Deals: Poco F7 debuts with a price cut, Galaxy S25 Edge also discounted
The Poco F7 launched earlier this week and it comes with a discount right out of the gate. But how does it compare against the other F7 models? The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge has also gotten a price cut. The Poco F7 is powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 and a large 6,500mAh battery. The chipset comes very close to the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 inside the F7 Pro, though the phone can heat up to unpleasant levels during long gaming sessions. 90W wired-only charging is supported. The Poco F7 Pro is £80 more than the vanilla model. It has a smaller display (6.67' vs. 6.83'), but it is sharper (1440p+ vs. 1280p+). The battery is smaller too at 6,000mAh. Both phones have metal frames and IP68 ratings. While the 50+8MP camera setups look the same at first glance, note that the Pro has a larger sensor in the main (1/1.55' vs. 1/1.95') and can record 8K video (both can do 4K @ 60fps, though, which is more important). Going back to the vanilla F7, the Poco X7 Pro is a cheaper alternative at £80 less. It has a smaller 6.67' display and a smaller 6,000mAh battery (90W charging). It's rated IP68/IP69, however, the frame is plastic. The Dimensity 8400 Ultra chipset comes pretty close to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, even in graphics tests. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge was quite pricey at launch, but the good news for people who want slim and light phones is that the price is already falling. You can pick up a 512GB model for £1,100 and you can subtract £100 from that if you have a Prime or Prime Student subscription. Or you can just buy a Samsung Galaxy S25+. Deals: Poco F7 arrives, Pixel 9a, Nothing Phone (3a) Pro, Realme GT 7 on sale
The Poco F7 launched this week, but there are plenty of phones near its price range that should be considered before committing to a purchase. We will also have a quick look at the two other F7 models. The Poco F7 is one of the first phones with the new Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 and offers great performance for the price. The large 6.83' OLED display is great and the 6,500mAh battery lasts a long while (and is quick to charge at 90W to boot). Despite being the vanilla model of a value-oriented series, the F7 has a premium build with an aluminum frame and an IP68 rating. The Poco F7 Pro is €150 more, but its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is only marginally faster. Its display is smaller (6.67' vs. 6.83') and sharper (1440p+ vs. 1280p+). The battery is smaller too at 6,000mAh, which can be felt in the Active Use score, which ended up 1 hour lower. The Pro model has a bigger sensor in the main camera (1/1.55' vs. 1/1.95') and it supports 8K video recording (only on the main cam, though, the ultra-wide doesn't even have autofocus). The Google Pixel 9a is pricier than the F7, despite having less memory. Worse, the Tensor G4 chipset is in a class below the Snapdragons. Whether you prefer the Google Android skin or the Poco one is up to you. The Pixel is pretty efficient, but not enough to make up for its small 5,100mAh battery. And the charging is quite slow (23W vs. 90W). Wireless charging is available, even if at only 7.5W. The Pixel also has an aluminum frame and an IP68 rating. You can get the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro for less than the F7. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 can't even match the Pixel 9a's performance, but Nothing spent its budget on the cameras instead of on the chipset. The 50MP main has a relatively large 1/1.56' sensor and there is a 50MP 3x/70mm telephoto lens – quite rare in this price range! There's also an 8MP ultra-wide on the back and a 50MP selfie camera on the front. Moving closer to flagship territory we find the Poco F7 Ultra. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite and a 5,300mAh battery with 120W wired and 50W wireless charging. The 6.67' 1440p+ OLED display is a 12-bit panel. The phone is equipped with a 50MP main camera (1/1.55'), 50MP telephoto (2.5x/60mm) and 32MP ultra-wide, plus a 32MP selfie camera. The Realme GT 7 is a bit cheaper and is based on the Dimensity 9400e. It comes close to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, though lags behind in single-core CPU and ray tracing GPU tests. The 6.78' 1264p+ 10-bit display has fewer pixels and colors, but it is an LTPO panel. The camera system is similar with a 50MP main (1/1.56'), 50MP telephoto (2x), 8MP ultra-wide and 32MP selfie. The Realme has a huge 7,000mAh battery with fast 120W wired-only charging. It is rated IP69, but only has a plastic frame (the F7 Ultra is rated IP68 and has an aluminum frame). With just €100 between them, it's a tough choice - so which one offers the better deal? The Poco F7 arrives with a single flagship-grade memory option - 12 GB RAM paired with either 256 GB or 512 GB of UFS 4.1 storage, offering a smooth experience and plenty of space for apps, media, and games. The regular F7 is slightly taller, wider, and heavier than the Pro, likely due to its larger battery and screen. Still, both phones remain comfortably within the slim and lightweight category for large-screen devices. The differences in hand are noticeable but not drastic - if you value a more compact feel, the Pro has the advantage here. Both phones have the same design language, and both have IP68 ingress protection. For materials, the front of both phones is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. The back of the F7 Pro is made of