Travis Kelce says he 'can't really read that well' and panicked during SNL table read
Travis Kelce hilariously admits he struggled reading lines for SNL: 'I'm more of an audio guy' (AP Photo/Abbie Parr) We've seen Travis Kelce crush it on the field, light up red carpets, and even thrive in his real-life rom-com with Taylor Swift. But when it came to reading a script for Saturday Night Live? That's where things got dicey. In a brand-new appearance on the Bussin' With The Boys podcast, the Chiefs tight end admitted the hardest part of hosting SNL wasn't live TV, it was something way more basic: reading. The SNL table read had Travis Kelce sweating and not in a fun way Kelce revealed that when he hosted Saturday Night Live in March 2023, the infamous preshow table read was easily the most stressful part. And not because of stage fright because he straight-up struggles with reading. 'The table reading, for a guy that can't really read that well, it was kind of a f--ed situation,' he said. 'I was just focused on, 'Don't f--king skip this line.'' He said the writers' rooms were a blast just bouncing around ideas and having fun. But when it came time to sit down and actually read the full script aloud in front of the cast and writers, he was in full panic mode. 'I'm more of an audio guy': Travis Kelce on why he finds reading tough Kelce explained that he learns better by listening and speaking than by reading text on a page. 'I'm more of an audio guy,' he said, adding that his brain doesn't process written words as smoothly. Still, despite being out of his element, he stayed up until 3 a.m. with the writers to make sure he gave it everything he had. He wanted to earn their respect and honestly, he did. 'I didn't want to just show up and coast because I was the athlete hosting,' Kelce added. 'I wanted to really do the work.' He still nailed the performance and fans are loving his honesty Kelce's SNL performance was a hit. From the 'Please Don't Destroy' skit to that now-iconic American Girl Café sketch, he proved he's not just a football guy, he's got serious comedy chops too. But what's making fans love him even more? Honesty. Travis Kelce might fumble a table read, but he'll never fumble his charm. Whether it's dominating on Sundays or reading sketch scripts with sweaty palms, the guy finds a way to win. It's just another reason why fans love him, he's talented, funny, and above all, real. So yeah, Travis might not be a master of cold reads but he's clearly mastered how to be unapologetically himself. 'Saturday Night Live' unveils season 50's best cast breaks, unaired bloopers, and live mess-ups
Saturday Night Live is pulling back the curtain on season 50's biggest mistakes. The comedy show uploaded a three-minute video highlighting previously unseen bloopers, cast breaks from both rehearsals and live episodes, and mistakes from live episodes on Wednesday. The reel includes footage of hosts like John Mulaney, Charli XCX, Shane Gillis, Nate Bargatze, and Paul Mescal, as well as several moments with cast members Sarah Sherman, Ego Nwodim, Bowen Yang, Mikey Day, Heidi Gardner, and James Austin Johnson. The reel begins with Nwodim's disastrous call-and-response "Weekend Update" snafu, wherein she asked the audience, "These men ain't what?" and the audience responded, "S---!", prompting the broadcasters to cut the audio to avoid an FCC violation. The video also shows Sherman cracking up while attempting to kiss an astronaut puppet from the "Beppo" pre-recorded segment from Mulaney's episode. In another outtake from a pre-recorded segment, "CouplaBeers," Gillis' character accuses Marcello Hernandez's character of farting in the "green room" (the joke didn't make it into the final sketch, but it's safe to assume he was meant to say "break room," as the scene is set in an office and not a performing arts venue). Gillis then fails to pull down Hernandez's pants, prompting Sherman, Hernandez, and himself to burst into laughter. In outtakes from a video promoting Mulaney's episode, the Everybody's Live star cracks up multiple times at Johnson's Bob Dylan impression. Johnson shared the clip on X, noting that filming the segment was his "number one season 50 highlight" as a longtime Dylan fan. "There's probably a 20 minute cut of this that would be a grueling exercise in patience to enjoy, so an ideal Bob fan experience," Johnson wrote. "Three SNL writer Bob fans ([Mulaney], Mike DiCenzo and myself) giggling on the floor for hours, constantly assuring the director Tim Wilkime and producer Grace Shaker this was worth the time and expense." Later, Gardner and Nwodim