Porsche Centre Oman signs a two-year partnership with OAA
MUSCAT: Porsche Centre Oman is investing in the future of motorsport in the Sultanate of Oman by entering into a multi-year partnership with the country's governing body of motorsport, the Oman Automobile Association (OAA), to help grow motorsports at the grass roots level. To be run under the banner of the 'Porsche Centre Oman Karting Championships Series', the commitment will cover the next two seasons of the championship. It will support motorsport in Oman and actively contribute to the development of future motor racing talent and karting in the Sultanate of Oman. 'We are proud to sponsor a project that aligns with our legacy of motorsport excellence,' said Mohamed A R Qassim, Director of Porsche Centre Oman. The championship series is distinct in that it will consist of classes to cater for both race license holders and leisure karting participants. Porsche Centre Oman will provide full branding, racing suits and financial support for licensed drivers and cash prizes to the podium winners. 'Supporting the next generation of drivers is key to Porsche Centre Oman's vision in the region and this partnership reflects our commitment to youth development and motorsport innovation in the Sultanate of Oman,' said Mohamed. The calendar season will also include a 24-hour endurance race along with other races scheduled to be taking place at the Muscat Speedway, starting with the first round of races in September. 'This new championship series for both licensed racers in Rotax Max and leisure karts marks a new era for karting in Oman,' said Sulaiman al Rawahi, Managing Director of the Oman Automobile Association (OAA). 'Partnering with Porsche Centre Oman allows us to elevate the level of competition and offer new opportunities for aspiring drivers across the country.' With the partnership running through until the third quarter of 2027, Porsche Centre Oman will provide financial prizes, and equipment such as branded race suits, while a new Instagram channel will also be launched to promote the upcoming series. Supporting youth sports and building engagement within the community has long been a cornerstone of Porsche Centre Oman's philosophy. The opportunity to support the burgeoning motorsport industry and empower future generations of Omani race drivers starting at grassroots levels made an alignment with the Oman Automobile Association a natural alliance. Dunne dominates Formula 2, Câmara leads Formula 3 and De Haan captures Porsche round
Robert De Haan captured double pole today for this weekend's races in the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East, being held in support of the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2025 at Bahrain International Circuit. De Haan continued his fine form this weekend and clocked a fastest lap of 2:03.990 during qualifying to take the leading grid spot for the first race later tonight. His second-best lap of 2:04.106 then earned him pole for race two. Janne Stiak will start alongside him on row one for the first race after setting a qualifying time of 2:04.364 today. De Haan is also the leading starter in the Pro class for both races. In the FIA Formula 2 Feature Race, Rodin Motorsport driver Alexander Dunne secured an impressive maiden victory. Starting from fourth on the grid, Dunne passed Leonardo Fornaroli on lap seven to take the lead and retained control for the remainder of the 32-lap contest. Luke Browning, racing for Hitech TGR, climbed the field on an alternate tyre strategy to finish second, while Fornaroli completed the podium in third for Invicta Racing. Josep María Martí made strong progress from 11th to finish fourth, followed by Victor Martins, Richard Verschoor, and Dino Beganovic. Arvid Lindblad surged from 16th to eighth, with Gabriele Minì and Joshua Duerksen rounding out the points in ninth and tenth, respectively. In the FIA Formula 3 Feature Race, Rafael Camara made it two wins from two, converting pole position into a dominant victory in the Sakhir Feature Race, ahead of Callum Voisin and Tim Tramnitz. Polesitter Camara had a slow start, allowing Voisin to get ahead into Turn 1, but on Lap 5, he re-took the position from his Rodin Motorsport rival. From there, the Scuderia Ferrari Academy driver pulled away, winning the race by over six seconds, while Voisin settled for second. Tramnitz charged through from P13 on the grid to finish third for MP Motorsport, a late move on ART Grand Prix driver Tuukka Taponen giving him his first podium of the year. Taponen was able to hold off the other Red Bull Academy junior in the field, Nikola Tsolov, across the line to claim P4, while the Campos Racing driver took fifth. Noah Stromsted continued his strong start to the season for Trident, the Mercedes junior finishing sixth ahead of MP's Alessandro Giusti, in his Williams-liveried car. Mari Boya came through from 20th on the grid to finish eighth for Campos, ahead of the third MP car driven by Bruno del Pino, while Christian Ho rounded out