Chicago teen charged with animal cruelty for killing duck, chicken in Portage Park

Chicago police have charged a 15-year-old boy with felony animal cruelty for killing a duck and a chicken at a home in the city. Police said the teen broke into a yard in the 5200-block of West Newport in the city's Portage Park neighborhood and killed two animals on May 22. CPD confirmed the animals killed were a chicken and a duck. The Chicago Police Department Animal Crimes Team arrested the teenager on Tuesday. He is charged with two felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and one misdemeanor count of criminal trespass. Man shot while confronting would-be car thief in Portage Park

A man was shot while confronting someone attempting to break into his car on the city's Northwest Side. It happened Saturday around 9:45 p.m. in the 5800 block of West Cornelia Avenue in the Portage Park neighborhood. Chicago police said the 57-year-old victim saw an unknown man trying to gain entry into his car. As he approached on foot, the would-be thief pulled out a gun and fired shots at the victim. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the left leg and was taken to Loyola Hospital in fair condition. No one is in custody. Area 5 detectives are investigating.
