Photo: Shannon Airport A legendary skateboarder has been spotted jetting out of Shannon Airport after enjoying a getaway in Ireland. American skateboarder Tony Hawk enjoyed a fruitful spell in Ireland and was spotted tearing up a skatepark in Cork last week. The 57-year-old was holidaying with his family and spent two hours at the skatepark in Mallow before sharing the experience on social media. Staff from Shannon Airport posed with 'Birdman' as they shared a snap with the star on Friday evening. The caption read: 'Boarding pass for a boarding legend please. Our Graduate Management Trainee Adam met Tony Hawk. The absolute pleasures of airport life! Tony Hawk's latest Irish venture is an extension of a storied history in the country over the past decade. He married his wife, Cathy Goodman, at a ceremony at Adare Manor in Limerick on June 27, 2015. The San Diego native has been ranked as one of the most influential skateboarders of all time and is credited with bringing the sport to the mainstream. He won over 70 contests across a 17-year professional career and was known for introducing an array of tricks to the skateboarding world. Most notably, he was the first skateboarder to land a '900' – a trick involving two and a half mid-air rotations on a skateboard. Hawk's star has continued to rise since retiring from professional competition in 1999. Over 20 skateboarding games have been released in his name, including the launch of the best-selling Tony Hawks' Pro Skater series which initially ran from 1999-2002. After the series was credited with inspiring a generation of skateboarders in the early 2000s, an up-to-date remake was commissioned for the legendary Pro Skater 3 and 4 titles and is set to hit the shelves on July 11.

Watch skateboarding legend Tony Hawk enjoy Cork skatepark

Mr Hawk and his children skated in Mallow for more than two hours Skateboarding royalty Tony Hawk spent nearly two hours shredding at Mallow's skatepark on Monday. Mr Hawk is widely known as a legend of his sport, and he rated his experience in Mallow at a cool 10/10. The 57-year-old said, in a Reddit post from his official account, that he is currently on vacation in Ireland and his kids wanted to skate at least once. 'Who am I to deny them? In these situations, my role is strictly facilitative: finding a decent park, providing transportation and on-demand follow-cam,' he said. 'When they finally got their clips, I handed my phone to Miles to chase me around one time. 'We had the whole place to ourselves for nearly two hours btw. '10/10 would skate again.' Mr Hawk has strong ties to Ireland, and particularly Munster, as he married his wife Cathy Goodman at Adare Manor in Limerick in June 2015, and Mr Hawk attended the Nine Inch Nails gig at the 3Arena to celebrate. In an Instagram post, he posted clips from the Nine Inch Nails gig and skateboarding in Mallow with the caption: 'Best anniversary ideas: Ireland with kids, Nine Inch Nails & empty skateparks,' followed by an Ireland flag, a wedding ring, music notes and skateboard emojis. The San Diego man played an influential role in bringing the art of skateboarding to the mainstream in the late 1990s. He won over 70 competitions across his 17-year career and became the world's first skateboarder to land a '900' at the X Games, to inspire a generation of skaters. Avid Cork skateboarders may have missed their chance to meet Mr Hawk in Mallow, but there is an off-chance he might appear at a park elsewhere while he holidays in Ireland. Mr Hawk's legacy has been immortalised in eponymous video games. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and 4, which originally hit the shelves in 2001 and 2002 respectively, have been authentically remade and will be available from July 11.

Downtown L.A.'s infamous graffiti towers are being immortalized in a new Tony Hawk game

Oh, Oceanwide Plaza… The trio of Arena –adjacent towers began construction a decade ago, but stalled out in 2019 when its developer ran out of money. Then, early least year, the windows of about 27 floors were tagged with very visible graffiti—and, despite the L.A. City Council initially saying it would clean up the buildings, they still remain all tagged up. Now, these monuments to Downtown L.A.'s slump are about to be immortalized in a video game. The graffiti towers' appearance is actually part of a much more upbeat announcement: The Los Angeles-inspired level in the upcoming Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 will include a detailed recreation of Miracle Mile's much-loved El Rey Theatre. Thanks to a collaboration between publisher Activision and promoter AEG Presents, both Goldenvoice and the Roxy will have billboards in the level, as well. But the announcement footage for the El Rey's inclusion came with one unmissable detail: a graffiti-covered skyscraper looming in the background that looks unmistakably like the beleaguered Oceanwide Plaza buildings. If you're wondering what a Mid-Wilshire theater is doing next to a DTLA high-rise, the remake of the early-aughts skateboarding game's L.A. level is kind of a pastiche of local landmarks. (And the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 didn't include the El Rey in that space but an adult movie theater instead.) Pershing Square's purple tower is immediately recognizable, as is the Biltmore across the street and the car wash by L.A. Live. You can also spot the U.S. Bank Tower, the L.A. Central Library and some fictional earthquake-damaged freeway overpasses. The latest Tony Hawk remake releases on July 11, but ahead of that on May 8, there'll be a livestream hosted out of the El Rey to reveal more information about the game—with performances from Danny Brown, Lupe Fiasco, Adolescents and Urethane, no less. (We've reached out to Activision to find out if average Angelenos can purchase tickets to the in-person event, which has been dubbed THPS Fest.) You'll find plenty of folks musing online about whether Oceanwide Plaza will be scrubbed of graffiti or demolished altogether by the time the 2028 Olympics arrive in L.A. But, you know, worst case, these Tony Hawk remakes have suddenly made us realize that— forget the Sepulveda Basin —L.A.'s abandoned graffiti towers just might be the perfect place to stage Olympic skateboarding.

Tony Hawk 3+4 Will Be Shadow Dropped Soon

Rumor has it that is indeed in the works, and it'll be shadow dropped very, very soon. The claim follows comments made by professional skateboarder Tyshawn Jones, who recently said that he's in the 'new Tony Hawk remaster that's about to come out.' Following Jones' viral comments in the Breakfast Club podcast, known leaker eXtas1s claimed Pro Skater 3 and 4 remasters will be shadow dropped for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC during an Xbox Games Showcase scheduled to take place in June 2025. EXtas1s didn't mention last-gen platforms, so those who enjoyed the 1+2 remasters on the PS4 might have to make the jump to current-gen, if they haven't already. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and 4 originally released in 2001 and 2002, respectively. Vicarious Visions, who worked on the 1+2 remaster, co-developed the original games. Activision, which is now part of Microsoft, continues to own the IP. As usual, take all rumors with a grain of salt until official confirmation. However, given that Jones outright mentioned being in a new Tony Hawk remaster, we think this rumor is at least partially true. One ResetEra user added weight to the rumor, revealing that their friend pitched an ad for the game that was subsequently turned down.
