BTS announce tour, promise album

K-pop supergroup BTS will head to the United States this month to start working on new music and will launch its next album early next year ahead of a world tour, it said on Tuesday, as per Reuters. The seven members of South Korea's most lucrative group made the announcement during a livestream on Weverse, a superfan platform owned by HYBE, an entertainment firm that manages BTS. "Hey guys, we are back," BTS member Jimin said in the 30-minute livestream. HYBE said it attracted more than 7.3 million real-time views and that the world tour would be BTS' first in approximately four years. "Starting in July — we're planning to make something massive, so from then (this month), we'll probably gather together and stay focused on making music," said band leader RM. "Our group album is officially set to be released next spring," RM added during a live chat. "Starting next spring, we'll of course be going on tour, so please look forward to seeing us all around the globe," he added. The upcoming album, which BTS will produce in the United States and other countries, will be the band's first full-length album since 2020, BTS leader, RM, said. As per the Guardian, if released in the spring of 2026, the BTS comeback album would be its first in four years since Proof, which was the best-selling album of 2022 in South Korea, with nearly 3.5 million copies sold. The band made its debut on June 13, 2013, and spearheaded a global K-pop craze with lyrics and social campaigns aimed at empowering youngsters. BTS had been on a break since 2022 as its members undertook the mandatory service required of all South Korean men under 30 due to tensions with the nuclear-armed North. SUGA, the last BTS member to complete his military service, was discharged on June 21, paving the way for the band's reunion.

BTS to release first album in four years

SEOUL — BTS is launching its first album in four years next spring, a high-stakes comeback for the Korean pop (K-pop) sensation, its agent Hybe Company and South Korea's music industry. The seven-member group which grew from unknown boy band to global juggernaut, commanded sold-out global tours and Billboard Music awards, with appearances at the United Nations (UN) and the Qatar World Cup in 2022. Before pausing at the group's peak in 2022, members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jung Kook thrust K-pop to the forefront of the global music stage. 'We are planning to focus on creating new songs from July,' RM said during a live chat on fan communication platform Weverse. 'Our album is coming out next spring. And there will be a global tour for sure.' BTS plans to produce the new album in the United States from this month. Suga became the final BTS member to complete his military service last month, fuelling anticipation and drawing a fresh wave of international fans to Hybe's Seoul headquarters. The new record will be the band's first as a complete group since Proof in 2022. Their last concert, 'Yet to Come in Busan,' was held in October of that year. BTS members' decision to serve in the military, despite national debate over possible exemptions, was both principled and risky. It endeared them further to fans but left a vacuum in a hyper-competitive music scene shaped by TikTok trends, hits generated by artificial intelligence (AI) and rapidly shifting fan loyalties. BTS' fan group, which goes by the name ARMY, is one of the most organised and loyal in music history and has a strong global presence. During the hiatus, fan engagement remained strong through solo music projects and merchandising. BTS' return comes as Hybe adjusts after Scooter Braun's decision to step down as CEO of Hybe America and grapples with internal disputes over the management rights of NewJeans. During the group's absence, Hybe diversified its revenues aggressively, with acts like boy band Seventeen and US-based group Katseye gaining traction globally.

K-pop supergroup BTS on Tuesday announced their comeback in the spring of 2026 with an album and world tour, prompting a fan frenzy as millions eagerly await their return. South Korea's most lucrative musical act has been on a self-described hiatus since 2022 as its members undertook the mandatory service required of all South Korean men under 30 due to tensions with the nuclear-armed North. With five members discharged from military service in June, many in the industry have been anticipating their comeback. "Starting in July... we're planning to make something massive, so from then (this month), we'll probably gather together and stay focused on making music," band leader RM said on their superfan platform Weverse. "Our group album is officially set to be released next spring," RM said during a live chat. "Starting next spring, we'll of course be going on tour, so please look forward to seeing us all around the globe," he added. The band also revealed their plans to head this month to the United States, where all seven members will gradually regroup to begin music production and prepare for upcoming performances. If released in the spring of 2026, their comeback album would be their first in four years since "Proof", which was the best-selling album of 2022 in South Korea, with nearly 3.5 million copies sold. Prior to their mandatory military service, the boy band generated more than 5.5 trillion won ($4 billion) in yearly economic impact, according to the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute. That accounts for roughly 0.2 percent of South Korea's total GDP, according to official data. BTS holds the record as the most-streamed group on Spotify, and became the first K-pop act to top both the Billboard 200 and the Billboard Artist 100 charts in the United States.
