Princeton WR AJ Barber, Tiki's son, enters transfer portal

May 30 - Princeton wide receiver AJ Barber has entered the transfer portal, On3 reported Friday. Barber was a full-time starter last season and appeared in all 30 games during three seasons with the Tigers. He caught 109 passes for 1,264 yards and six touchdowns, never finishing lower than third on the team in receiving yards. Barber also played on special teams as a returner on kicks and punts. The Old Greenwich, Conn., native is the son of former New York Giants star running back Tiki Barber. A second-round pick out of Virginia, Tiki Barber spent all 10 of his NFL seasons with the Giants, becoming the team's all-time leading rusher. He scored 67 touchdowns and is one of three players in NFL history to accumulate 10,000 rushing yards and 5,000 receiving yards. The Tigers finished last season at 3-7, with a 2-5 record in Ivy League play under 14th-year head coach Bob Surace. --Field Level Media

PWHL hires Princeton coach Cara Gardner Morey as GM of its Vancouver expansion team

Cara Gardner Morey is leaving Princeton following seven seasons as women's hockey coach after being hired as general manager and the first employee of PWHL Vancouver's expansion franchise, the league announced Friday. Aside from spending 14 seasons at Princeton, Gardner Morey has held various coaching roles with Hockey Canada at the senior women and under-18 levels, while also serving as a developmental camp coach with the Philadelphia Flyers the past four years. She coached the Tigers to their first ECAC conference tournament title in 2020 as part of a school-record 26-win season. Her former Tigers players include Canadian national team members in forward Sarah Fillier and defenseman Claire Thompson, who were selected first and third overall in last year's PWHL draft. Gardner Morey's first priorities will involve hiring coaching and support staffs, while also preparing for the league's exclusive expansion signing period from June 4-8 and expansion draft on June 9. Her hiring comes two days after the PWHL appointed Boston Fleet assistant GM Meghan Turner to take over as general manager of its other expansion franchise in Seattle. The six-team league, in the midst of completing its second season, announced Vancouver and Seattle's additions in separate news conferences held a week apart late last month. 'Cara brings exceptional experience at all levels of the game, a deep understanding of player development, and an unwavering passion for advancing women's sports,' PWHL executive vice president of hockey operations Jayna Hefford said. From Hensall, Ontario, Gardner Morey played both ice and field hockey at Brown University, and also played in the original NWHL. She earned a masters in education at Arizona State. 'It's a privilege to help bring the best women's hockey to one of the greatest cities in the world,' Gardner Morey said. Vancouver was selected as the PWHL's first expansion franchise after attracting a sold-out crowd of 19,038 to a neutral site game in January. The yet-to-be-named Vancouver team will play out of the former home of the Vancouver Canucks, the Pacific Coliseum. ___ AP Women's Hockey:

Duke's Jon Scheyer Gets Transfer Portal News After Historic Season

Duke Blue Devils head coach Jon Scheyer has been extremely successful in his promoted role with the program. Scheyer took over as the head coach at Duke in 2022 and has since led the program to an Elite Eight run and Final Four run. Advertisement The Blue Devils are fresh off a trip to the Final Four, having defeated Mount St. Mary's, Baylor, Arizona and Alabama in the NCAA Tournament. They ultimately lost to Houston in the Final Four, forcing Scheyer back to the drawing board. As the Blue Devils prepare for a major roster change, they bolstered the team via the transfer portal. On Sunday, Princeton transfer Jack Scott announced his commitment to Duke. "Committed," Scott said. "@DukeMBB Thanks to Coach Scheyer, Coach Schrage, and the entire Duke coaching staff for this opportunity." Scott played three seasons with the Princeton Tigers, from 2022 to 2025. Last season at Princeton, Scott posted 1.7 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. Advertisement While he hasn't had incredible production during his college basketball career, he's an established player with NCAA Tournament experience. Duke Blue Devils head coach Jon Donnan-Imagn Images Scott will look to help boost the lineup as Duke loses a ton of production from the 2024-25 college basketball season. During a 35-4 season, the Blue Devils' first 35-win season in a decade and only sixth time in program history, they were led by one of the best freshmen classes college basketball has ever seen. Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel and Khaman Maluach all made their mark during their freshman seasons with the Blue Devils. Each player, who originally committed to Duke as a five-star recruit, declared for the 2025 NBA Draft. Florida basketball adds star Princeton guard Xaivian Lee via the NCAA transfer portal

