Hitachi Energy shares jump nearly 3% after bagging 765 kV transformer order from Power Grid Corp

By Aman Shukla Published on June 27, 2025, 10:01 IST Hitachi Energy India shares jumped nearly 3% in morning trade after the company secured a key order from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID). As of 10 AM, the shares were trading 2.88% higher at Rs 20,000.00. The deal involves the supply of 30 ultra-high-voltage 765-kilovolt (kV), 500 megavolt-ampere (MVA) single-phase transformers. These units will play a vital role in strengthening India's growing electricity network. As the country pushes forward with its energy transition, demand for transformers has been rising steadily—reportedly growing at 15% annually. This order highlights a shift toward long-term national infrastructure planning, aimed at building a robust, future-ready grid. The transformers, once deployed, will help transmit power to meet the average electricity needs of 30 million households. They're also expected to cut transmission losses, reduce costs, and boost grid reliability. The equipment will be manufactured at Hitachi Energy's Maneja facility in Vadodara, aligning with the government's 'Make in India' initiative. In a separate global development, Hitachi Energy recently completed testing the world's first 765-kV/400-kV, 250 MVA transformer using natural ester oil—a biodegradable, fire-resistant alternative. This innovation underlines the company's efforts in advancing safer and more sustainable grid technology. Hitachi Energy wins order from Power Grid to supply 30 units of 765 kV, 500 MVA single-phase transformers

Hitachi Energy India Limited has secured a significant order from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) to supply 30 units of 765-kilovolt (kV), 500 megavolt-ampere (MVA) single-phase transformers, marking a major step in India's push toward a more sustainable and robust energy future. As India accelerates its energy transition—driven by increased renewable energy integration and widespread electrification—the demand for power transformers has grown rapidly, rising at a rate of 15% per year over the past two years. This order reflects the industry's shift from short-term project planning to long-term infrastructure programs aimed at strengthening the national grid. The 765 kV UHVAC transformers play a critical role in enhancing grid efficiency, reliability, and security. Once operational, these transformers will support power transmission equivalent to the average electricity consumption of 30 million Indian households, while also reducing transmission losses, lowering operational costs, and improving access to affordable electricity. Manufactured at Hitachi Energy India's facility in Maneja, Vadodara (Gujarat), the transformers will align with POWERGRID's transmission expansion timelines and contribute to Make in India efforts. This local production underscores the company's commitment to supporting India's self-reliant energy manufacturing goals. In a parallel global achievement, Hitachi Energy recently completed successful testing of the world's first 765-kV/400-kV, 250 MVA natural ester-filled transformer. The use of biodegradable ester oil enhances fire safety and sustainability, setting new benchmarks in green power grid solutions. PGCIL commissions Kathalguri-Namsai line ahead of schedule in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: In a significant step toward strengthening the power network in Arunachal Pradesh, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited ( PGCIL ) has completed the 220 kV double circuit Kathalguri-Namsai transmission system five months before its scheduled deadline. The line was energised late on Saturday night, a PGCIL statement said here on Monday. The project, carried out under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) model, enhances the reliability of electricity supply across the region. Stretching 71 km, the new line connects the Assam gas-based power plant operated by NEEPCO at Kathalguri to a modern 220 kV gas-insulated substation (GIS) at Namsai in Arunachal Pradesh. A bay extension at the Kathalguri end has also been completed to improve system operations. The infrastructure upgrade allows smoother power flow from the national grid into Arunachal Pradesh, while also improving voltage stability and providing critical system backup, essential for a dependable year-round electricity supply. It is expected to significantly support the region's development initiatives, the statement said. Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein praised the accomplishment. "Kudos to PGCIL for their exemplary execution and unwavering commitment to the Northeast. This project is a cornerstone in our journey toward robust and reliable energy infrastructure," he said in a social media post.
