Broncos roster: OL Marques Cox (No. 70) looks to fill gaps behind starters
Broncos Wire's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at rookie offensive lineman Marques Cox, No. 70.
Before the Broncos: Cox (6-5, 305 pounds) played six years in college at left tackle, spending time at Northern Illinois (2019-22) and Kentucky (2023-24). After redshirting his freshman year, Cox started 10 of 12 games played on offense and special teams. In the 2020-shortened season, Cox started all six games. In 2021, Cox made All-MAC fourth team, starting all 14 games, and during that season, NIU ranked second in the nation with only 10 sacks allowed.
In 2022, before transferring to Kentucky, Cox started four games before suffering a season-ending injury in a game against Kentucky. Cox was named to Phil Steele's 2021 All-MAC team.
After transferring to the Wildcats, Cox started all 25 games, earning two Reese's Senior Bowl Watch List recognitions, as well as being named Preseason third-team All-SEC from Athlon and Preseason Fourth Team All-SEC by Phil Steele.
Broncos tenure: Cox was signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 NFL draft. He will make his Bronco debut during preseason next month.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Longshot. It remains to be seen if Cox will play primarily as a tackle or as a guard in the NFL. Denver might ask him to serve as a backup swing guard/tackle. Regardless of where he lines up, Cox will face tough competition to make the active roster as a rookie. He might be competing for a practice squad spot this summer.
