Super Siofra O'Shea nets hat-trick as Kerry LGFA book place in All-Ireland semi-finals with comfortable win over Kildare

TWO first-half goals from Síofra O'Shea gave Kerry the platform to sweep Kildare aside in their TG4 All-Ireland SFC quarter-final. The Lilywhites got off to a strong start at Austin Stack Park, notching four points in the first nine minutes, but the Southern Gaels star's goals — she added a third after the break — were the hammer blow. With Alannah Prizeman — who hit two frees — Aoife Rattigan and Gillian Wheeler all finding the target for the Leinster side, the Kingdom were slower out of the blocks. But in the tenth minute, a cross-field kick found Emma Costello and after her shot was parried by goalkeeper Mary Hulgraine, O'Shea scored the rebound. Danielle O'Leary was also getting into her stride and the Rathmore attacker fired over two points, with a Rachel Dwyer effort sandwiched in between. Ciara Wheeler and Prizeman responded at the other end, with the sides level at 1-3 to 0-6 with 22 minutes on the clock. Two minutes later, the Kingdom were awarded a penalty when O'Shea was fouled by Lauren Murtagh. Read More on LGFA The And, despite Prizeman's Trojan work , a superb Anna Galvin point put the defending champions four up at the break, 2-5 to 0-7. The game was over as a contest in the 39th minute when O'Shea completed her hat-trick and the hosts remained in control until the end. Síofra O'Shea shines as Kerry see off Kildare

A brace of first-half goals from hat-trick hero Síofra O'Shea played a major part in Kerry's 3-12 to 0-11 victory over Kildare in the TG4 All-Ireland SFC quarter-final at Austin Stack Park. Even though the Lilywhites got off to a very strong start, notching four points in the opening nine minutes to take the early ascendancy, the concession of the two green flags before the break was a hammer blow to the visitors. With Alannah Prizeman (two frees), Aoife Rattigan and Gillian Wheeler all finding the target for the Leinster side, the Kingdom were slower out of the blocks before they struck for their first goal in the 10th minute. A cross-field kick from Niamh Carmody, and a pass from Cáit Lynch slipped advancing centre-back Emma Costello through the Kildare defence, and after her shot was parried by goalkeeper Mary Hulgraine, O'Shea was on hand to tap home the rebound. Danielle O'Leary was now getting into her stride, and the Rathmore attacker fired over two points, with a Rachel Dwyer effort sandwiched in between. Ciara Wheeler and Prizeman responded at the other end and the score was level after 22 minutes at 1-03 to 0-06. The Kingdom edged in front before the half's most crucial moment in the 24th minute when Niamh Ní Chonchúir set up O'Shea inside the Kildare cover and, after being fouled while in the act of shooting by Lauren Murtagh, a penalty was awarded. The Kerry full-forward picked herself up off the ground to beat the visiting custodian with a low spot-kick to the keeper's right and, despite Prizeman's trojan work, a superb Anna Galvin point had the defending champions four up at the break at 2-05 to 0-07. Kildare needed a boost early on the resumption, but Prizeman had a goalbound shot blocked on the line by Kerry captain Lynch, before Kerry, and O'Shea, pounced for green flag number three in the 39th minute to end the game as a contest. Midfielder Galvin was the instigator, fetching a kick-out and sending a pinpoint delivery to O'Shea, who gave Hulgraine no mistake. From there to the finish, the hosts were always in control, eventually cruising home by a 10-point margin to set up a last-four meeting with either Meath or Tipperary. Siofra O'Shea hat-trick helps champions Kerry overpower gutsy Kildare

