Indore: Sanitation workers from Indore accompanied Madhya Pradesh cabinet minister Kailash Vijayvargiya and mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava to New Delhi to receive the prestigious Presidential Award. This recognition celebrates Indore's remarkable achievement of being declared India's cleanest city for an unprecedented eighth consecutive year. The city's 'safai karmis' (sanitation workers) are brimming with pride and joy over this milestone. Among the IMC's delegation, which included the minister, mayor, commissioner, and other senior officials, were Sarita Khare, a Safaimitra from Ward 50; Ramkrishna Kalyane, a Drainage Safaimitra from Ward 16; and Mahesh Sirosiya, a helper of a door-to-door garbage collection vehicle (MP09 GH5673). Bursting with joy, Sarita Khare expressed, "It's a matter of immense pride to be recognised by the President of India for simply performing our duty of ensuring proper cleanliness." Ramkrishna Kalyane echoed the sentiment, stating, "We are honoured to be a member of IMC's Safai Army, now poised to make Indore a Super Swachh City." Ujjain: Ujjain secured first position in Super Swachh League in the category of cities with population of three to 10 lakh. Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) chairman Kalavati Yadav, Mayor Mukesh Tatwal and commissioner Ashish Pathak received the award from President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi. "This achievement was made possible through public involvement. The achievement not only demonstrates efficiency of city's sanitation system but also highlights cooperation and awareness of its citizens," Tatwal said. Pathak was of the view that Ujjain effectively adopted standard operating procedure according to the cleanliness mission standards, leading to the recognition. UMC strengthened door-to-door waste collection and transportation system in the city. It organized waste management and maintained continuous monitoring of waste segregation, recycling, and proper disposal. Indore: Dewas achieved a significant milestone in Swachh Survekshan 2024, securing the first position in the category of cities with a population between 50,000 and 3 lakhs. This prestigious award was presented by President Draupadi Murmu at a ceremony held today, Thursday, in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Madhya Pradesh urban administration minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, Dewas mayor Geeta Agrawal, and municipal commissioner Rajnish Kasera jointly received the award from the President. This marks the first time Dewas was honoured with a Presidential Award. The city also received a Five-Star Rating for its cleanliness efforts and earned its second consecutive Water Plus Certificate. For the past three years, Dewas consistently ranked 25th among over 4,000 cities nationwide in Swachh Survekshan 2021, 2022, and 2023. While the municipal corporation previously claimed a Five-Star rating in past surveys, it consistently received a Three-Star rating from 2021 to 2023. The corporation first received a Three-Star rating in 2019 but missed it in the 2020 survey. Swachh Survekshan 2024-25: UP scores big; Lucknow stands 3rd in Clean City Awards

UTTAR PRADESH has recorded success in the ninth edition of 'Swachh Survekshan' 2024-25. The state has secured top positions and awards across various categories for its initiatives in urban cleanliness and sanitation, a government statement said on Thursday. President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards during a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, on Thursday. State Cabinet Minister A(K Sharma received the honours on behalf of Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow secured the third position in the Clean City Award for cities with a population exceeding 10 lakh. It became the first city in the state to achieve a 7-star Garbage Free City (GFC) rating, a historic milestone. For this achievement, Lucknow was conferred the Presidential Award, the statement said. Prayagraj was adjudged the Cleanest Ganga City, appreciated for its consistent efforts in maintaining cleanliness around the holy river, especially during the Mahakumbh. Agra, Gorakhpur, and Maha Kumbh 2025 were recognised with the Award of Excellence. Gorakhpur was ranked third in the 'Safai Mitra Surakshit Sheher' category and fourth among cities with a population between 3 to 10 lakh. The city also got a 5-star GFC rating. Six cities from Uttar Pradesh now rank among the top 20 cleanest big cities in India with above 5-star ratings. Agra has been recognised as the Emerging Clean City of Uttar Pradesh, securing the 32nd rank at the national level. The city has got a 5-star Garbage Free City (GFC) rating. Moradabad has achieved 10th position in the 3–10 lakh population category. In the medium city category, Nagar Palika Parishad Bijnor and Shamshabad ranked 29th and 95th, respectively. Uttar Pradesh has also been given the Swachh Maha Kumbh 2025 Award for sanitation initiatives planned for the Maha Kumbh. Urban Development Minister A K Sharma stated that Uttar Pradesh's performance in Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 reflects the government's commitment to create clean, healthy, and livable urban spaces. Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, Amrit Abhijat said that the state's top rankings, GFC certifications, and advancements in ODF++ and Water+ categories are a result of systematic monitoring, rigorous training, and proactive supervision.

Air Marshal S. Sivakumar VSM took charge as Air Officer-in-Charge Administration (AOA) at Indian Air Force Headquarters in New Delhi on Tuesday, an official said. The Air Marshal was commissioned in the Administration branch of the IAF in June 1990. He holds an MBA in HRM from Pondicherry University and an MPhil degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from Osmania University. In a career spanning over 35 years, the Air Marshal has held a number of important Command and Staff appointments which include Senior Air Traffic Control Officer of a forward base, represented IAF in the UN Mission at Congo, Air Force Examiner and Chief Administrative Officer of a premier Flying Station. He has also worked as Command Works Officer and Command Personnel Staff Officer at two Operational Commands, Air Officer Commanding of an Equipment Depot, Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Air Force Works) at Air Headquarters and Senior Officer-in-Charge Administration of an Operational Command. Before assuming the present appointment, the Air Marshal was Director General (Administration) at Air HQ. He is a recipient of the Vishisht Seva Medal. Earlier on June 1, Air Marshal Jasvir Singh Mann took over as Senior Air Staff Officer of Western Air Command. The Air Marshal, an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, was commissioned as a fighter pilot in the IAF on December 16, 1989. He has flown over 3,000 hours primarily on various types of fighter aircraft. He is a Pilot Attack Instructor and in his operational career, he has commanded a fighter squadron, been Chief Operations Officer of a forward base and Air Officer Commanding of a premium fighter base. On May 2, Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari PVSM AVSM VM took charge as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff. Prior to assuming charge as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, he was the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief at South Western Air Command. In recognition of his distinguished service, the Air Marshal was awarded the Presidential Award of Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 2025, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2022, and Vayu Sena Medal in 2008.
