PM: Pondok schools to keep religious core, add AI and TVET components to meet modern needs
PUTRAJAYA, July 21 — The Ministry of Finance (Treasury) has been instructed to explore ways to enhance the capabilities of pondok institutions, including upgrading existing facilities and improving the curriculum to better align with current needs. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the move is crucial to ensure students are not only grounded in religious knowledge but also equipped to face contemporary challenges, Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, gave his assurance that the traditional religious syllabus will remain intact. However, it will be complemented with elements such as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), technology, and artificial intelligence (AI). 'We will not interfere with the existing syllabus of pondok institutions, but we will incorporate new components such as TVET and AI. 'It is not about changing the system, but to complement and enhance it with elements that reflect current demands,' he said during a gathering with staff of the Prime Minister's Department here today. Another Malaysian Haj pilgrim dies in Mecca
KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — A Malaysian pilgrim, Ahmad Kerya, 70, died at King Abdul Aziz Hospital, Makkah, at 1.22pm yesterday (local time). Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, in a statement on Facebook today, said Ahmad died of septicemic shock secondary to pneumonia with multi-organ failure. He said the deceased, from Kodiang, Kedah, went on the Haj pilgrimage with his wife. 'On behalf of the Malaysian Government and the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), I express my condolences to the family of the deceased. 'May Allah forgive his sins, accept all his good deeds and place him among the righteous,' said Mohd Na'im. — Bernama

Measuring 183m in length and six metres in height, the art installation named 'Mural Batik Madani' was a joint effort between Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Berjaya Group Bhd. The mural was designed by artist Arif Rafhan Othman, better known as Superdoofus, and painted by a team of professionals. DBKL, in a statement, said works began on Feb 11 and were completed on March 24, a month earlier than scheduled. 'This mural is aimed at conveying a message of inclusivity and unity among Malaysia's diverse communities. 'It also aims to highlight our cultural heritage through the use of batik,' it said. Guest of honour Minister in the Prime Minister Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa was accompanied by Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Berjaya founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan, Batu MP P. Prabakaran and Federal Territories deputy director-general (Planning and Development) Datuk Ramlee Yatim.

Labuan-Brunei Tourism Ties To Be Reactivated Ahead Of Borneo Flora Festival
LABUAN, May 13 (Bernama) -- Tourism ties between Labuan and Brunei are set to be revitalised following high-level discussions aimed at boosting regional travel and strengthening cross-border cooperation, ahead of the Borneo Flora Festival (BFF) 2025. A delegation from the Federal Territories led by Minister in the Prime Minister Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa held courtesy visits in Brunei today with the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Datuk Seri Setia Dr Abdul Manaf Metussin, and the Minister of Development Datuk Seri Setia Awang Mohd Juanda Abdul Rashid. Dr Zaliha said central to the discussion was the re-establishment of tourism connectivity between Labuan and Brunei, with a shared commitment to promote sustainable travel routes and reposition Labuan as a strategic gateway for Borneo tourism.
