Common services centre at Mithapur set for July opening
Patna: A cutting-edge common services centre (CSC), being developed at city's educational hub Mithapur at a cost of Rs 30 crore, is set to open this July. Spread over 26,000 square feet, the facility promises to serve as a modern, multifunctional hub catering to the needs of the residents as well as students. Mithapur, home to six prominent universities and educational institutions, has long been the academic nerve centre of the city. The new CSC, currently in its final stages of construction, will centralise essential services, from banking to food, in a single, easily accessible location. Being developed by Patna Smart City Limited (PSCL), the G+2 (ground plus two floors) structure will offer a unique blend of practical services and leisure spaces. Priya Saurabh, PSCL spokesperson, said the facility has been conceptualised with students at the heart of its design. "We are creating a hub that caters to all basic needs of the student community while ensuring modern amenities and convenience. It is a space where they can not only complete essential tasks but also connect and unwind," she said. Road over Mandiri drain to be ready before monsoon: PSCL
1 2 Patna: Around 70% of the construction work on the road over the Mandiri drain, connecting Nehru Path to Ashok Rajpath, has been completed. Slab casting has been done over approximately 1,000 metres of the drain. The two-lane road will be 1,289 metres long and include 4.5-metre-wide service lanes on both sides. The project, being executed under Patna Smart City Limited (PSCL), is expected to improve connectivity and ease traffic flow. Officials have set a target to complete the work by the end of June, before the onset of the monsoon. According to the detailed project report, the road is based on a double-barrel reinforced cement concrete (RCC) box model, which can be opened from the top to allow cleaning of the drain without damaging the road surface. "To expedite the remaining work, multiple segments are being developed simultaneously. Alongside the drain reconstruction, road construction is underway. Once the roadwork is completed, landscaping will be carried out on both sides for beautification," a PSCL official said. The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 86 crore, will connect the income-tax roundabout on Bailey Road to Bansghat on Danapur Bankipur Path. A box drain is being laid throughout with a two-lane road above it and additional service lanes to ease vehicle entry and turns. A service drain and utility duct are also being built to carry sewage from adjoining houses. PSCL spokesperson Priya Saurabh said, "Construction of three desilting chambers and four sluice gates is also underway. Two ramps and three desilting chambers are being built for drain maintenance. Four sluice gates are being constructed to prevent Ganga water from entering the drain during the monsoon when water levels rise." The Mandiri drain is the city's largest, linking nine major drains – S P Verma Road, Mithapur, Gardanibagh, Babu Bazar, Dhobighat, Eco Park, Chhajjubagh, MLA Flats, and the irrigation building drain. It plays a critical role in managing both sewage and rainwater drainage for six major catchment areas. The construction agreement for the project was signed on Sept 19, 2023 and work began shortly thereafter. The project is expected to conclude by the end of next month, approximately 21 months after commencement. The project, valued at Rs 52 crore, has been split into two distinct sections. The first – a lively picnic and vending zone infused with curated street food kiosks. The second – a tranquil green belt adorned with walking trails, ornamental landscaping, benches and atmospheric lighting. "The work will start soon and it will likely be completed within the next two months by utilising the funds to the tune of Rs 15 crore," said Priya Saurabh, spokesperson for PSCL. "The prefabricated structure will have space for 500 shops. Planter beds have been installed in this vending zone to make it look more appealing," she added. The designated vending zone will stretch 2,250 metres from Digha roundabout to Kurji Mor. Here, stylish prefabricated kiosks will be erected, creating a vibrant, neatly organised hub of flavours. From sizzling snacks to modern bites, it will be a one-stop haven for foodies. Beyond this lies the no-vending zone – from Kurji Mor to LCT Ghat – where a 650-metre stretch will be given over to calm and greenery. The department of environment, forest and climate change has taken charge here, rolling out a plan for plantations, pedestrian paths, decorative benches and soft-glow street lighting. This project will help to properly organise this area, ensuring adequate space for visitors to enjoy their picnics comfortably," Priya added. The revamp also comes with a practical twist. "The initiative is also aimed at addressing traffic congestion issues by expanding recreational areas and relocating scattered vendors to designated vending zones in an organised manner," she added. The new vending kiosks will come in three sizes – 600, 480 and 240 square feet – each designed for functionality and visual appeal. From decorative and bollard lighting to stylish streetlamps, shaded seating and fully equipped amenities including washrooms and urinals, the zone will combine street culture with smart infrastructure. Allocation of these sleek, portable shops is to be decided shortly, ensuring that the most popular street chefs of Patna can continue to shine in a better, more beautiful setting. Selfie-lovers won't be disappointed either. While the popular 'Chakachak Patna' photo point remains, two to three new selfie spots will be added. "Two parking spaces are already there, each at Digha roundabout and near Kurji Mor, so that the visitors can walk along the Ganga Path, enjoy the delicacies, and the beautiful view of the river," Priya said. For now, J P Ganga Path already thrums with life each evening. Food carts and makeshift stalls dish out a sensory explosion, from chaat, chowmein, and litti-chokha to momos, chicken fry, stuffed naan, pizza, and vada pav. Sweet treats like kulfi, faluda-ice cream, ice gola, and fresh fruit juices complete the nightly feast.

Hydraulic two-wheeler parking systems to be installed at key city locations soon
Patna: In a bid to address the city's mounting parking issues, Patna Smart City Limited (PSCL) has announced the installation of advanced hydraulic parking systems for two-wheelers at key locations in the city. These state-of-the-art facilities will be established on Boring Road, Maurya Lok Complex and the Kadamkuan locality, allowing for optimal use of limited space to accommodate more vehicles. Authorities have set a four-month deadline for completion of the project, inspired by the success of similar hydraulic parking systems implemented for cars at Maurya Lok and Budh Marg. The tender for the new project has already been floated. "The project is under the bidding process. Interested agencies can download the bid document until May 13. The technical bid will be opened on May 13, followed by the financial bid on May 14. The deadline for project completion is four months," said PSCL spokesperson Priya Saurabh. The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 4.65 crore, will include three fully automated hydraulic parking facilities, one each at Maurya Lok Complex, Boring Road Chauraha and near the Kadamkuan vending zone. "Each unit will accommodate 96 two-wheelers and include manual override options for emergencies. Using a shuttle dolly system, a vehicle placed on the ground floor is automatically transported to upper levels and retrieved with the help of robotic mechanisms. The facilities will be equipped with parking sensors, CCTV surveillance, and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras. Commuters visiting areas such as Maurya Lok, Income-Tax Roundabout, Dak Bungalow, Fraser Road, GPO roundabout, Budh Marg, Kadamkuan and Boring Road will be able to park their vehicles safely and avoid roadside parking. Users will also be able to pre-book parking slots. Multiple payment options will be available, including cash, UPI, and debit cards. After payment, a receipt will be generated, serving as both a parking token and a retrieval slip.
