Confusion prevails over next State Police Chief as LDF govt mulls options beyond UPSC list
Former Director General of Prosecution Asaf Ali termed the move 'foolhardy,' stressing that the state must adhere to the directives laid down by the Supreme Court. 'Nothing is above the Supreme Court verdict which has given proper directions in the Prakash v. Union of India. It clearly states that the state government will go with the three names shortlisted by the UPSC. UPSC selection body chooses the top ranks with the length of service, very good record and range of experience for heading the department. Nobody can violate it and move forward." he added. For the states that have in-charge DGPs, the tenure is two years. And also, why would any government look at other states when already a Supreme Court verdict is clear. It will not stand if legally challenged. For example, in Sen Kumar's case, the state government was not able to violate the law. As in the case of Kerala Police Act, it has been diluted for convenience. In a special circumstance like if UPSC list is late, if other states are choosing in-charge DGP, that should not be the norm. There is a Supreme Court verdict and nothing can't be done above that,' he said.

Prakash Belawadi claims someone defecated in his caravan while shooting big-banner Kannada film: ‘Scared to name them'
Actor Prakash Belawadi, who has acted in Kannada and Hindi films for most of his career, recently called out a well-known banner in the Kannada film industry without naming them. In an interview with Just Curious India, he admitted candidly that he's 'scared' of them and that he faced retaliation from them for not reducing his remuneration once. (Also Read: From Narsimha to Kalki: Hombale Films unveils mythological animation franchise with Mahavatar Cinematic Universe) Prakash Belawadi called out producers in the Kannada film industry for 'uncivilised' behaviour. Prakash prefaced his statement by calling the film industry 'crude' in general and stating that while not everyone in Sandalwood is like that 'many' fit the bill. He also claimed that he is treated much better when working in other film industries where he's 'pampered'. He said, 'I acted in a movie under a big banner. I won't tell the name because I'm scared of them. I'm scared not in the sense if they'll give me a role or not. If they give me a role, I'll never work with the banner, even if they offer ₹ 10 lakh per day. Because I wouldn't bend down my rate, but the director wanted me to, they did not pay me the last chunk of money. On the last day of shoot, they sent people to my vanity van. Four of them ate, threw meat everywhere, emptied the water and shat. It was very hot and I had to sit outside because it was so stinky.' Prakash again clarified that not everyone in the Kannada film industry was that 'extreme', pointing the finger at those who fund movies from other states. 'For instance, there's no contract in a Kannada film, really backwards and uncivilised. If you're a civilised person, your word should be enough. There was a time when Kannada was like that because it's a civilised culture. Most of the producers (who do this) aren't Kannadigas. If you work with the Rajkumar family, that's different; they're very cultured.' About Prakash Belawadi Prakash hails from a family of theatre artists in Bengaluru. He has also worked as a theatre artist, journalist and activist. After acting as a child actor in the 1970s, he debuted with the 2003 English film Stumble, which he also directed. Apart from Kannada and Hindi, he has also acted in other languages. He is known for his roles in films like Madras Cafe, Airlift, Sanju, Saaho and more in Hindi. He was most recently seen in Fateh and Thandel.

BJP issues show-cause notice to UP MLA over attack on Vande Bharat passenger
The BJP on Monday issued a show-cause notice to party MLA Rajeev Singh Parichha in connection with an attack on a passenger allegedly by the legislator's associates over a seat dispute aboard the Vande Bharat Express in Jhansi district and directed him to submit an explanation within seven days. Parichha is the MLA from the Babina constituency in Jhansi. If a timely and satisfactory response is not received it will be compelled to take the 'strictest disciplinary action' against him, the party said. Videos of the incident have surfaced on social media. The notice, issued by BJP's Uttar Pradesh general secretary Govind Narayan Shukla, said information about the MLA's conduct and actions on the train had come to light through media and social media reports. The MLA's behaviour has adversely impacted the party's image and amounts to indiscipline, he added. The incident took place on June 19 while the MLA was travelling to Jhansi with his wife and son on the Bhopal-bound Vande Bharat Express. The matter came to light the next day after photos and videos of a man bleeding from the nose went viral on social media. The injured passenger was later identified as Raj Prakash, who was on his way to Bhopal. While the MLA has lodged a complaint with the police, Raj Prakash is yet to take any legal action. MLA Parichha has alleged that two unidentified passengers were causing a nuisance by sitting with their legs stretched out, blocking the passage for others. When he asked them to behave, they allegedly misbehaved with him and used abusive language, he claimed. The MLA further said the two passengers again misbehaved with him after suspecting that he had reported the matter to the railway authorities. He also claimed that when the train reached the Jhansi railway station, the two called their associates, who then misbehaved with the people who had come to receive him at the station. During their preliminary inquiry, the Government Railway Police (GRP) found that two of the MLA's seats were adjacent, while the third was located at a distance. The MLA is believed to have requested Raj Prakash to swap his seat so that his family could sit together. When Prakash refused, the MLA approached the ticket examiner to request three seats together, but the examiner expressed his inability to make any changes. On the MLA's second request, Prakash allegedly got into a heated argument with him. The police said when the train arrived at the Jhansi railway station, the MLA's associates — who were present to receive him — allegedly assaulted Raj Prakash, leaving him injured. As the matter escalated, a police team was sent to Bhopal but was unable to locate Prakash. The team, however, met GRP officials in Bhopal and collected CCTV footage from inside the train and the station platform. According to the GRP, after the train reached the Rani Kamlapati railway station in Bhopal on June 20, Prakash met officials of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the GRP but chose not to lodge a formal complaint. The Uttar Pradesh Police said they are coordinating with their counterparts in Bhopal. CCTV footage from the Rani Kamlapati railway station shows Raj Prakash getting off the train. However, footage from the CCTV cameras inside the Vande Bharat Express did not clearly capture any assault, the police claimed. 'While the visuals suggest some commotion, no act of assault is distinctly visible,' an official said. When contacted, GRP (Jhansi) Deputy Superintendent of Police Sohrab Alam said they are investigating the case based on the MLA's complaint and are in the process of collecting evidence, including electronic records, before taking any further action. Raj Prakash, however, has not filed any complaint so far, he added.

Dansaf seizes 10kg ganja in Kallambalam; 1 arrested
T'puram: A major consignment of ganja smuggled on a two-wheeler was intercepted and seized by District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (Dansaf) near Kallambalam on Sunday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The accused Arun Prakash, 42, is a native of Thannikuzhi in Balaramapuram. Prakash was caught red-handed transporting over 10kg of ganja concealed in two large travel bags on his two-wheeler. He was en route to Thiruvananthapuram from Andhra Pradesh when Dansaf officials nabbed him near Thattupalam area of Kallambalam. The operation was the culmination of days of surveillance. Acting on a tip-off, Dansaf team tracked Prakash's vehicle and executed a high-risk stop to detain him. Police sources confirmed that Prakash is a habitual offender, previously serving four and a half years in Visakhapatnam central jail for a case. After completing his sentence in Andhra Pradesh, he was again arrested in Kerala for a similar offence and spent 60 days in jail before securing bail. This fresh attempt at smuggling comes shortly after his release. The latest arrest was made under the ongoing 'Operation D-Hunt', a district-wide crackdown on drug trafficking, led by rural district police chief Sudarshan. Authorities suspect a larger interstate smuggling network may be involved and are currently interrogating Prakash for more details. Further investigations are underway to trace the source and possible recipients of the seized contraband. The accused was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
