India XI vs England: Pant, Anshul Out; Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav In Side By Irfan Pathan

Will India ring in many changes for the fifth and final Test against England? One will be a forced one - Rishabh Pant has been ruled out due to a foot injury and Dhruv Jurel will take his place. Jasprit Bumrah will also not play, according to sources. That means there is a place up for grabs for a pacer too. Anshul Kamboj, who made his debut in the 4th Test, may also not get a chance. That leaves one more slot. Former Indian cricket team star Irfan Pathan opined that Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav should get a look-in. "I feel Jurel will come in place of Pant. He will bat there. Kuldeep in place of Bumrah, according to me. And for Anshul Kamboj, there will be a question. Arshdeep, left-arm pacer, do you make him debut? Kamboj debuted and there was lot of pressure on him. But Arshdeep is still different. He is a regular in white-ball and has the wicket-taking ability. It will be comparatively easy for him to debut. Will they look at Prasidh? either one of them. So you have six bowling options. The pacers will be tired, you could see that is Siraj too. Then use Kuldeep, new and fresh. Bring in your trump card for the final match and level the series," he said on his YouTube channel. "Sundar plays at 7,8,9 and suddenly comes at 5 and slams a ton. Since he has come into the team he has been like a boon in batting and bowling. He has given that depth which has made a big difference. It looks like he can fix a spot at 5 or 6 going forward. It is a very big positive in that sense," he said. Shubman Gill, Indian cricket team captain, has all but confirmed that 26-year-old Arshdeep Singh, the left-arm pacer from Punjab, will play the fifth Test against England starting in London on Thursday. Gill also hinted that Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar will be the two front-line spinners, which means Kuldeep Yadav will most likely sit out of the fifth Test also. When asked whether Arshdeep Singh will debut and the fact that England have not gone with their front line spinner Liam Dawson for the fifth Test, the following was Shubman Gill's reply. "Arshdeep Singh has been asked to get ready but we will take a call on the Playing XI after looking at the pitch, by this evening. England haven't gone with a frontline spinner. Jacob Bethell and Joe Root - I think they are going to have their spinning options with them. We have Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar, who have such a good job with the ball and the bat. On their front, it's a no-brainer for us," Gill said in the pre-match press conference on Wednesday. When asked why India have not gone with a specialist bowler and a batting line up that goes deep till No. 8, Gill said: "Washington, he is someone who has given us so much control with the bowling. His batting has been a really big plus for us. We are fortunate to have players like him in the team, who can prevent a collapse. With him we have improved that area." On Jasprit Bumrah, Gill did not conform whether the pacer is ruled out or not. "We will take a decision tomorrow, wicket looks very green. So let's see," he said.

'Don't understand why curator...': Shubman Gill backs coach Gautam Gambhir after pitch drama; provides update on Arshdeep Singh

India captain Shubman Gill backed head coach Gautam Gambhir after his pitch-side spat with The Oval curator ahead of the 5th Test against England. Gill also spoke about team selection, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and India's bowling workload. read more India captain Shubman Gill came out in full support of head coach Gautam Gambhir after a heated exchange between Gambhir and The Oval's chief curator, Lee Fortis. The incident took place during India's practice session on Tuesday, July 29, just before the final Test match against England. Fortis had reportedly asked the Indian coaches to stay at least 2.5 metres away from the pitch area, even though they were wearing joggers. This did not sit well with the Indian camp, and Gambhir was seen visibly angry and scolding Fortis. Gill has now responded to the drama, and has backed Gambhir. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD When asked about the matter in his pre-match press conference, Shubman Gill said the situation was avoidable. 'Coach has every right to look at the wicket. Don't understand why curator won't allow that. As long you are wearing rubber spike or are bare feet (it should not be a problem) ….don't know why he said no. There was no such issue in the last four games,' Gill said. Gill also gave an update on India's team selection, saying that left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has been asked to stay ready for the fifth Test. 'Arshdeep Singh has been asked to get ready but we will take a call on the Playing XI after looking at the pitch, by this evening,' Gill was quoted as saying by the Times of India. Talking about the team's workload, Gill said it has been tough, especially with how much they've had to field. 'It's very difficult when you've fielded for around 160 overs. It's not easy, especially on pitches where fast bowling is used more than spin. Our fast bowlers and team are in a good space. Thankfully, we don't have as many unavailable players as they do…' Gill said. Gill also provided an update on Jasprit Bumrah's availability for the fifth Test. 'We will take a decision tomorrow, wicket looks very green. So let's see,' Gill said. Bumrah had said before the series that he would play just three matches in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. India are trailing 2-1 in the series and will need to win the fifth Test to level it. The match begins on Thursday, July 31, at The Oval in London.

