a joint effort between the two companies to create technology based on machine learning for graphics and gameplay. 'FSR 4 is looking fantastic!' AMD continued. 'Excited for the co-development with Sony Interactive Entertainment on the models used for the FSR 4 upscaler. This is just the beginning. Stay tuned for what's next!' While Sony didn't explicity mention PS6's development when it announced its partnership with AMD, it's an open secret at this point. Rumors of the companies working together on next-gen platforms had been circulating for almost a year before Sony announced Project Amethyst. Sony and AMD have enjoyed a strong partnership since the PS4. Last July, an AMD veteran revealed that the company was on the verge of financial disaster when Sony came along and saved it from bankruptcy by tasking it with PS4's production. Speculation suggests that PS6 will release sometime in late 2027. The post PS6 Development Milestone Teased by AMD appeared first on PlayStation LifeStyle.