Florida basketball made its first offseason acquisition on Wednesday with a commitment from one of the top-rated guards in the NCAA transfer portal, former Princeton Tigers standout Xaivian Lee. After making numerous campus visits with various schools, including one in Gainesville on Tuesday, the Canadian-American originally from Toronto, Ontario, decided to fly south to the Sunshine State after three years in New Jersey. Among the stops he made before choosing the Orange and Blue were with the Kansas Jayhawks and St. John's Red Storm. Advertisement While Lee is originally from north of the border, he graduated from Pennsburg (Pennsylvania) Perkiomen School—the same program that produced current Gator Thomas Haugh—in the 2022 class as a no-star prospect. He landed in the Ivy League with the Tigers, where he made an immediate impact off the bench as a true freshman, appearing in 32 games to tie the conference lead while averaging 13.4 minutes per. The 6-foot-4-inch guard's offensive output exploded from 4.3 points per game during his first year to 17.1 points the next season, earning the starting role in all 29 of the team's matchups. His average slipped ever-so-slightly this past campaign to 16.9 points per but he still managed to maintain his high level of play while starting in all 30 games; Lee also added 6.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.2 steals per while shooting 43.9% overall, including 36.6% from beyond the arc in 2024-25. With the departures of all three of Florida's starting guards, there will be plenty of room on the roster for the newcomer and every opportunity to earn one of the vacant starting roles. Denzel Aberdeen and Urban Klavžar represent his biggest opposition at the position, along with rising sophomore Isiaah Brown, but Todd Golden will undoubtedly find a way to maximize all of their talents on the court next season. Flau'jae Johnson's March Madness song is everywhere, so we ranked the lyrics

Flau'jae Johnson's March Madness song is everywhere, so we ranked the lyrics LSU Tigers guard Flau'jae Johnson and her new March Madness commercial are all over the women's NCAA tournament. I spotted a familiar face during a commercial break on Wednesday when I watched a First Four matchup between the Princeton Tigers and Iowa State Cyclones. "It takes more," a voice said as the person on my TV screen calmly spun a basketball on their finger cooler than I could ever do it. Flau'jae Johnson. Johnson was in another March Madness commercial like she was in 2024. This time, it was a catchy song that I quickly could not get out of my head. (Not to be dramatic, but the commercial was played AT LEAST 10 or more times Wednesday evening during both First Four matchups.) It was on during every commercial break, and I was humming the lyrics by bedtime. What have you done to me, Flau'jae Johnson?! I clearly wasn't familiar with her game. This song is never leaving my mind. In case you're wondering what I'm referring to, here's the commercial and accompanying dope song: Now that you know why I'm hooked, I figured I'd rank some of the best lyrics that set up shop deep in the recesses of my mind. Here are the five top bars from Flau'jae Johnson's new March Madness commercial: 5. Future WNBA star I know it takes more, so I don't care what others do. Know I'm causing trouble when I'm drafted to the W. 4. Relentless consistency I know what it takes to keep on going when you hate it. I know that it's worth it when you're torn and you made it. 3. Championship mentality They know I'm the sickest. Now, they gotta turn their dosage up. I know how it feels to wear that ring and throw that trophy up. 2. Building generational wealth I built me a legacy, made me a better me. Now, I'm the one they depend on. Ain't no one ahead of me, one-of-one pedigree. Feel like I threw in the endzone. 1. Subtle flex while balancing multiple careers I've been working hard. They act like they don't see 10-hour days. Know I got this juice with NIL. I'm sipping Powerade. I done turned the lemons into limes. Ain't no more sour days. I ain't let them put me in a box. I took all kind of ways.