"Do You Expect Him To Take 10 Wickets?": Kapil Dev Slams Young India Star's Critics

Former India captain Kapil Dev backed pacer Anshul Kamboj, who had a lukewarm debut against England in the fourth Test in Manchester. Coming as a replacement of Arshdeep Singh in the squad, the right-arm pacer had big shoes to fill-in as he was named directly into the Playing XI after Akash Deep got injured. However, his debut was not an ideal one as he leaked 89 runs in 18 overs and took just one wicket. Amid all the criticism for his performance, Kamboj found some backing from the 1983 World Cup-winning captain, who urged the fans to give some time to the young pacer. Kapil stated that it is too soon to judge his potential as the team needs to assess Kamboj performance in the upcoming games. "What do you expect from a debutant, that he should take 10 wickets? You have to assess his potential. If he's good enough, he will bounce back. Everyone is nervous when playing their first game. The result may not be ideal, but I believe the ability is there, and that's more important," Kapil told media at the launch of the second-half schedule of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI). He also said the England series will serve as a valuable learning experience for young India skipper Shubman Gill and urged critics to give him some time to grow into the leadership role. "Give him time. This is his first series, he will commit mistakes and there will be many positives over the period of time, he will learn. There is no problem if he is learning. There will be mistakes, but he is learning from his mistakes, that is very important," he said. Gill's India saw England pile up the highest-ever Test total scored at Old Trafford, Manchester during the fourth Test of the series. England made a mammoth first innings score of 669, with Joe Root and Ben Stokes slamming tons. "This is a young team, they are getting the opportunity to play and in the coming days these players will win. It is just a new team. Any new team in the world takes time to adjust. Gill is a new captain, and he will learn a lot and I think this series will be a learning step," he added. (With PTI Inputs)

Kuldeep Yadav's coach rips into Gambhir, Gill for leading conspiracy theory against spinner: 'His career will be over'

