Father dies of grief hours after seeing 16-year-old son dead in motorbike accident

Photo: China Press MALAYSIA: A tragic accident in the early hours of Sunday has left a family shattered after a 16-year-old boy was killed in a motorcycle crash and his father died shortly after, reportedly from grief. According to China Press, the incident happened around 12:30 am on July 6 at Utama Garden, Port Dickson. The teenager had set out alone on his motorcycle to refuel at a petrol station near their home. Just metres away from his destination, he is believed to have lost control of the motorcycle, which overturned in front of the station. The impact caused severe head injuries, and he died at the scene. Family members said the boy's father, 43, rushed to the site as soon as he was notified. Witnesses described the man as distraught when he arrived and saw his son's body. After returning home to break the news to relatives, he suddenly turned pale, complained of feeling unwell and collapsed unconscious. His 44-year-old wife, Leah Amour E. Basaca, who is originally from the Philippines, recounted the harrowing moments that followed. 'After he fell to the ground, I tried to perform CPR immediately while waiting for help,' she told China Press, 'We called for an ambulance right away, but it only arrived about half an hour later.' Despite continued resuscitation efforts in the ambulance and on arrival at the hospital, he could not be revived. He was pronounced dead later that morning. The father, who was the sole breadwinner of the family, had been managing high blood pressure but otherwise had no known chronic illnesses. His sudden passing has left his wife and their two daughters, aged 11 and 8, devastated. China Press reported that both father and son were cremated together and that Leah, who lost her husband and son at the same time, kept crying while her young daughters wept as they thanked visitors at the mourning hall. The man's elderly father told China Press that the deaths have caught the whole family off guard. He also said that his son had applied for Malaysian citizenship for his wife, but there has been no update so far. In Seremban, company director claims trial to allegedly using fake Sirim stickers on 80 retreaded tyres

SEREMBAN, July 10 — A company and its director were charged today at the Sessions Court here for using fake Malaysian Institute of Standards and Industrial Research (Sirim) logo stickers on 80 retreaded tyres last February. Cerico Retread Sdn Bhd, represented by its director, Khoo Chai Kee, 65, (he), as the Person Under Summons (OKS), pleaded not guilty to the charge read before Judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam. According to the charge, Khoo, as the director, and Cerico Retread Sdn Bhd, were accused of making false representations by using Sirim MS 224:2005 logo stickers on 80 units of retreaded tyres of various brands and sizes for supply without Sirim's approval. The offence was allegedly committed at the company's premises in Taman Perindustrian Bukit Palong Lukut, Pekan Lukut, Port Dickson, at 4pm on February 13. The charge against Khoo was filed under Section 21 (b) of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011, which provides for a maximum fine of RM200,000 or imprisonment not exceeding three years or both, while for a second or subsequent offence, a maximum fine of RM500,000 or five years imprisonment or both, can be imposed, if convicted. The company was charged under Section 21 (a) of the same act, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM500,000 and for a second and subsequent offence, a maximum fine of RM1 million. The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Muhammad Hakiim Izani, while the accused was represented by lawyers Raswanti Nagaindren and Suwaathee Nakkeeran. Earlier, Muhammad Hakiim requested that Khoo be granted bail of RM20,000, with an additional condition that his passport be surrendered to the court until the trial concludes, while Raswanti requested that the bail amount be reduced due to the accused's age. The court then set bail at RM8,000 with one surety and ordered the passport of the accused be surrendered to the court. The court also set August 28 as the date for mention and submission of documents. — Bernama

PD Bersatu defends proposed leadership change after backlash

Port Dickson Bersatu's motion proposed that Hamzah Zainudin (left) take over as the party's 'main leader', with party president Muhyiddin Yassin becoming an adviser and mentor instead. PETALING JAYA : Port Dickson Bersatu has doubled down on its motion for a change in the party leadership, after a backlash from multiple party colleagues, including a vice-chief of the division. Port Dickson Bersatu deputy chief Akkil Aizat Othman, who tabled the motion at the division's annual general meeting (AGM) over the weekend, said he would not withdraw the proposal. 'I will not withdraw the motion. The division will issue a statement today to explain the contents of the motion,' he told FMT. The division's vice-chief, Shuhazlan Ali, claimed that the motion brought to the AGM was Akkil's personal view and did not reflect the wishes of the grassroots in Port Dickson. Akkil fired back, accusing Shuhazlan of not attending division meetings, including its AGM over the weekend. 'He only issued a press statement without reading the actual motion and which branch tabled it,' he said, denying that Port Dickson Bersatu was divided because of the motion. Port Dickson Bersatu's motion proposed that Hamzah Zainudin take over as the party's 'main leader', with Muhyiddin Yassin becoming an adviser and mentor instead. It also proposed that Bersatu vice-president Radzi Jidin handle the party's administrative matters, currently managed by secretary-general Azmin Ali. The motion was unanimously approved. Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz however played it down, saying Muhyiddin still had the support of the majority of Bersatu's grassroots to remain as party president.
