Large Crack On Ganga Bridge Linking Kaushambi-Pratapgarh Sparks Accident Fears
Locals say leaders and MPs who use the route daily ignored the cracks seen months ago. No repairs done yet, and rising rainwater now adds to the bridge's growing risk
A significant crack has developed in the Lahedari Ganga Bridge, which connects Kaushambi and Pratapgarh districts in Uttar Pradesh, posing a serious risk for commuters. Constructed around 10 years ago, this bridge is a crucial route linking Lucknow to Pratapgarh. Despite the heavy traffic of state leaders, ministers, MLAs, and other VIPs, the crack has gone unnoticed by responsible authorities.
The Pratapgarh Bridge Corporation, which maintains the bridge, has yet to inspect the damage, raising concerns about public safety. This negligence comes in the wake of a recent bridge collapse in Vadodara, Gujarat, which resulted in a major accident.
The Lahedari Ganga Bridge is an essential route for devotees visiting Kada Dham, also known as Maa Sheetla Dham especially during the busy month of Shravan. Additionally, the reopening of schools has further increased the traffic, with thousands of vehicles crossing the bridge daily.
Akash Kesarwani mentioned that the bridge was repaired two months ago, yet cracks have reappeared, exposing iron rods and posing a danger to commuters.
Local villagers expressed frustration that state leaders, MLAs, and MPs who use this route regularly have failed to notice the bridge's deteriorating condition. Despite the cracks appearing 2 to 3 months ago, no repairs have been undertaken. The rising water levels during the rainy season add to the bridge's vulnerability, heightening the risk.
Despite numerous complaints from local residents, no official action has been taken. The recent accident in Gujarat should have served as a wake-up call, but officials remain unresponsive, seemingly waiting for a major disaster to occur.
