BJP spokesperson flags inordinate delay in construction of road
Ludhiana: BJP Punjab spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal Monday raised concerns over the prolonged delay in the construction of Rahon Road, which falls under Sahnewal constituency. He said a meeting will soon be sought with the Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari , to urgently address the matter and initiate corrective action. Baliawal revealed that the Centre had sanctioned Rs 43.45 crore for Rahon Road project in March 2023. However, more than two-and-a-half years later, the road remains incomplete, with little visible progress on the ground. He said, "Rahon Road serves as a critical link for more than 50 villages in Sahnewal. Once completed, it would significantly reduce the travel distance between Ludhiana and Nawanshahr, benefiting thousands of daily commuters." He also expressed dismay over the current state of the road. "Despite the timely release of funds by the Centre, the Punjab govt has failed to execute the project efficiently. Wherever construction was initiated, the quality of work was extremely poor, marked by potholes and inferior materials," he added. Highlighting the impact on local residents, Baliawal said, "Far from connecting villages, the unfinished road has instead disrupted connectivity to 5–7 villages, affecting the mobility, safety, and livelihoods of residents ."