TG4 All-Ireland SFC quarter-final: Kerry 3-11 Kildare 0-12 The 2024 All-Ireland Champions Kerry are through to their fourth consecutive semi-final but they had to withstand a gutsy challenge from the 2023 All-Ireland Intermediate champions Kildare at the Austin Stack park in this TG4 All-Ireland SFC quarter-final. Kildare gave the Kingdom a proper gut check in the opening quarter as they had the aid of a strong wind. The visitors served notice that they meant business as they raced 0-4 to 0-0 in front inside the opening eight minutes. Lisa Shaw and Lauren Murtagh were driving forward and had points from Alannah Prizeman (free), Aoife Rattigan, Gillian Wheeler and Prizeman with another free after Ciara Moran was fouled. Photo by Tyler Miller/Sportsfile But Kerry with Cait Lynch, Aoife Dillane and Emma Sherwood playing well, finally got their passing game going. The Kingdom struck for their opening goal in the 10th minute when Niamh Carmody and Cait Lynch sent Emma Costello through. Her shot was parried by keeper Mary Hulgraine but Siofra O'Shea finished to the net. With Danielle O'Leary and Caoimhe Evans linking up well, Kerry began to dominate possession but some wayward shooting against the wind did not help their scoring returns. Danielle O'Leary then levelled the contest with a trademark point, but Ciara Wheeler had Kildare back in front a minute later with a fine effort from play. Points from Rachel Dwyer and O'Leary saw Kerry lead for the first time but Alannah Prizeman kicked the equaliser in the 23rd minute. Kerry finished the half the stronger with some superb movement and accurate kick passing as Danielle O'Leary made it 1-4 to 0-6. Then in the 25th minute Kerry were awarded a penalty when Siofra O'Shea was fouled and O'Shea sent the keeper the wrong way. Prizeman responded with a fine effort from play but Kerry, thanks to an Anna Galvin point, retired 2-5 to 0-7 in front at the interval. Kildare began the second half as if they were going to wipe out the deficit in double quick time when Prizeman beat the Kerry keeper, but Cait Lynch took it off the line. Alannah Prizeman was proving a handful for the Kerry fullback line but she was getting very little help. Kerry, who ended up with eight different scorers, were much more potent in attack. Points followed from O'Leary, Carmody and O'Shea before the home side ended the game as a contest in the 40th minute when Anna Galvin set up Siofra O'Shea to complete her hat-trick. It was now 3-8 to 0-8 and though Prizeman added three frees, Kerry rounded off a 10-point win with points from Katie Brosnan, O'Shea, Niamh Ni Choncúir and Caoimhe Evans. They now await the winners of Meath or Tipperary in the semis in two weeks' time. Scorers for Kerry: S O'Shea ( 3-2, 1-0 pen, 1f), D O'Leary ( 0-4), A Galvin, N Carmody, N Ni Chonchúir, C Evans, R Dwyer, and K Brosnan ( 0-1 each). Meath hold off late Kildare fightback and reach Leinster final

Leinster Senior Ladies Football Championship: Meath 2-14 Kildare 1-16 Meath will face Dublin in next weekend's TG4 Leinster Senior Football Championship final at Croke Park after holding off a dramatic fightback from Kildare in their gripping round three meeting at Cedral St Conleth's Park in Newbridge on Sunday afternoon. After trading early scores with Meath's Kerrie Cole, Kildare attacker Roisin Byrne added her second point of the game in the seventh minute of the action. While the Royals subsequently found the target through the talismanic Vikki Wall and Orlaith Sheehy, the Lilies – who lost to Dublin in the same venue last weekend - responded to these efforts with contributions from Neasa Dooley and dead-ball specialist Alannah Prizeman. Another free courtesy of Naas' Prizeman moved Kildare two points in front, before Meath eventually hit a purple patch inside the second-quarter. After Cole doubled her account, Megan Thynne seized upon a short opposition kick-out and proceeded to release Emma Duggan for a simple 17th minute goal. Duggan and Niamh Gallogly also split the posts from distance as the opening period wore on and Meath were very much in the driving seat when the raiding Sarah Wall rattled the net on the half-hour mark. While a late Prizeman point reduced Kildare's deficit to six (2-6 to 0-6) in time for the interval, Meath reinforced their authority on the resumption with unanswered scores from Duggan and Ciara Smyth. The excellent Duggan went on to bolster her tally with a two-point salvo and the hard-working Prizeman did likewise at the opposite end as the Lilies gallantly sought their way back into contention. Kildare substitute Ellen Dowling also found the range to cancel out a Marion Farrelly point for Meath and this was quickly supplemented by Prizeman's sixth of the contest. Duggan added another white flag score to move the Royals eight clear (2-12 to 0-10) on the stroke of 50 minutes, but it was at this stage that the Lilies challenge kicked back into gear. Complementing Prizeman's second point from play, Ciara Wheeler fired home a 53rd minute goal at the second time of asking. Dowling and Prizeman then brought the gap down to two with quickfire scores, before Meath regained their composure with much-needed efforts from Smyth and Duggan. However, Kildare refused to throw in the towel and with Mia Doherty, Byrne and Dooley all kicking points during six minutes of stoppage-time, the bare minimum separated the sides in the end.
