Trailer for Freddie Highmore's New Espionage Thriller Series THE ASSASSIN — GeekTyrant
Prime Video UK has dropped the first trailer for The Assassin , a six-episode thriller that blends family drama with sharp-edged espionage. Set on a quiet Greek island, the series stars Keeley Hawes as Julie, a retired assassin trying to keep a low profile until her estranged son Edward, played by The Good Doctor 's Freddie Highmore, suddenly shows up. He's looking for answers about his father, and maybe even about who his mother really is. As expected, the peaceful coastal backdrop doesn't stay calm for long. The synopsis reads: 'A retired assassin named Julie (Keeley Hawes) living in Greece is reunited with her estranged son (co-starring Freddie Highmore) who is seeking answers about his father and his mother's past. However, both find themselves in danger when the assassin's past catches up with her.' Created by Harry and Jack Williams ( The Missing , Baptiste ) with additional writing from Krissie Ducker and direction from Lisa Mulcahy and Daniel Nettheim, the show promises a mix of emotional stakes, lethal tension, only with some fun light humor. The supporting cast features Gina Gershon, Jack Davenport, Alan Dale, and Devon Terrell. While there's no U.S. release date yet, The Assassin premieres July 25th, 2025, on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland.

The Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco lands role in new 'gripping' thriller
Kaley Cuoco is set to star in an edge-of-your-seat, suspenseful thriller for Prime Video, the streaming service has announced. Fans of The Big Bang Theory are buzzing with excitement as it's been revealed that Kaley Cuoco, famed for her role as Penny, is diving into a thrilling new venture titled Vanished. The upcoming series boasts an impressive cast including Peaky Blinders' heartthrob Sam Claflin. Set to premiere on Prime Video next year, Vanished will be available in the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Joining the stellar lineup are Matthias Schweighöfer from Germany, Simon Abkarian of Casino Royale fame, and Dar Zuzovsky, known for Corduroy. In Vanished, Kaley Cuoco steps into the shoes of Alice, whose Parisian romantic escape spirals into chaos when her boyfriend Tom, played by Claflin, vanishes without a trace. Kaley Cuoco is to star in a new mystery thriller for Prime Video. The 39-year-old actress - who is perhaps best known for her role as Penny on the hit sitcom 'The Big Bang Theory' - will soon be seen starring alongside Sam Claflin of 'Peaky Blinders' fame in the upcoming series 'Vanished' on Amazon's streaming platform. Tushar Jindal, Head of Content Acquisitions, Prime Video UK said: 'With Kaley and Sam leading an incredible cast, this gripping thriller will keep viewers guessing at every turn. We're delighted to bring Vanished to Prime Video in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada and we can't wait for audiences to be swept up in the mystery!" When a couple's trip to Paris takes a dark turn with the sudden disappearance of her boyfriend Tom (Claflin) aboard a train to the south of France, Alice (Cuoco) is plunged into a web of intrigue and danger, uncovering secrets about the man she thought she knew. Production is underway in Marseille, France for the four-part series and it is expected that it will debut on the streaming platform in the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand at some point in 2026. The new role will act as something of a comeback for Kaley, who has not been seen since 'Based On A True Story' concluded its two-season run towards the end of last year. Prior to that, Kaley - who has 18-month-old daughter Matilda with her fiancé Tom Pelphrey - starred in the film 'Role Play' alongside David Oyelowo. But the star - who shot to fame as a teenager with her role on the long-running sitcom '8 Simple Rules' - reverently admitted that she would be happy to return to her signature role as Penny on 'The Big Bang Theory', more than five years after it came to an end. She told PEOPLE: "I would absolutely reprise that role. '100%. I love that character, and I always will.'

Prime Video U.K. Director Chris Bird Stepping Down After 14 Years
Chris Bird, the director of Prime Video UK, has decided to step down from the role and leave the company after more than 14 years. The news was announced in an internal memo sent to staff by Brigette Ricou-Bellan, the general manager of Prime Video EU, who noted that Bird had been with Amazon since joining as part of its acquisition of early streaming service LoveFilm in 2010 before taking over leadership of the U.K. team in 2021. 'Working with our content and studios partners on launches such as 'The Rig,' 'The Devil's Hour' and of course, 'Clarkson's Farm,' Chris has played a large part in establishing Prime Video as the premier entertainment destination in the U.K.. We're very grateful to Chris for all his contribution to the PV business and to Amazon, and we wish him the very best.' In a message to his colleague, Bird reflected on the seismic changes that had taken place in the industry since he first started. 'When I first joined a crazy small start-up called LoveFilm in 2004 (that was incorporated into Prime Video in 2010), our goal was to use new technology to help customers access film and TV in a deeper, more convenient, better value-for-money manner,' he wrote. 'We cared about having a great selection of programming, innovating on behalf of customers, and delighting them with an ever refreshing offering. We dreamed, one day, to make our own UK TV series. It is incredibly rewarding now to look back and see how we have stood by these principles, built a world-beating business, and served hundreds of millions of customers so well, with so much.'
