Thomas LeGro Thomas LeGro, an award-winning Washington Post journalist, has been charged for allegedly possessing child pornography on Friday, after being arrested following a search at his home, the United States Department of Justice (DoJ) announced on Friday. According to a DoJ press release , videos depicting child sexual abuse material were found in LeGro's work laptop. "FBI agents executed a search warrant at LeGro's residence and seized several electronic devices. A review of his work laptop revealed a folder which contained 11 videos depicting child sexual abuse material," the Justice Department said. "During the execution of the search warrant, agents observed what appeared to be fractured pieces of a hard drive in the hallway outside the room where LeGro's work laptop was found," it added. The case against the Washington Post journalist was brought as part of the Department of Justice's Project Safe Childhood, a February 2006 initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. A 38-year-old Michigan man has been sentenced to prison after admitting to purchasing collections of child pornography while employed at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay. According to court documents, David Mark Bartels of White Cloud pleaded guilty in January 2025 to one count of possession of child pornography by a person employed by the armed forces outside of the U.S. Bartels was sentenced Friday to five years in prison and ordered to pay $63,000 in restitution. Federal prosecutors say a forensic review of a five-terabyte hard drive taken from Bartels revealed tens of thousands of child pornography files in a folder called "\NSFW\Nope\Dont open\You were Warned\Deeper\." The files allegedly included 1,500 videos and images of 285 known victims. Bartels, officials allege, used the Tor browser, which allowed him to browse the dark web and access child pornography. NCIS Resident Agency Guantanamo Bay investigated the case, which was prosecuted as part of the Department of Justice's Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide effort launched in May 2006 to combat abuse and child sexual exploitation.

Muhlenberg County man sentenced to 5 years for child exploitation offense
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Court officials say a Muhlenberg County man was sentenced on June 10 to five years in federal prison for distribution of child pornography. According to court documents, James Matthew Rosenkranz, 41, was sentenced to five years in federal prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release, for one count of distribution of child pornography. There is no parole in the federal system. The case was investigated by the FBI Owensboro Resident Office.
