Remained steady in a market driven by economic shifts, changing gold prices, says Titan Company

In a market driven by economic shifts, changing gold prices and evolving customer preferences, Titan Company remained steady and crossed a revenue of ₹50,000 crore during financial year 2024-25, said the Tata Group firm, which manufactures fashion accessories, jewellery, watches and eyewear. The year witnessed an increase in demand for daily-wear, lightweight gold pieces and bridal collections, even as diamond jewellery performance remained mixed, said Titan Company in its annual report released on Friday. The fiscal 2024-25 saw over 3 million customers purchasing jewellery from the brand. Despite a challenging start to the year due to a subdued wedding season and external factors like elections, the business picked up momentum following a reduction in customs duty in July 2024. The latter half of the year witnessed strong festive and wedding demand, said the company. Titan Company further said it responded to gold price fluctuations with proactive bullion management, and this included intelligent use of Gold on Lease and stringent controls on inventory without compromising on the product variety of availability. The fashion accessory player also said the introduction of 18 karat collections and investment-focused offerings helped the company address both sentiment and affordability, particularly in price-sensitive segments. Titan Company's gold exchange programme continued to be a strong driver of footfall, it said, adding, during the year, more than 8 lakh customers exchanged over 18 tonne of gold. Savings-led products through the launch of the Rivaah Golden Advantage plan and Golden Harvest offered customers a dependable way to plan their jewellery purchases in an environment of volatile gold prices, claimed the company. Commenting on the company's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives, C. K. Venkataraman, Managing Director, said Through the Pragati programme, which seeks to help Titan play out its responsibilities to the Planet as well as the People, the company would strengthen its thrust towards Net zero carbon, reducing fresh water consumption, Afforestation, Partner responsibility, DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion,) Community responsibility, Ethics and governance.

Planning authorities asked to inform ORERA about housing project approvals

1 2 Bhubaneswar: The housing and urban development department has asked all the planning authorities, including Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, to mandatorily inform Odisha Real Estate Regulatory Authority (ORERA) about the plan approvals they give to different housing and plotting projects. This will enable ORERA to conduct necessary follow-ups on the developers' activities. The move came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while chairing a Pragati review meeting, asked the state govts to strengthen ORERA and ensure proper execution of its orders in the interest of homebuyers. According to sources, the ORERA chairperson recently wrote to the chief secretary, mentioning an eight-point agenda to strengthen ORERA and this includes the intimation of plan approval by the planning authority to ensure necessary follow-ups with the developers by ORERA. Following the recommendation, the chief secretary held a high-level meeting with the officials of the housing department recently to discuss the matter. After the deliberation, the state issued the direction to the department for intimation of the plan approval to the authority. During the meeting, it was also decided that the new website of ORERA should be linked to the SUJOG portal of the govt for real-time monitoring and updates of the plan approval status. The govt uses the SUJOG portal for providing online approval to different projects. "The authority has made some recommendations to strengthen the operation of ORERA. Out of the given recommendations, discussion on two important matters was taken up and the directions were passed on to the urban development department accordingly," a senior ORERA official said. ORERA recently revoked the registration certificate of a prominent housing project in the city after finding that the approach road to the project used by the developer actually belonged to the railways. Sources said that confusion occurred during the approval stage.

11 years of Modi govt: Infra revolution boosting 'ease of living', says PM

The Union government and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled state governments on Wednesday continued to highlight the achievements of the 11 years of the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) dispensation, with the Prime Minister posting on social media details of the 'infrastructure revolution' during this period. "It's been 11 years of infrastructure revolution with outstanding infrastructure being added that has enhanced India's growth trajectory," Modi said on X. From railways to highways, ports to airports, India's rapidly expanding infrastructure network is boosting 'Ease of Living' and enhancing prosperity, he said. In another post, Modi said: 'India's push for next-gen infrastructure is powered by sustainability and long-term vision.' It is laying the foundations of a self-reliant India, he said. In a document prepared by the newly launched Press Information Bureau (PIB) Research, the government also pointed to the efficacy of the Pragati (pro-active governance and timely implementation) platform, which was put in place 10 years ago, in fast-tracking of infrastructure projects. It said the most recent meeting of Pragati, which the PM chairs, took place on May 29. This was its 47th meeting since its inception in March 2015. The government said since its launch, over 363 projects have been reviewed under the Pragati initiative, which enables the PM to directly engage with the secretaries of the government and chief secretaries of states via videoconferencing. The government also highlighted the external challenges that it has faced — whether in its response to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism with the Uri surgical strike in 2016, the Balakot air strike of 2019, and Operation Sindoor in 2025 — and how it has dealt with challenges of internal security, such as the threat of Naxalism. In Raipur, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the PM's target of uprooting Naxalism by March next year is being fulfilled. In Chhattisgarh, 425 Maoists have been neutralised, 1,443 arrested, 1,388 others have surrendered in the last one-and-a-half years, Sai said. 'Our security forces have broken the backbone of Maoism by neutralising top Naxalites like Basavaraju and Sudhakar,' he said. According to government data, left wing extremism (LWE) districts have reduced from over 100 in 2014 to a mere 18 now. The Opposition Congress on Wednesday said 'anti-people policies' have been the hallmark of the 11 years of the government at the Centre. Congress general secretary and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel pointed to a recent report to accuse the Uttar Pradesh government of concealing the number of people who died during the Kumbh stampede earlier this year, as the numbers were more than what was claimed. He said the number of deaths during the Covid pandemic, recently released data has shown, was much more than what the government had claimed. On govt's agenda: Delimitation, women quota implementation before 2029 LS polls Top government sources on Wednesday said the intent was to complete the process of delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies, as also reserving a third of the Lok Sabha and legislative Assembly seats for women, by the time the 2029 Lok Sabha elections are announced. The delimitation of seats and women's reservation will have to be based on the Census-2027 data, and a delimitation commission will have to be set up for the purpose. The Centre, on June 4, announced that the Census will be completed by March 1, 2027, and include enumeration of castes. However, there has been skepticism whether the data would be available in time for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. The provisional data for the 2011 Census was released on March 31, 2011, 25 days after its population enumeration phase ended, while the final data was released two years later on April 30, 2013. However, the government is hopeful of completing the process of delimitation by the 2029 polls since the Census-2027 will be the first digital Census, where enumerators will enter data into apps that it can process in real-time, facilitating quicker publication of datasets.
