1 2 Prayagraj: The Mankameshwar Temple administration has prohibited photography and videography on the temple premises during the holy month of Shrawan starting July 11. Shrawan, considered the most auspicious month for worshipping Lord Shiv, draws lakhs of devotees to temples across Uttar Pradesh. Among them, Mankameshwar Temple, located on the banks of Yamuna, becomes a major spiritual hub. Crowds swell particularly on Mondays and Pradosh days, with queues forming as early as 4am and lasting late into the night. Even on regular days, the temple witnesses a heavy influx of devotees, especially those performing Rudrabhishek and other special rituals. Given the anticipated rush, chief priest Acharya Swami Shridharanand Brahmachari, said that the focus during this sacred period should be on devotion, not display. "Worship and darshan should be done with faith and humility, not for social media likes", he said. The month of Shrawan concludes on Aug 9 with the full moon and holds immense spiritual significance. According to astrologer Pandit Diwakar Tripathi from the Utthan Jyotish Sansthan, the presence of Venus in its own zodiac sign Taurus on the first day of Shrawan will result in the formation of the powerful Malavya Rajyoga. This planetary alignment is believed to enhance the benefits of spiritual practices during this month. This year, Shrawan will include four auspicious Mondays — on July 14, 21, 28 and August 4 — each considered especially favourable for offering prayers to Lord Shiv. Devotees are encouraged to perform Jalabhishek, Rudrabhishek, and chant the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra throughout the month. Ancient traditions also highlight the importance of offering items like bhasma (sacred ash), bilva leaves, dhatura, bhang, shami leaves, sandalwood, fruits and flowers to Lord Shiv. While sandalwood is believed to please the deity, adorning Goddess Parvati with beauty items is considered auspicious.
