What to watch this week: ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer', ‘Tanvi the Great'

This franchise extension, the fourth film in the series, should test the limits of 1990s nostalgia (does anyone really care to see Freddie Prinze Jr. now?). Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt reprise their roles from the 1997 I Know What You Did Last Summer. Their characters are sought out by a new bunch of youngsters who've inadvertently killed someone and are now getting threatening messages. Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who's written the film with Sam Lansky. (In theatres) A still from 'Untamed'. A woman is found dead in Yosemite National Park. Agent Kyle Turner (Eric Bana) suspects it might not be a mere accident. Untamed is a thriller series created by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) and Elle Smith (The Marsh King's Daughter). Also starring Sam Neill, Wilson Bethel, Rosemarie DeWitt and Lily Santiago. (Netflix) A still from 'Tanvi the Great'. Tanvi (Shubhangi Dutt), a 21-year-old with autism, decides to join the army. She's helped in this by her mother (Pallavi Joshi) and grandfather, a former colonel (Anupam Kher). Directed by Kher. (In theatres) A still from 'Apocalypse in the Tropics'. A 2024 film that tracks the increasing influence of the evangelical movement in Brazil and its effect on the country's politics. Petra Costa's documentary gains access to conservative televangelist Silas Malafaia, a key supporter of former President Jair Bolsonaro. The film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival last year. (Netflix)

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. appeared together at the Los Angeles premiere of the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel on July 14, 2025. Photo courtesy of Sony Pictures June 17 (UPI) -- A new trailer for the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot features both Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. as they help a new group of teens outrun a killer. Hewitt and Prinze Jr. reprise their roles from the original 1997 film as Julie and Ray. Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers and Sarah Pidgeon portray the young people who find themselves in danger after concealing a fatal car accident. The preview begins as Cline's character opens a wedding gift. She assumes the card contains money or a check, but instead she reads the words "I know what you did last summer." "As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help," an official synopsis reads. They seek out Prinze Jr.'s Ray, who tells them, "This isn't something I like talking about." "Get them before they get you," Hewitt's Julie warns as the trailer continues. Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, Austin Nichols, Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chavez also star in the film, which opens in theaters July 18.

Movie fans of I Know What You Did Last Summer are raving about the 90s stars returning for the reboot of the iconic slasher flick. After the trailer for the upcoming film was released on Tuesday, many fans took to social media to rave over Jennifer Love Hewitt, now 46, and Freddie Prinze Jr., 49, reprising their roles. Social media users praised the stars of the 1997 original, stunned by how 'amazing' they look portraying their characters Julie James and Ray Bronson, respectively, nearly three decades later. The new teaser trailer opened with a young couple, who are played by Madelyn Cline and Joshua Orpin, enjoying a relaxing night when the series of events took a terrifying turn. The rest of the action-packed trailer showed the murderer hunting down the rest of their friend group to exact their vengeance. Near the end of the trailer, the iconic stars of the classic slasher made an appearance to the excitement of many OG fans. Hewitt was seen as her character Julie when she is asked for help from the friends now being targeted. She recited the iconic line: 'I just have one question... What did you do last summer?'
