Newcastle haunted by Alexander Isak U-turn as broken transfer promise emerges

Newcastle could lose Alexander Isak this summer with the striker eyeing up other options - just 12 months after the Swedish forward saw a contract promise broken Newcastle face the prospect of losing Alexander Isak this summer - with the Swede telling the club he wants to explore his options away from St James' Park. ‌ The forward has become one of Europe's elite No.9s and has spearheaded the Magpies' recent rise, but is now considering a move for pastures new - with Liverpool the favourites to land the £125million-rated star. It comes a year after he thought a new contract was coming his way, only for those talks to be shelved in a move that still stings. ‌ Even before his record-breaking recent season, Isak was clearly heading towards top-class status and former co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi reassured the forward and his camp in March of last year that improved terms were on the way. ‌ However a change to the hierarchy meant that promise was broken and that stung Isak. Now, with the club wanting to reward his importance with a new contract, the player is instead looking at what could be on the horizon for him away from Newcastle. It all comes back to the decision taken by former sporting director Paul Mitchell, who has since left after only spending a year in his role. The ex-Monaco and Tottenham chief told Isak that he would not be offered a new deal with the salary he wanted potentially leading to Profit and Sustainability breaches, as reported the Daily Mail. ‌ Mitchell felt that the Swede still had four years left to run on his contract - now three - and was already among the club's highest earners. It has been claimed that the decision upset Isak, with his frustration impacting on the dressing room as a whole. In light of his stellar season, where Isak scored 27 times in all competitions, including one in the Carabao Cup final, the club are ready to offer him a huge pay increase but it may be a case of too little, too late with the player making rumblings that he wants a new challenge elsewhere. Eddie Howe has confessed that any decision must benefit Newcastle, with the club potentially landing a British-record fee if Isak does leave, with the hierarchy ultimately making the final call on his future. He said: "The club will make the right decision with all the information that it has, and ultimately to try and move the club forward in whatever way that is. "But I think there's a wider picture here. There's a whole football club that has to make the decision. The ownership, together with the board of directors, especially with the money involved in modern day transfers. The manager of course has an opinion, but ultimately the decision will rest with the board." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Man Utd draw up unusual summer transfer plan in bid to fix PSR issue

Manchester United are taking a new approach to transfers and have offered a number of their young stars to other clubs in order to try and earn greater profits in the future Manchester United are adopting a new transfer approach and offering up academy players to other clubs. The Red Devils have compiled a list of their young players, all 18 or older, and provided teams the opportunity to sign their talent. ‌ United are said to be willing to sell the players essentially for free with the caveat of high sell-on clauses being included in deals, the MEN reports. The news is reported to have come as a shock to some families and representatives, but United say players have been consulted. ‌ Clubs are said to have been surprised the the names offered up. That has stemmed from the fact that the players' arrivals at Old Trafford came via sizeable transfer fees to land them. ‌ The move comes as United seek to reform their approach to abiding by Profit and Sustainability rules. The club are attempting a new tactic in gaining transfer fees for players they do not believe will make it to the first-team. United also suggest it is 'standard practice' to make decisions ono the futures of their academy products at 18. They affird players are within the rights to turn down moves. The MEN add that significant changes are taking place at the club's academy. Some claim the desire to cut costs around the club has influenced decisions in the set-up. ‌ The academy has also recently seen Manchester United legend Darren Fletcher take a new role. The ex-Scotland international is the new coach of the club's under-18s side, taking on his fifth different position at the club. Fletcher has previously coached the under-16 side, doing so on his return to United in October 2020. The former midfielder has also seen roles of first-team coach and technical director in his second stint. ‌ 'I am really excited to take on this new role and increase my responsibility to directly develop our young players," said Fletcher. "I'm looking forward to working with such a talented age-group; supporting them to reach their potential and preparing them to enjoy careers at the highest level possible." United's director of football Jason Wilcox added: 'We are delighted that Darren will lead our Under-18s group. He knows exactly what it takes to be a successful Academy graduate and has played a key role in shaping the pathway for so many of our young players in recent years. 'Darren's excellent relationships across the entire staff will only increase the strong connection between the Academy and first team, further enhancing our ability to produce world-class players ready to excel at Manchester United.'

And they will battle Chelsea for £60m-rated Pedro, while wrapping up £30m Trafford, after June 30. That is when a new window begins for Profit and Sustainability rules — in which Toon may be able to include around £100m in Champions League revenue. Elanga is Howe's top target on the right wing although the club are also exploring other targets in case they fail to land the Swede. Aston Villa's Jacob Ramsey and Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo are also on the radar. Howe is a huge admirer of Pedro and missed out on him three years ago when he was at Watford before eventually landing Alexander Isak, who he now wants the Samba star to help support in attack. Brighton are willing to cash in after he was axed for the last two games of the season by Fabian Hurzeler following a training-ground bust-up with team-mate Jan Paul van Hecke. Newcastle's players are due to report back for pre-season training on July 7 and Howe, who also ideally wants a new centre-half too, hopes to have at least two new signings on board by then. Man Utd to earn 'substantial' windfall for player sold less than 12 months ago

Manchester United's Profit and Sustainability concerns are set to be eased with one of their former academy players expected to be on the move this summer, just a year ater leaving the Red Devils Manchester United are set to earn a substantial transfer windfall thanks to former star Maxi Oyedele. The United academy graduate left the Red Devils a year ago for Legia Warsaw, having never played a senior game at Old Trafford. But he has starred in Poland, making 24 appearances in all competitions as Legia won the Polish Cup. That was their first major trophy since 2023, with Oyedele playing all 90 minutes of the final. ‌ Though he only joined last summer and has two years to run on his contract, the midfielder is attracting strong interest. Werder Bremen, PSV Eindhoven, Anderlecht, Club Brugge and a number of Championship sides are understood to be monitoring the 20-year-old. ‌ There is a release clause in his contract that means he is available for a tick over £5million this summer. There is a growing expectation at Legia that he will be departing the club after just one season. If he does indeed move on, it would bank United a healthy sum, which will go a way towards easing their concerns with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules. The Red Devils are hoping to be busy this summer and any fee received will be greatly appreciated. In a surprise move given he left just 12 months ago, United will benefit substantially from Oyedele's potential transfer. When they sold him last summer, United inserted various clauses into the deal. While they only sold him for a small fee, one of the clauses they inserted was a substantial sell-on clause to ensure future profit. That sell-on clause means that United are entitled to 40 per cent of any fee Legia receive for the midfielder. If he is sold for his release clause, it would see United bank just over £2m. That money would likely go straight into easing their PSR concerns, with a buy-back option also included in the original deal. ‌ A departure for Oyedele would come as somewhat of a surprise given his short time in Poland. Speaking in April, the youngster insisted he was happy with life in the capital city. 'It's just funny for my mum because she left Poland to come to England and make a life; I left England to go to Poland to start my journey,' Oyedele told The Guardian. 'Legia was the biggest opportunity. "I don't even think I realised how big of an opportunity it was when I heard about it. I felt like this was the opportunity to play in Europe, the biggest team in Poland. It's my nationality, so it's close to the national team. "It's always a risk to leave it, but it just seemed like the best choice. I couldn't afford to waste another year playing academy football. I could have stayed in England and continued my journey and who knows what would have happened."
