Farmers seek realignment of circular railway project to protect fertile lands
He said the alignment should be diverted from fertile farmland to nearby dry land, 2-3 km way. 'If there's a practical way to avoid damage to agricultural land, why not consider it? We request officials to make field visits. They may not be fully aware of the ground reality because decisions are often made using satellite maps,' he said. He pointed to the intersection of the circular railway project and Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project at Vaddarahalli. 'It will affect residential life with trains running in all directions causing noise pollution and other disruptions,' he said. Reddy noted that only 5-10% of the locality consists of fertile farmland. 'The remaining includes dry areas, Nilgiri plantations and others, which can be used for the project,' he said. Prashanth Kumar, another local farmer, said, 'There are already very few farmers and farmlands, and in that little land, why construct a railway track? I request that the alignment be made at least 100 metres away from my farmland where there is dry land and government-owned land. With the compensation money, we can't get another farmland anywhere,' he said

3 ‘drunk' men pose as Delhi cops, rob bike to experience thrill; arrested
Three men staged a heist in the national capital on Thursday by posing as Delhi Police personnel to allegedly seek a thrill. The police said the trio took away a security guard's bike near Aerocity, claiming that he was driving rashly. The three accused, Garvit Sharma, 25, Aniket Singh, and Prashanth Kumar, were arrested in different parts of Delhi on Friday. The victim, Amarpal Singh, 47, an Etah native and a security guard with GMR RAXA at Worldmark II in Aerocity, made a PCR call around 7.30 pm on Thursday. 'The complainant stated on June 26, 2025, around 7.10 pm, while he was on his way to Aerocity riding his Splendor, he was stopped near the Mahipalpur underpass by three individuals on another motorcycle. These individuals falsely claimed to be police officers and accused him of rash driving,' Usha Rangnani, Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP), Indira Gandhi International, said. One of the accused reportedly snatched the key to Amarpal Singh's Splendor bike and hurled abuses at him when he asked the three to show some ID. Aniket Singh then slapped Amarpal Singh as Prashanth Kumar rode away on his bike. The other two, Garvit Sharma and Aniket Singh, followed Prashanth Kumar on the black bike that they arrived on. 'During the course of the investigation, all available CCTV cameras at and around the scene of the incident were meticulously examined. Three specialised teams were constituted under the leadership of Inspector Sumit, Inspector Satish, and Inspector Avdesh, and an analysis of approximately 250 to 300 CCTV cameras spread across the possible routes of the accused was done,' Rangnani said. The police said that CCTV footage revealed the registration number of the bike on which the robbers came. The bike was found to be registered in the name of a man named Siddharth, a resident of Shakarpur. Siddharth, during the investigation, revealed that he lent his bike about a year ago to his friend, Garvit Sharma. The police raided Sharma's house, but found that he was missing. Based on intelligence, Sharma was finally tracked at his hideout in Palam. Thereafter, Aniket Singh was arrested in Kishangarh, while Prashanth Kumar was nabbed in Dashrath Puri. 'Garvit and Prashant travelled to Kishangarh on Garvit's motorcycle on June 26 (Thursday). There, they called Aniket, and the three friends decided to consume alcohol together. As per their plan, they purchased a bottle of liquor from a nearby shop and consumed it in a park. While under the influence of alcohol, Prashant, reportedly intoxicated, expressed a desire to do something 'thrilling'. Acting on this impulse, they conspired to rob a motorcycle by impersonating police officers,' Rangnani said.

Karnataka to geo-tag visiting olive ridley turtles
BENGALURU: Karnataka will be the second Indian state after Maharashtra to geo-tag olive ridley turtles that visit the state's coast annually. These geo-tags will not just have the identification number given by the State Government for others to report, but also track the movement of the turtles. Elaborating, Haliyal Deputy Conservator of Forests Prashanth Kumar, who is also doing his PhD on this topic, said that when a turtle visits the Karnataka coast to lay eggs, a Precision Time Protection (PTP) tag will be clipped onto its back. Their nestings are found in Karwar, Honnavar, Kundapur, Udupi, and Mangaluru in Karnataka. The olive ridleys also visit Tamil Nadu, Goa, Maharashtra, and Odisha to lay eggs from December to May. Each state will maintain a record of the geo-tagged turtles that visit their coast to lay eggs, and the same will be shared with the state that originally tagged the turtle and also other states to keep track of the turtles. To ensure this, the forest department is working in coordination with the Wildlife Institute of India and the Karnataka Biodiversity Board. The need for geo-tagging rose due to multiple reasons. While some coasts are seeing a decline in the arrivals of the migratory species for nesting due to human interventions, others are seeing an increase.
