Carrie Johnson admitted to hospital over 'severe dehydration'
Carrie Johnson - the wife of former prime minister Boris Johnson - has revealed she was admitted to hospital with severe dehydration, as she offered advice to other breastfeeding mothers in the hot weather. Mrs Johnson, 37, posted a picture of herself and her newborn daughter Poppy Eliza Josephine on Friday in a hospital bed. "Being hospitalised for two nights for severe dehydration was not on my postpartum bingo card," she captioned the Instagram post. Mrs Johnson urged other "breastfeeding mums" to make sure they eat and drink enough "in this heat", especially those who are "clusterfeeding". Poppy was born on 21 May, becoming the couple's fourth child after their son Frank, born in July 2023, daughter Romy, born in December 2021, and son Wilfred, born in April 2020. In a separate Instagram story, Mrs Johnson described an "honestly brutal week". "Mastitis (me), reflux (her), dehydration (me). What a pair we are!," she said. "But thank you for all the kind messages, especially all the brilliant advice on reflux. Really appreciate it and made me feel way less alone going thru (sic) it all. And as ever, thanks to our amazing NHS." The NHS recommends drinking plenty of fluids while breastfeeding - and avoiding caffeine and alcohol to stop their effects being passed on to the baby. Having a drink nearby when mothers stop to feed is advised, as is water, lower-fat milk, and low-sugar drinks. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued an amber heat health alert for the next four days. Although not a public weather warning, it advises health and social care organisations of possible dangers to their patients and facilities. Temperatures could reach 34C on Monday - with a 20% chance of beating the hottest June day on record of 35.6C from 1976. The likelihood of record-breaking temperatures could increase over the weekend as the day approaches.

Carrie Johnson shares behind-the-scenes glimpse of her fourth pregnancy
Carrie Johnson has shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the final stages of her pregnancy with her newly-born daughter. Boris Johnson's wife announced the birth of Poppy Eliza Josephine Johnson, her fourth child with the former prime minister, on Saturday. In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the 37-year-old shared photographs of herself weeks before giving birth, despite having admitted she feels 'awkward' about having her picture taken. The photos, shot in different parts of her house and garden, show Mrs Johnson playing with five-year-old son Wilf and three-year-old daughter Romy. Writing on Instagram, she said: 'I hate having my picture taken at the best of times. I feel massively self-conscious and incredibly awkward. 'I nearly cancelled it, as I also suffered with terrible sickness for the majority of this pregnancy, and so I really wasn't in the mood, but now I'm so glad that I did it. 'If you're pregnant and in the trenches right now – I feel you! As soon as you're holding your new baby, you quickly forget just how awful you felt during pregnancy. Mother Nature is clever like that!' The photos were taken by Romy Becker, a photographer and friend of Mrs Johnson. The first shows Mrs Johnson's daughter Romy, who was born while the couple were living in Downing St, kissing Mrs Johnson's baby bump. Another shows Mrs Johnson joyfully playing with Wilf while Romy watches, while a third black and white photo shows her sitting in her garden. The Johnsons, who married in May 2021, welcomed their third child, Frank, in 2023. After giving birth to Poppy last weekend, Mrs Johnson said she would be known as 'Pops' or 'Pop Tart'. She did not give any clue as to the inspiration for the newborn's three names, although her middle name Josephine could have been given in tribute to Mrs Johnson's mother, Josephine McAffee, a newspaper lawyer. Mrs Johnson is a former communications officer who worked for the Conservative party from 2009 to 2019. She acted as a media adviser for Conservative Cabinet ministers including Sajid Javid and John Whittingdale.
