Bawankule Dubs Kadu's Protest As Hypocritical
Nagpur: Asserting that state govt has already addressed most of the demands by Bacchu Kadu following extensive ministerial-level discussions, Maharashtra revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule described the Prahar Janshakti Party leader's statewide protest plan as hypocritical and politically motivated. Speaking to media in Nagpur on a day when Kadu launched his 'Saatbara kora' (7/12 extracts be made blank / farm loan waiver) padyatra from Papal village in Amravati, Bawankule said, "We discussed each of the demand with him and his team for four-and-a-half hours in the Vidhan Bhavan. Six ministers attended that meeting and gave written assurances. So, this protest now seems two-faced." Bawankule, who is also guardian minister for Nagpur and Amravati, said the govt is actively monitoring rainfall and crop conditions. He indicated that there was no alarming situation, noting that rains were sufficient for kharif crops. "Every cabinet meeting begins with updates from the water resources department and crop damage, if any," he added. Bawankule also criticised Uddhav Thackeray's alliance with Congress and recent overtures to Raj Thackeray. He said, "Uddhav Thackeray has consistently disrespected Congress. In 2019, he (Uddhav Thackeray) arrogantly took seats meant for the Congress and weakened their prospects. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo His non-performance as chief minister cost Congress politically." When asked if Congress might exit Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) following the Thackeray cousins' show of unity, Bawankule responded, "That's for the Congress to decide. But they must decide how much humiliation they are willing to tolerate." Commenting on Union minister Nitin Gadkari's remarks about wealth concentration, Bawankule said the Centre and state are committed to ensuring welfare schemes reach the economically weak. "PM Modi's housing scheme must reach every home. Our job is to plug the gaps in delivery," he added.

Govt Intervenes in Onion Row; Calls for Direct Market Purchase from Farmers
Nagpur: Amid rising discontent among onion growers over declining prices and irregular procurement practices, Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule intervened to address the crisis. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The senior BJP leader held urgent discussions with Union ministers Pralhad Joshi and Piyush Goyal after former MLA and Prahar Janshakti Party leader Bacchu Kadu initiated a hunger strike in Amravati, demanding a Rs24 base price and the elimination of middlemen control. Following the protest, Bawankule convened a high-level meeting at Vidhan Bhavan this week, attended by ministers Jaykumar Rawal (Marketing), Manikrao Kokate (Agriculture), and senior officials from various departments. The discussions focused on overhauling the procurement system to ensure farmers receive fair compensation for their produce. "The primary objective is to prevent farmers from distress-selling. We are working on a mechanism in consultation with the Centre to ensure transparent, efficient procurement directly from the producers," Bawankule stated, emphasizing that onion farmers must not depend on commission agents. Marketing minister Rawal argued that the current system had been dominated by a few vested interests operating intermediary procurement centres. "Procurement and exports are unrelated. The system must be corrected. Farmers must get the benefit, not middlemen," he asserted, proposing the closure of all non-transparent procurement centres. Agriculture minister Kokate supported this view, stating, "All govt procurement should be routed through APMCs. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now It's the only way to guarantee traceability, fair pricing, and systematic procurement." Bacchu Kadu, who ended his fast following the state's assurance, reiterated that central agencies like the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation (NCCF) and NAFED should buy onions directly from markets or farmers, not from agents. "A base price of Rs24 per kg should be fixed immediately. Onion procurement from outside the APMC system must stop," he demanded. In the last procurement cycle, delays and poor storage conditions caused significant spoilage, with thousands of tonnes of onions rotting in godowns. Farmer groups have warned of a repeat if corrective steps are not implemented immediately.