glass, while the regular F7 uses high-quality plastic, giving the Pro a slightly more premium feel. The middle frame is plastic on both models, though it's finished nicely to resemble aluminum. Connectivity is also identical for the most part. Both phones support dual SIM functionality, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, and have USB-C ports. However, the Poco F7 supports DisplayPort video output over USB-C, which is missing on the F7 Pro for some reason. The Poco F7 Pro had a slight advantage in our charging speed test, reaching a full charge in just 34 minutes compared to the F7's 39 minutes. The Pro also manages to hit 53% in 15 minutes versus 50% on the F7. The differences are small and likely come down to battery size, but if we're splitting hairs, the Pro edges it. Speaker test Both phones offer stereo speaker setups and support for Dolby Atmos. In our loudness tests, they scored nearly identically, delivering powerful and well-balanced sound. The Poco F7 has slightly deeper bass presence, while the F7 Pro provides a cleaner midrange. There's not a huge difference, but audio enthusiasts might prefer the Pro's more refined tuning, whereas casual users will be happy with either. Performance The Poco F7 and Poco F7 Pro both aim for flagship-class speed, but they diverge significantly in processing power. The Poco F7 is equipped with the brand-new Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, built on a 4nm process with an all-big-core CPU architecture and peak clock speeds around 3.2 GHz. Despite trailing behind the full Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 inside the Pro, it punches well above its mid-range price, delivering robust performance in everyday tasks and light gaming. The F7 Pro's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, however, edges ahead with a stronger GPU, and superior sustained performance under intensive workloads. Xiaomi Poco F7 5G Xiaomi Poco F7 Pro Memory-wise, both phones ship with 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, ensuring smooth multitasking and future-proof headroom. Storage configurations are generous, offering 256 GB or 512 GB of UFS 4.1 memory. Benchmark performance In synthetic benchmarks, the two phones are almost neck and neck in the compound AnTuTu test and even in the Geekbench CPU test. But the GPU-heavy 3DMark Wild Life test reveals a significant gap in performance - 4,795 vs. 3,953. In short, the two phones perform around the same and deliver more than enough speed for most users. However, the F7 Pro is the better performer in graphics-heavy scenarios like games. This, however, clearly comes at the expense of battery efficiency, as the F7 was able to last longer in our game battery test. Camera comparison Although both Poco F7 models deploy a 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilization and phase-detect autofocus, they actually use different sensors. The ultrawide cameras are identical on both phones: an 8 MP camera with a 15 mm lens focal length (read: not terribly wide). Neither camera supports autofocus, which is typical for a budget ultrawide sensor like this one. Selfies are captured by a 20 MP front camera (OmniVision OV20B, f/2.2) on both phones. There's no autofocus here either. Front-facing video is limited to 1080p. Speaking of video, both phones are capable of recording up to 4K at 60fps from the main camera. Ultrawide video remains capped at 1080p and lacks stabilization. Image quality In daylight, the Poco F7 Pro's main camera produces ever so slightly crisper photos. The F7 Pro also has better dynamic range with highlights coming out better preserved. The ultrawide cameras have quite a different output, despite using the same camera hardware. The Poco F7 appears to take less processed ultrawide photos, but we prefer the more sharpened look of the F7 Pro. As for the 2x shots, the ones by the vanilla F7, look decidedly better with superior sharpness and contrast than the Poco F7 Pro. Poco F7: 0.6x • 1x • 2x Poco F7 Pro: 0.6x • 1x • 2x In low-light photography, the two trade blows again. The F7 Pro's ultrawide camera really outshone the F7's with much sharper photos. But when it comes to the main cam, we'd give the nod to the Poco F7 this time around for its sharper output - a difference, which is visible upon closer examination. The F7's advantage continues at 2x zoom, too. Poco F7: 0.6x • 1x • 2x Poco F7 Pro: 0.6x • 1x • 2x Both the Poco F7 and F7 Pro are equipped with the same 20MP front-facing camera, and as expected, selfie image quality is quite similar, but we did spot slightly better highlight retention by the F7 Pro. The Pro's footage exhibits better detail, more natural colors, and better dynamic range. The same holds true in low light as well. The F7 isn't far behind, but the Pro model offers slightly better video quality across the board. Below we have a few framegrabs from the videos taken by the two phones at each focal length, so it's easier to compare to one another. Each phone focuses on different priorities, which makes choosing between them a matter of preference and use case rather than a clear-cut winner. The Poco F7 stands out between the two with its larger 6.83-inch display and lower price tag. It manages excellent performance thanks to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset and offers very good main camera performance with some great 2x digital zoom shots. The Poco F7 Pro, on the other hand, offers a more refined overall experience. It's also a bit lighter and more compact, and has a glass back instead of a plastic one. Its higher-resolution QHD+ AMOLED display is