can both be seen messing up as they shoot the pre-recorded "Mascara Commercial" segment from Lady Gaga's episode. Both actresses are covered in smeared mascara as they struggle to contain their laughter and say their lines. Yang also has a number of gaffes in the blooper reel. He refers to Andy Samberg as "Slamblerg," fails to successfully pronounce "Miss V.P." in a TikTok parody where he sings in front of Maya Rudolph's Kamala Harris, and knocks down a microphone in a live sketch while wearing a blond wig. He also breaks in multiple live sketches after stabbing Ashley Padilla in the leg and after Gardner stuffs her face with food in a sketch with Charli XCX laughs as she calls Please Don't Destroy's Ben Marshall a "dead-eyed ginger." Marshall and fellow PDD member John Higgins also struggle to keep it together as the group's third member, Martin Herlihy, enthusiastically screams, "Boom!" The video ends with Sherman and Devon Walker being blasted with fake blood while shooting "Pip." Off-screen, a crew member yells "Happy birthday, Sarah," as the two comedians laugh. Scarlett Johansson Jokes About ‘Avengers' Box Office In Please Don't Destroy Newark Airport Skit With Bad Bunny
In the final Please Don't Destroy video for the season, the depressed trio were treated to a little vacation complete with first-class airline tickets courtesy of the finale's host Scarlett Johansson. Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy were enjoying the perks of first class alongside glam track suit-wearing Johansson — breaking into a song and dance — until she mentioned that they would be landing at Newark, the New Jersey airport whose recent air traffic control woes have been making national headlines. The guys' concerns were soon validated as the pilots of their plane couldn't make contact with Newark and their navigation screens went black. In the shaking first-class cabin, emergency signs came on, with playing hands flashing next to the 'no smoking' light. Anything to get off your chest?,' Herlihy yelled. 'This might sound corny but the only thing I regret is that Avengers didn't make more money at the box office,' said Johansson, who played the Black Widow in the MCU. Finally, an air traffic controller responded to the pilots' pleas. Played by the episode's musical guest Bad Bunny, he was brand new on the job but, with no one else around, he had to rely on manuals to guide the plane. Naturally, he broke into a song too, which seemed to help. The sketch, which you can watch above, also skewered Please Don't Destroy's lower than usual output this season. 'You're sad the season's over, and you only did like 2 videos?,'Johansson asked them when she first walked into their room. This season, the trio did 6 videos vs. 21 across the previous two seasons. Scarlett Johansson sets new hosting record in Saturday Night Live season finale
Scarlett Johansson made Saturday Night Live history this weekend, becoming the first woman to host the show seven times, closing out SNL's milestone 50th season. The star kicked off the episode with a musical tribute to the long-running sketch show, joined by the full cast, marking a sentimental highlight of the night. The cold open featured James Austin Johnson's Donald Trump in Saudi Arabia, joking about planes and politics, followed by a series of sketches that varied in quality. Johansson played multiple characters throughout the night, including a news anchor obsessed with puns and a partner in a barroom couple's spat with Bad Bunny, who doubled as the evening's musical guest. A 'Please Don't Destroy' sketch about luxury travel gone wrong and a recurring 'Straight Bowen' segment added humor, though some skits — including one about intimacy coordinators — fell flat with audiences. Mike Myers returned briefly for a self-aware sketch referencing his infamous Hurricane Katrina moment with Kanye West (portrayed by Kenan Thompson), while Weekend Update brought back fan-favorite Ms Eggy (Ego Nwodim) for another edgy airport roast. The episode ended with a gross-out Victorian luncheon sketch, and a curtain call that included Colin Jost kissing Johansson onstage and a tribute to longtime SNL producer Lorne Michaels. While the finale showcased Scarlett Johansson's versatility and comedic chops, the episode reflected the show's season-long inconsistency. With cast changes, Michaels' uncertain future, and a British version of the show in the works, fans are left wondering what's next for SNL. The 50th season finale highlighted both the enduring charm and uneven nature of Saturday Night Live — a fitting close to a legacy season.