Protesters disrupt Dy CM Ajit Pawar's speech
PROTESTERS SUPPORTING Bachchu Kadu's hunger strike disrupted Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's speech in Pune on Saturday. Pawar was in Pune for the inauguration of Pune Model School and model primary health centre as well as for the Excellent Teacher Award distribution ceremony. As soon as he began his speech, a group of protesters interrupted him and pressed their demands. Pawar asked the police to let the protesters speak after the police began dragging them out. Prahar Janshakti Party founder Bachchu Kadu has been on an indefinite hunger strike over demands relating to loan waiver for farmers and disability rights issues. Soon after the incident at Pawar's event, Kadu called off his hunger strike on the seventh day after getting assurances from the state government. Responding to the protestors, Pawar said, 'Yesterday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis sent Amravati Guardian Minister Chandrashekar Bawankule as a representative of the state government to have a discussion with Kadu. Bawankule himself called up Fadnavis and had Kadu speak with him. The CM assured Kadu that a committee has been formed, of which Kadu will also be a part, which will look into his demands. The committee will submit its report before the state government, and accordingly what ever will be possible will be done in the Cabinet.' Not satisfied by the response, the protestors continued shouting their demands at the event on Saturday. Pawar then ordered the police personnel to move the protestors. Kadu Ends Hunger Strike After State Govt Assurance
Nagpur/Amravati: Prahar Janshakti Party (PJP) president Bachchu Kadu on Saturday ended his week-long hunger strike at Gurukunj Mozari in Amravati after receiving a written assurance from the Maharashtra govt regarding his key demands. Industries Minister Uday Samant handed Kadu an official letter from revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, confirming the state's commitment to address the issues in a time-bound manner. Kadu, who was on hunger strike since Sunday last, was demanding the implementation of 17 key demands, most prominently a blanket farm loan waiver, issuance of fresh agricultural loans ahead of the kharif season, and an increase in the monthly honorarium to persons with disabilities (divyangs). According to the letter from Bawankule, the govt agreed to constitute a high-powered committee within 15 days to finalise the mechanism for the farm loan waiver. A formal decision on the waiver will follow the committee's report. It also states that the govt will hold a separate meeting to decide on stopping the forcible recovery of pending farm loans and facilitating the disbursal of new crop loans. Regarding the hike in the monthly honorarium for divyangs, the letter notes that a budgetary provision for this will be included in the supplementary demands scheduled for the monsoon session of the legislature beginning June 30. For the remaining demands, the govt assured further meetings with concerned ministers and the chief minister. K adu ended his agitation after recieving the letter, breaking his fast by accepting juice from Samant. Later, both leaders paid tribute to Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj at Mozari. MLA Amol Mitkari and senior leader Kamaltai Gawai were also present. Kadu also spoke with CM Devendra Fadnavis on the phone. Samant expressed gratitude to Kadu for responding positively to the state's appeal. "The govt has taken his demands seriously. His health deteriorated over the past few days, and we are relieved that he has ended his fast," he said. Kadu, while thanking supporters, warned that if the promises made are not implemented, he along with supporters will march into Mumbai's Mantralaya on Oct 2. "This is only a pause. If the govt does not act, we will return with stronger resolve," he said. The protest, which drew wide political attention and backing from opposition parties including the Congress, was aimed at pressing for unconditional farm loan waivers and urgent relief measures for affected communities. Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar earlier expressed solidarity with Kadu, urging the govt to act instead of issuing fresh assurances. "If the govt is serious, it must act, not delay further," Wadettiwar said. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Bachchu Kadu ends fast over farm loan waiver; supporters create ruckus at Ajit Pawar's event
1 2 3 Pune: Hours before Prahar Janshakti Party president Bachchu Kadu called off his six-day hunger strike in Amravati district demanding a farm loan waiver, his supporters disrupted deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar 's speech at the Ganesh Kala Krida Manch auditorium in Pune on Saturday. Protesters went near the stage where school education minister Dada Bhuse was also present and raised slogans. The NCP chief, in an attempt to pacify them, said state govt has decided to form a committee to study Kadu's demand. "Kadu will also be on the panel that will prepare a report based on which state cabinet will make a decision," Pawar said at an event organised by the education department. When the supporters refused to disperse, the deputy CM ordered police to remove them from the auditorium. Still undaunted, they tried to stage a sit-in on the Manch premises following which police detained them. "Mayahuti promised a loan waiver and other schemes for the farmers during the assembly election campaign. However, after forming govt, they forgot these promises. Though Kadu had been on a hunger strike for nearly a week, govt did not bother to enquire about his deteriorating health. That is why we decided to raise slogans in front of Pawar, just to attract govt's attention towards these issues," one of the protesters said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo When asked about the ruckus, Kadu told the media in Amravati that his deteriorating health agitated his supporters. Govt was not ready to utter a word on a loan waiver and started discussing the issue only after I began the strike." Former MLA Kadu went on an indefinite hunger strike on June 8 over loan waiver among other issues affecting farmers. Earlier on Saturday, industries minister Uday Samant met him at the protest site after which he ended the fast. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here .