Since making his debut against Australia at Dharamsala in 2017, Kuldeep Yadav has surprisingly played just 13 Tests for India. He averages 22.16 in the format and has taken 56 wickets with four 5-wicket hauls and an economy rate of 3.55. Still, the left-arm wrist spinner fails to find any takers when it comes to breaking into the Indian Test team. For years, Kuldeep found himself behind in the pecking order with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja leading India's spin attack. However, with the retirement of Ashwin last year at the end of the Boxing Day Test against Australia, it was believed that Kuldeep would replace him as India's leading spinner. Still no Kuldeep Yadav in India's Playing XI(Reuters) But alas! Here we are. Four Tests into the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, and Kuldeep is nowhere close to being part of the Playing XI. Watching his disciple getting ignored time and again, Kuldeep's childhood coach, Kapil Pandey, hit out at the team management, sensing foul play. Pandey fails to understand why Kuldeep is left out constantly when every other player gets a chance. "We have to decide whether we are looking for a batter or a bowler. If he is a bowler, he should play as a bowler, and he is a top performer, who picked 21 wickets against England in only six Tests. And he also has a hundred (117) in the Ranji Trophy, if you are talking about batting. Three years ago, he also had a 40 against Bangladesh in international cricket," he told SportsBoom. "I thought he would play all five Tests given his form in the ICC Champions Trophy [seven wickets in five matches], and the Indian Premier League [15 wickets in 14]. He is one rare spin bowler who has two ODI hat-tricks. Suddenly, I think people have forgotten about the champion Kuldeep Yadav. Whenever they have dropped a player, it has been him." Kuldeep needs to send a reminder, says Pandey Kuldeep Yadav could have been the X-factor for India in the fourth Test against England at Manchester. However, with India trailing 1-2 in the series, the team chose a cautious approach, sticking with the Jadeja-Washington Sundar combination for their batting contributions. Pandey expressed disappointment that Kuldeep, 30, despite a strong record against England, was sidelined for four consecutive Tests, while highlighting the spinner's dedication and hard work in preparing for the England tour. "He has to pick a five-for again to reclaim his spot. He went for the tour thinking how he would bowl in the first match at Leeds, but his first match is yet to come. He has been out of the side irrespective of the nature of the track; seam or spin," said Pandey. "He has to understand that he is playing for the country, and not every cricketer gets that opportunity. He has to stay positive because this series won't be there after a few days, and a new series will come. He will get his chances, and he has to remind people how he bowled Babar Azam in the World Cup in 2019 and caught Kane Williamson off his bowling in the Champions Trophy final this year." If Shoaib Bashir can play, why can't Kuldeep Yadav? Pandey is baffled by Kuldeep Yadav's continued exclusion from the Indian Test squad, especially when newer players like Sai Sudharsan and Anshul Kamboj have been given Test debuts in the ongoing series. Despite Kuldeep's proven ability, he consistently finds himself overlooked. Pandey took aim at head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill, strongly suggesting a bias against his former student. Pandey is amazed at how India is reluctant to try out Kuldeep, whereas England have constantly backed Shoaib Bashir. "It is strange that India is using left-arm spinners despite having a wrist spinner in the mix. Look at how Shane Warne fared in the English conditions. England doesn't have an option. They don't have a world-class spinner like Yadav. I feel sad that Bashir played three Tests, but Yadav didn't play one. Our players are getting out to Bashir is more surprising. I think I can also bowl like Bashir (laughs)," said Pandey. "They flew in pacer Anshul Kamboj from India, and he is playing the match. It can't happen without the recommendation of the coach or captain. I don't have a problem if anybody gets an opportunity, but imagine the pressure of playing in a series-defining match. If he fails to perform, his career will be over."

BCCI official says Karun Nair's Test career is over due to..., backs THIS star player

Karun Nair Former BCCI selector Devang Gandhi and ex-India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta have raised questions about Karun Nair's future in Test cricket following his disappointing performance in England so far. After being ignored by the selectors for eight years, Karun Nair was handed a rare second chance in international cricket, following his impressive domestic season and also a double century against England lions. But the Karnataka batter failed to prove his worth as he managed to score only 131 runs across six innings at an average of under 22. Nair appeared vulnerable against excellent pace despite facing 249 deliveries in three Test matches. He seemed to be at ease against medium pacers like Chris Woakes, but he struggled against Brydon Carse and Jofra Archer's extra pace and bounce. Ex-selector Gandhi claimed that Nair's trigger movement more especially, the timing of his front foot is his technical weakness. 'If you watch closely, Karun's front foot is still in the air at the point of release from a fast bowler,' Gandhi told PTI. 'That delay makes it harder for him to go back or forward quickly, especially against faster bowlers like Archer or Carse.' Gandhi also acknowledged Nair's commitment at the crease but pointed out that his lack of consistent results is reducing his chances of being picked in the Playing XI. 'He's doing the hard yards, playing over 30 balls in almost every innings, but lapses in concentration and technical timing are costing him. He needs an earlier trigger movement. That's fixable, but at his age, it's not easy. Adapting to different triggers for different bowlers is another option, but that takes time and high-level skill.' he added With India set to play the fourth Test at Old Trafford from July 23, the team management has to take a decision weather to stick with Nair or move forward with youngster Sai Sudarshan, who played a calm and composed knock in the second innings at leeds. Deep Dasgupta also supported Gandhi's take on Sai Sudarshan playing the fourth Test as he said, 'You have to look at the bigger picture,' Dasgupta said. 'Karun is almost 34, and Sai is just starting out. If you've identified Sai as someone who could be part of the Test setup for the next decade, then he needs to be playing in these conditions now.'
