Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to the complaint filed by a 25-year-old woman from Udgir, Maharashtra, she connected with Prateek on Instagram two years ago. Subsequently, he invited her to Bengaluru with marriage promises, where he allegedly raped her repeatedly at a hotel under duress. Prateek's family visited her residence and agreed to the marriage, the complainant said. An engagement ceremony took place in December 2023, with the wedding planned for May 2024. However, Prateek delayed the wedding, citing Lok Sabha elections and the monsoon. Prateek took her to Latur and Shirdi in Maharashtra, where he continued to threaten and sexually assault her, the complaint alleged. When her family approached Prateek's household to discuss the marriage, MLA Prabhu refused the alliance, she said. The case was registered under IPC sections 376(2)(N), 366, 324 and 506. At a media interaction on Monday, the woman appeared with her face covered and refuted Prabhu's allegations about her involvement with another boy. She said neither she nor her family had any political backing, and no one was orchestrating their actions. Conspiracy to defame my family: Prabhu Meanwhile, Prabhu claimed this was a conspiracy to defame his family, specifically accusing former Bidar BJP MP Bhagwanth Khuba's team. Regarding the woman's complaint to the women's commission, Prabhu alleged she maintained inappropriate communication with another person through messages and video calls. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Prabhu stated he advised the woman since the engagement and discussed the matter with her brother-in-law. He said the marriage was cancelled following consultations with Banjara community leaders. Prabhu said he has a 30-year unblemished political career and arranged numerous marriages. A counter FIR was lodged by one of his brothers against eight members of the girl's family at Hokarn police station in Aurad taluk on Sunday. The accused individuals allegedly assaulted Prabhu and vandalised the doors of his residence in Aurad taluk. Bidar SP Pradeep Gunti said the investigation is ongoing.

Dubai Marina fire: Some tenants struggle to find new homes one month after blaze
It has been a month since a fire broke out in a residential tower in Dubai Marina, affecting over 3,820 residents from 764 apartments. While the flames were quickly brought under control and emergency teams cleared the area, many residents are still struggling to find a place to call home. The fire, which broke out on the night of June 13, caused extensive damage to several floors of the high-rise. While no fatalities or major injuries were reported, dozens of apartments were left uninhabitable. For many residents, the ordeal didn't end with the fire, it marked the beginning of a difficult house-hunting journey. Prateek, an Indian expat, had moved into the tower just a few months before the incident. 'We were living on the 29th floor,' he said. 'But now, my family has returned to India, and I have moved in with a friend.' Stay up to date with the latest news. Follow KT on WhatsApp Channels. Prateek was paying Dh94,000 annually for a two-bedroom apartment in the building. After the fire, he began searching for similar accommodations nearby, but even with an increased budget, he is unable to get one. 'I have been looking around Marina and nearby areas. Even at Dh105,000, I can't find a proper two-bedroom flat. Everything is either too small or far too expensive,' he said. For some residents, the fire not only left them without a home but also brought unexpected expenses. From buying clothes and electronics to replacing documents and daily essentials, the financial burden has been steep. 'Had to start over in a new area' Ali Reza, an Iranian chef who had been living in the tower for three years, has now moved into a shared apartment in Barsha Heights. In the initial days after the fire, he spent a few nights in a hotel and then with friends, carrying only the few items he managed to grab during the evacuation. 'The building was close to my workplace. I could take essentials, my passport, clothes, and some work items,' he said. 'But I'm thankful to friends who helped me during the move. One of them even gave me a spare mattress and utensils to use until I could get back on my feet,' he added. 'I had to get my own space' Lizy, a Filipina expat, initially stayed at a friend's house after the fire. But after a few weeks of sharing a room, she decided it was time to find her own space. 'I found a studio nearby. It's not far from work, and it was all I could afford,' she said. Lizy managed to retrieve most of her belongings, including documents and clothes from the damaged building, but she's still waiting for her advance rent and security deposit to be refunded. 'That money could've helped me cover my new rent and set up utilities,' she said. 'I have followed up a few times, but there's still no clarity. It's been tough because everything happened so suddenly, but I'm trying to adjust.' The watchman informed Khaleej Times that residents cannot access their belongings unless the flat owner initiates the process. 'The owner of the flat has to send an email to the building management requesting access,' he said. 'Once approved, the management will give a specific time to enter and retrieve items.' He added that those with furniture and large electronics need to file a move-out request in advance. 'If someone has furniture, they have to submit a move-out request, and the management will assist in taking everything out safely.'

Influencer Patrick aka Prateek Kaushik's friend calls Lafda Memer for truce: 'Everyone does this' excuse gets shut down, memer demands public apology
The influencer world just got another shockwave. As Prateek Kaushik who goes by the username patrickposts_here, continues to face heat over alleged inappropriate chats with a teen girl, meme page Lafda Memer (lafdamemerr) has now leaked a call recording with Prateek's best friend in an 11-minute YouTube video. And it is messy. 'Almost everyone does this nowadays,' says Prateek's friend defending him In the call, Prateek's friend appears to downplay the controversy, saying, 'Almost everyone is like this these days.' But Lafda Memer swiftly calls him out, agreeing that many men do behave badly online, but making it very clear that messaging a minor is a whole different territory. 'Yes, every guy flirts these days, but not with a girl who is under 18,' Lafda responded. Apology talks hit a wall Prateek's friend was seemingly on damage control, requesting Lafda to let the issue slide. He suggested that going public with the screenshots was not the right move. But Lafda firmly stood his ground, saying he tried to reach out to Prateek twice for a conversation before going public, and was completely ignored. He then challenged Prateek to go live with him and clarify things if he had nothing to hide, adding that this won't go away unless Prateek apologises to his fans publicly. Lafda Memer demands apology and Rs 25k Things took a murkier turn when Lafda brought up an earlier incident involving another girl. He claimed that at a party, a girl was falsely accused of stealing Prateek's AirPods after she accidentally touched them. Allegedly, she was asked to cough up Rs 25,000 to avoid trouble. When Prateek's friend asked about this story, Lafda confirmed it and said the Rs 25K needs to be paid back as part of the truce, otherwise there is no closure. As the call ends, Prateek's friend says he will 'see what he can do,' but no apology or resolution has been issued as of now. Meanwhile, Lafda Memer has made his stance clear, until there's an apology or compensation, this saga is far from over. And the internet? It's watching, screenshotting, and waiting for round three!
