Imane Anys
Credit - Courtesy Imane Anys In the male-dominated world of gaming, Imane Anys—a.k.a. Pokimane—stands out. The 29-year-old Moroccan Canadian creator rose to fame playing titles like Fortnite, League of Legends, and Valorant on Twitch, where her audience of 9.4 million makes her the platform's most-followed female streamer and one of the top 20 most-followed overall. But Anys has long been thinking beyond the console. In addition to gameplay, she shares lifestyle content—including travel vlogs and day-in-the-life routines on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, where she's amassed nearly 20 million followers combined—and chats directly with viewers on Twitch during her streams. She also co-founded the creator collective OfflineTV in 2017, launched the streamer talent agency RTS in 2021, and has dipped a toe into acting, with a cameo in the action-comedy Free Guy and appearances in music videos for artists Bella Poarch and d4vd. Asmongold slams Pokimane over Amber Heard apology, calls it 'one of the most toxic things that women do'
(Image via @pokimanelol & @Asmongold/X) Twitch star Asmongold has once again stirred the pot—this time by calling out Pokimane's public apology regarding her past comments on Amber Heard. After the popular streamer apologized for her past jokes about Amber Heard during the infamous trial, Asmongold didn't hold back, and his comments have sparked just as much conversation as the apology itself. Pokimane's Apology: Too Late, Too Safe? It started when Pokimane tweeted 'believe victims' on July 2, 2025—a sentiment that aligns with many of her past stances. One user called her out, reminding her of the time she mocked Amber Heard during the Depp-Heard trial livestreams. — pokimanelol (@pokimanelol) Rather than deflect, Pokimane responded with an apology: 'I completely understand, I regret how I re-streamed the trial because any jokes are at the expense of how victims can be perceived :( I apologize for that + took down those videos a long time ago.' While the apology appeared genuine on the surface, not everyone was convinced. And Asmongold? He didn't just disagree—he dismantled it. Asmongold's Take: 'Patronizing' and 'Pathetic' Shortly after Pokimane's tweet, Asmongold addressed the apology during his stream, and minced no words. He called her comment 'stupid' and 'patronizing,' labeling it part of a broader issue where women, in his view, 'defend bad actions of other women just because they're women.' 'This is one of the most toxic things that women do,' he said. 'It's pathetic and embarrassing. It makes men more distrustful of women because they're not using logic—they're just defaulting to gender loyalty.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gentle Japanese hair growth method for men and women's scalp Hair's Rich Learn More Undo According to Asmongold, Pokimane's apology wasn't about accountability—it was about optics. And in trying to appear 'woke' or politically correct, she ended up being inauthentic and divisive. Authenticity vs. Image: The Bigger Problem? What Asmongold really seems to be calling out isn't just Pokimane, but a pattern. Influencers issuing ultra-safe, last-minute apologies that feel more like image management than real reflection. 'She always tries to have the most sanitized, politically correct opinion possible,' he added. 'This is just another example of that.' He questioned why someone would apologize so long after the fact, unless the goal was to appease criticism, not actually take ownership. Internet Reacts: Split Down the Middle As expected, the internet is divided. Some praised Asmongold for saying what many were thinking, calling out what they see as performative allyship. Others slammed him for generalizing and dragging gender into a personal apology. Pokimane hasn't responded to his comments—at least not yet. But one thing's clear: This wasn't just about an apology. It was about the uncomfortable grey areas of influencer accountability, the pressure to be constantly 'correct,' and the cost of choosing image over honesty. 'I shouldn't just say no to any collab like that': Pokimane addresses creator controversy and regrets
Image via: Getty In November 2023, Imane 'Pokimane' Anys, one of Twitch's most prominent content creators, joined their ranks when she announced her cookie brand, Myna Snacks. The reception was anything but sweet. Fans and critics alike couldn't believe the exorbitant pricing of the product $28 for a four-pack of cookies. On her first livestream after launch, Pokimane went on the offensive against her critics, quote-tweeting complaints with responses such as 'If you're a broke boy, just say so.' The backlash, especially from her fanbase, was as swift as it was vicious, with critics accusing Beyoncé of dumbing down her supporters. A Shift in Tone Two Years Later Fast forward to June 29, 2025, almost two years after the fact, Pokimane put out an ambitious and deeply personal 25 minute video called setting the record straight about your assumptions on her YouTube channel. In that video, for the first time, she spoke about how the Myna Snacks fallout had continued to affect her, how it made her question herself, and how emotionally draining it was. 'I feel like now that it's been two years, and I've been able to really think about it, think about the mistakes I made… I've moved from like, 'Oh my God, keep me away from those kinds of things,'' she admitted. From Regret to Reflection Although she would later say the whole thing was 'a little traumatizing,' Pokimane identified it as an important crash course in branding 101 (branding, timing, and communication). Instead of completely giving up on all future brand collaborations, today she has learned to be more discerning and intentional. 'I shouldn't just say no to any collab like that,' she explained. 'But I really should learn from the past and know when would be the right time to do it, and how to do it right.' The Internet Is Mad At Pokimane Again… Pokimane's comments, thankfully, reflect a move beyond purely defensive frustration into a more thoughtful introspection. In the aftermath, she seems much more receptive to future partnerships with a reemphasized attention to authenticity, timing, and audience alignment. The Myna Snacks saga is a cautionary tale in the sense that the expectations are so high for creators that decide to become entrepreneurs. Pokimane's story serves as a reminder that stone behaviors can quickly shatter glass ambitions, a balance she seems better equipped to navigate moving forward.