crisper, its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 delivers slightly better performance, and its cameras are slightly more dependable with better HDR processing and better ultrawide performance at night. Video quality is also superior across all cameras. Ultimately, both phones are a great choice and rely on the same formula to provide a great user experience. Poco F7 in Silver Earlier this year, Poco made its first true flagship phone with no-compromise cameras (for the price) in the form of F7 Ultra. It is continuing the value-for-money pitch with its new Poco F7. The latest addition to Poco F-series doesn't feature top-notch cameras, but it delivers almost-flagship-level power, a huge battery, and a head-turning design -- all for $399. There's not much to fault with the phone when you consider the price. It is packed to the brim for a mid-ranger, and here are 7 things you need to know about the new Poco F7. 1. An Attention-Grabbing Design Poco F7 in Silver with shimmery effect Poco has always focused on gamers with its design language, and the F7 is no different. The Poco F7 Cyber Silver Edition, in particular, is very flashy and might come off as an in-your-face design, but the top section has a translucent finish that seems to reveal the underlying vents and circuit boards. This is accentuated by the diagonal neon green lines on the camera module and the mirrored silver finish on the rest of the back that shimmers with rainbow colours. The White and Black variants, by contrast, aren't as flashy but retain the two-tone finish. All of them are rated IP68 for dust and water resistance, which isn't the norm for $400 smartphones. I love the Poco F7 design. It evokes the gaming and performance-centric appeal very well. While I'm not fond of the flat sides because they aren't ergonomic, the F7 is easy on the wrist and comfortable to use for long durations, especially while gaming. 2. On Par With 2024's Flagship Performance The Poco F7 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset. While it belongs to the 2025 chipset family, it doesn't have the new Oryon CPU cores, which puts it on par with last year's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. It is paired with 256GB of UFS 4.1 storage and 12GB of RAM in the base model. The Poco F7 Ultra and F7 situation is like the OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R, where the flagship phone offers current-year performance and the lower-end version matches the previous year's power. That said, it isn't weak by any means. In fact, the Poco F7 is the most powerful $399 phone you can find on the market right now. You're unlikely to notice any issues, even with visually demanding games. 3. A Big and Bright Display Poco F7 display The Poco F7 features a 6.83-inch AMOLED screen with a 2772 x 1280-pixel resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+. It is slightly less sharp than the Poco F7 Ultra's 1440p resolution, but the difference is only visible when you're consciously looking for it. The screen is brighter than its predecessor, with support for 1,700 nits high brightness and 3,200 nits peak brightness for supported HDR content. Poco F7's big display is immersive for long gaming sessions, as well as doomscrolling and watching video content on Netflix and YouTube. 4. The Poco F7 Packs A Massive Battery The global variant of Poco F7 packs a 6,500mAh battery, whereas the Indian model houses a huge 7,550mAh silicon-carbon battery. I used the global version, and it lasts all day with ease. No matter what you do, it is highly likely to last an entire day. The Poco F7 supports 90W fast charging that can top up its 6,500mAh cell within 45 minutes. In my usage, it went from 30% to 90% within 30 minutes. It is easily an all-day phone with superfast charging capabilities. 5. Four Years of Android OS Updates Poco F7 in Black The Poco F7 runs Android 15-based HyperOS 2.0. My previous nitpicks and annoyances with the software remain, but it is a highly customizable phone and you can uninstall the pre-installed bloatware. I would take a $399 phone with uninstallable bloatware over a $500 phone with 'clean software,' despite not being a fan of HyperOS design. Poco's new phone offers several AI features like AI Notes, AI Interpreter, AI Image Enhancement, AI Image Expansion, etc., as well as Google Gemini and Circle to Search. You won't miss out on the 2025 AI feature set. Moreover, the company is promising four Android OS updates alongside six years of security patches. 6. An Okay Camera Setup The Poco F7 sports a dual rear camera setup with a 50MP Sony IMX882 primary camera and an 8MP ultrawide-angle sensor. On the front, you get a 20MP fixed-focus selfie shooter. The Poco F7 is not the phone for you if you shoot a lot of photos and videos. While the main camera can deliver good results, the ultrawide camera is average. You can always tweak the settings to get better results, but I wouldn't rely on it for my vacation photos. 7. Poco F7: Price and Availability Poco F7 The Poco F7 was launched on June 24 and will go on sale starting July 1. It is priced at $399 for the base 12GB/256GB variant and $449 for the 12GB/512GB model. You can buy the 256GB variant for as low as $339 during the initial sale. In India, the Poco F7 will be available for INR 31,999 ($372) for the 12GB/256GB model, and INR 33,999 ($395) for the Silver Edition with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. As for the U.K., it is priced at £389 ($530) and £429 ($584) for the 12GB/256GB and 12GB/512GB models, respectively. If you buy them before July 7, you can get them for £319 ($434) and £359 ($488), respectively.
