Police investigating fatal crash in West Lothian arrest 20-year-old man
Police have arrested a 20-year-old man following a fatal crash in Bathgate. The incident happened around 11.50pm on Monday, 9 June, 2025, on the Boghead Roundabout and involved the drivers of a Volkswagen Polo and an HGV. Emergency services attended and a 17-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene. An 18-year-old female passenger was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. The 20-year-old man has been released pending further enquiries. The circumstances surrounding the incident have been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner. Teenager dies following crash involving car and lorry in West Lothian
A 17-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the Volkswagen Polo, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 20-year-old male driver of the car and an 18-year-old female passenger were taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with serious injuries. Emergency services were called to an incident at the Boghead Roundabout near Bathgate on Monday, 9 June at 11.50pm after a serious crash involving a Volkswagen Polo and an HGV. The road was closed as late as 6pm, however it had re-opened by 7pm on Tuesday. Police said that extensive enquiries were underway to understand the circumstances around the crash but is currently unknown if anyone has been injured. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Extensive enquiries are ongoing following a road crash between a Volkswagen Polo and an HGV, which took place at Boghead Roundabout, Bathgate, around 11.50pm on Monday, June 9. 'There is an ongoing police investigation into the crash. The circumstances surrounding the incident have been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.' Police Scotland have been contacted for further comment.
