Where did Jeremiah Fears land in USA TODAY Sports final NBA Mock Draft?

The 2025 NBA Draft commences on Wednesday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and everything is trending toward Sooners point guard Jeremiah Fears going inside the top 10 of the draft. Fears, who played just one season for Oklahoma, was the catalyst to OU's return to the NCAA Tournament. It was Oklahoma's first trip to March Madness since 2020-2021. Fears led the Sooners in points, assists, and steals in his true freshman season and, in the process, catapulted both the Sooners to their best season under Porter Moser and Fears into the draft lottery. Advertisement In USA TODAY Sports final NBA mock draft, the experts have Fears going No. 6 overall to the Washington Wizards. Solid start to his freshman season; quick on the dribble; has strength going to the rim and can finish; operates well in the pick-and-roll as a scorer and passer; needs to improve his 3-point shot but potential is there. Fears scored a season-high 31 points and added five assists and four rebounds in a win against ranked Missouri. Fears had a strong SEC tournament, producing 29 points, six rebounds and five steals plus five turnovers in a victory against Georgia and 28 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals (just one turnover) in a loss to Kentucky. He generated 20 points, five rebounds and four assists in a NCAA Tournament first-round loss to UConn. - USA TODAY Sports Fears was a fast riser in draft circles throughout the 2024-2025 season. He's a dynamic guard that's able to get into the paint consistently and is a good finisher at the rim. Fears has great speed and is a good distributor of the basketball. He's going to make a really good NBA player and has a really high ceiling as he continues to develop his game. The last time the Oklahoma Sooners had a player taken in the first round of the NBA Draft was Trae Young in 2018. Blake Griffin in 2009 and Buddy Hield in 2016 are the only other first-round selections since Mookie Blaylock went No. 12 to the New Jersey Nets back in 1989. New Orleans Pelicans select Jeremiah Fears No. 7 overall in 2025 NBA Draft

NORMAN — OU men's basketball star Jeremiah Fears was selected by the New Orleans Pelicans in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft on Wednesday in Brooklyn. Fears was the No. 7 overall pick. Fears is the first draft selection of the Porter Moser era and the first Sooners player drafted in the top 10 since Trae Young went No. 5 overall in 2018. Advertisement "It means the world to me being able to go out where and show the world what Oklahoma basketball can bring and continuing to take steps in the right direction," Fears said on ESPN's NBA Draft broadcast. Fears heads to the Pelicans after an historic freshman campaign in Norman. He played in all 34 games (started each of last 31) and averaged team highs of 17.1 points, 4.1 assists and 1.6 steals per contest. Fears also shot 43.4% from the field and ranked second in the SEC in free throw makes. New Orleans finished 21-61 last season. This post will be updated. Wisconsin basketball announces exhibition contest vs an SEC team to tip off 2025-26 season

The Wisconsin basketball program announced a newly scheduled exhibition contest against the Oklahoma Sooners on Thursday. The contest will be played on Oct. 24 at Milwaukee's Fiserv Forum. Staged in the home of the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks, the Badgers will square off against the Sooners prior to the beginning of the 2025-26 regular season. Advertisement "This is a great opportunity for our program to take on a Power Four team in our backyard in an exhibition setting," Wisconsin coach Greg Gard said to "It will be a terrific first test for us in late October. We know we have a lot of Badger fans and alums in Milwaukee and we're excited for them to get an early look at our team." The news arrives a day after Wisconsin announced a November non-conference contest against potential No. 1 overall NBA draft pick A.J. Dybantsa and the BYU Cougars at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Aside from a future NCAA Tournament appearance, the Badgers are now set to play in a pair of NBA arenas this fall. Coached by Porter Moser, the Sooners went 20-14 during the 2024-25 season. They secured a No. 9 seed in the NCAA Tournament. With star freshman and future NBA draftee Jeremiah Fears at the helm, Oklahoma fell 67-59 to defending champion UConn in the tournament's first round. The test against the Sooners will allow Wisconsin fans to witness a first glimpse at a revamped roster for the 2025-26 season. With star wing John Tonje, veteran center Steven Crowl, guard Max Klesmit and bench contributors Carter Gilmore and Kamari McGee all gone to graduation, Greg Gard retooled his platoon through the transfer portal. Advertisement Former San Diego State guard Nick Boyd, Virginia wing Andrew Rhode and Portland forward Austin Rapp will likely replace Tonje, Crowl and Klesmit in the starting lineup this fall. Star sophomore guard John Blackwell, who shared his plans to return to Madison for his junior campaign on Wednesday, will also lead the starting five with rising junior forward Nolan Winter. Fans may also get a feel for how Gard utilizes projected bench contributors Braeden Carrington, Aleksas Bieliauskas, Jack Robison, Zach Kinziger, Hayden Jones and Will Garlock in rotations. The Badgers only went seven or eight players deep in critical games last season, so the dispersion of minutes on the bench will be something to monitor against the Sooners. Still in search of its first NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen appearance in nearly a decade, UW will aim to replicate its final 27-10 record from a season ago. The quest officially commences with an exhibition test against the Sooners in Fiserv Forum. Oklahoma and Gonzaga set to meet in 2025-26 basketball season

Oklahoma Sooners basketball coach Porter Moser must like the look of his 2025-26 team quite a bit. On Wednesday, OU announced it would play Big East power Marquette in a Black Friday game next season. Then, shortly after that announcement, college basketball writer Jon Rothstein reported the Sooners would also play national powerhouse Gonzaga this season in Spokane, Washington. Advertisement According to Rothstein, the game will not be played at Gonzaga's home court but at the McCarthy Athletic Center in Washington's second-biggest city. Therefore, it should still function as a home game for the Bulldogs. The game is the fourth announced nonconference game for the Sooners for 2025-2026. Previously, games were scheduled against Oklahoma State for December 13 in Oklahoma City and former Big Eight conference rival Nebraska in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on November 16. Oklahoma and Gonzaga are not unfamiliar opponents. They first met back in 2007-08 when Blake Griffin scored 27 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the Sooners' victory. Gonzaga has won each of the three meetings since, including, most recently, in the 2021 NCAA Tournament when Austin Reaves' 27 points were not enough to overcome the Zags in an 87-71 loss. The only time OU has played Gonzaga in Spokane was on New Year's Eve 2010. Gonzaga won, 83-69.
