Napa man charged with murder after body found near Napa River
Napa County prosecutors charged a man with murder in connection with the discovery of a body on the banks of the Napa River, authorities said Tuesday. The body of 47-year-old Noel Batres of Napa was found on the afternoon of July 3, according to the Napa County District Attorney's Office. Prosecutors said that 36-year-old Ramiro Ochoa Mendoza of Napa killed Batres and left his body under the Third Street Bridge on the banks of the Napa River at Soscol Avenue. Mendoza appeared in court Tuesday afternoon for an arraignment hearing and was held without bail at the Napa County Department of Corrections, prosecutors said. The defendant also faces multiple criminal charges from earlier this year, authorities said. On April 27, Mendoza was arrested for violating a restraining order, violating his Post-Release Community Supervision and resisting arrest, officials said. Two days later, the county superior court raised concerns about his mental health competency to stand trial and appointed doctors to evaluate him, who found him to be not competent, prosecutors said. Mendoza was then granted a mental health diversion hearing. Before Mendoza's latest arrest, he failed to appear in court for his mental health diversion review and fell out of compliance with the diversion program, prosecutors said.

Thief had ‘enough copper wire to rewire small building': deputies
(KRON) — Deputies said a 31-year-old man faces several charges after he was caught with a bunch of stolen copper wire and piping in his vehicle following a traffic stop, said the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office. Serial shoplifter robbed same store 16 straight times: SFPD SCCSO said the driver of a Chevy Suburban was pulled over for its license plates not matching the car. The arresting deputy soon discovered the plates were stolen from a Jeep in Oakland, and the vehicle was reported stolen in San Jose. 'Inside the SUV was enough copper wire and piping to rewire a small building,' said the sheriff's office. 'The driver, 31-year-old Andrew Reyes, was already on Post-Release Community Supervision (PRCS) and gave a questionable explanation. To make matters worse, he tried to smuggle drugs into the Santa Clara County Main Jail!' The sheriff's office did not disclose the time and location of the incident. Reyes' list of charges includes auto theft, possession of stolen property, copper theft, drug paraphernalia possession, attempting to bring contraband into a jail, and violating PRCS terms, confirmed SCCSO. The sheriff's office said the recovered Chevy Suburban has been reunited with its owner. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