the top 10 for DAMS Lucas Oil. In the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East, Robert De Haan converted his double pole into double victories. He finished 5.7 seconds ahead of Janne Stiak in race two, with Angus Whiteside completing the podium in third. TDT | Manama Formula 1's star drivers and officials have begun arriving in the Kingdom ahead of this weekend's Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2025 at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC). Following an exciting race in Japan last Sunday, the F1 community had no time to rest as they made the long trip from the Far East to Bahrain ahead of the upcoming Sakhir spectacle, taking place Friday to Sunday at 'The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East'. zxdf A number of top drivers were seen touching down with team members today along with F1 and Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) officials at Bahrain International Airport. Among them were two-time former world champion Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin, Andrea Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes, Carlos Sainz and Alexander Albon of Williams, Yuki Tsunoda of Red Bull Racing, Esteban Ocon of Haas, and Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson of Racing Bulls, along with their team principal Laurent Mekies. They were received by members of BIC's Meet and Greet Team, who assisted them in their arrival formalities and with their transportation arrangements to their respective residences for the week. Porsche Carrera Cup to bring regional flavour to F1 weekend
The Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2025 is the ultimate showcase of top-class international motorsport, and the region will be well-represented on the biggest stage with the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East (PCCME). The Kingdom of Bahrain's highly anticipated F1 weekend takes place 11 to 13 April at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir. The PCCME will be part of a stellar support race programme that will be ensuring non-stop thrills on track at 'The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East'. Proven path The PCCME is a leading onemake championship that is well-established as the proven path for regional drivers to accelerate their careers in motor racing. Launched in 2009, it is in its 16th season. Over the years, the PCCME has gained recognition as one of the most professional and successful championships in the Middle East, and in 2023 it was upgraded to the PCCME, making it one of 12 Carrera Cups in the world. Participants compete in identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Type 992) cars, ensuring a level playing field where skill and strategy are paramount. The PCCME will be making its second appearance at BIC in its 2024/2025 campaign. This round in support of F1 will be the fifth and penultimate meeting on the calendar, and it follows the season-opener held in Sakhir last November. Since then, the championship has made stops in Lusail in Qatar, and in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the UAE. Following the upcoming meeting in Bahrain, the PCCME will bring the curtain down on this season with the finale in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Championship leader Heading into F1 weekend at BIC, Janne Stiak from Germany is the overall championship leader with 195 points. Briton James Wallis follows on 148 points, while countryman Angus Whiteside is third with 124 points. All three competitors are racing in the PCCME's Pro category. Saudi Arabia's Saud Al Saud currently leads the ProAm class with 82 points, while Mike Mim from Bulgaria tops the Masters category with 49 points. The PCCME's events at F1 weekend will include two free practice sessions on the Friday at BIC on 11 April. Qualifying and the first race will then be held on Saturday, 12 April, followed by the second race on yesterday, 13 April. This year's F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix marks the fourth round of the 2025 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. It celebrates the 75th anniversary of both Formula 1 and Bahrain's national carrier and grand prix title sponsor Gulf Air. Furthermore, fans can now enjoy all that is on offer at the Beyon Money BIC Fan Village, open daily at Block 338 in Adliya until 9 April. Entrance to the village is free of charge, and it is a celebration of motorsport as it brings the spirit of the F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix to the public, in the heart of Bahrain's capital. The entertainment includes daily live performances from a mix of bands and DJs, motorsport activations such as racing simulators and a giant Scalextric, an F1 show car, reaction games, Beyon Money activations, a photo booth, a craft village, roaming family entertainment, street artists, various kids' attractions, and so much more. The experience is open every day from 6pm to 12am on weekdays and from 1pm to 12am on weekends.
