British woman, 37, is 'sexually assaulted during a massage' at her hotel on Greek island

A British tourist has claimed that she was sexually assaulted during a massage on holiday to Greece. The 37-year-old had been staying at a hotel on Rhodes when she said she was touched inappropriately while on the massage table last Thursday. The employee touched her with their fingernail six times in a disputed area but the holidaymaker said there was no need or context as to why the masseuse touched her there. She told cops at the Ialisos Police Station that she felt uncomfortable and offended by the 'indecent and violating' behaviour, it was reported in local paper Proto Thema. She added that there was no consent for the employee from the hotel in the Kremasti area for that specific contact, which was an 'insult to her sexual decency'. The tourist, who had been visiting the popular Greek island as part of her summer holiday, has filed a lawsuit for sexual assault and indecent assault. The police have also launched an investigation into the alleged assault. The complaint comes only hours after a British tourist was found dead on his sun lounger on another Greek island. The 73-year-old man was found by fellow beach-goers at the spot in Agia Paraskevi, Skiathos, on Friday. They alerted a lifeguard who provided first aid and called the emergency services, according to local reports. A doctor from a nearby health centre tried for 40 minutes to revive the tourist but unfortunately was unable to do so. The man's cause of death is unknown, and an autopsy is being carried out. It comes after another British tourist was also found dead on a Greek beach. The 68-year-old man was tragically found dead in Lindos, on the island of Rhodes on June 12. Local media reported that he had apparently gone for a swim, and lost consciousness before passing away.

Israel Katz Issues Stark Warning to Khamenei: Could Iran's Leader Face Saddam's Fate?

Yisrael Katz reminded Khamenei of the fate of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, who was captured and executed after the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz issued a stern warning to Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, drawing a provocative parallel with the fate of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. Katz referenced Hussein, reminding Khamenei of the dictator's downfall and execution following the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, as reported by Deutsche Welle. The warning followed escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, marked by recent military confrontations. On June 13, Israel carried out military airstrikes against sites across Iran, targeting military and nuclear facilities. The strikes reportedly resulted in the deaths of several senior Iranian commanders and nine nuclear scientists. Iranian retaliation soon followed, with over 200 missiles launched against Israel, causing 24 deaths and over 500 injuries, Anadolu Ajansı reported. During a security assessment with Israeli military commanders, Katz accused Khamenei of committing war crimes through continued missile attacks on Israeli civilians, noted Trend News. "He should remember what happened to the dictator in the country that borders Iran, who went down this path against the State of Israel," Katz stated, referring to Hussein. The conflict has caused numerous casualties on both sides. Since the escalation began, 248 people have died, with 224 being Iranians, most of whom are civilians, reported El Peridico. Israeli airstrikes have claimed the lives of key Iranian military figures, including Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, and IRGC Commander Hossein Salami. Israel's military actions also targeted strategic infrastructure, including a strike on the Islamic Republic's state television building in Tehran as it was broadcasting live. Yoav Gallant, another senior official, confirmed these operations and emphasized that other Iranian governmental institutions might also be targets, according to Proto Thema. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed on American ABC television that targeting Khamenei could potentially end the ongoing conflict, suggesting, "killing Khamenei would put an end to the conflict." This discussion arises amid claims that former U.S. President Donald Trump previously opposed an Israeli plan to assassinate Khamenei, Al-Quds Al-Arabi mentioned. The Israeli Defense Ministry has issued evacuation warnings to residents of Tehran, urging them to leave targeted areas. Katz reiterated this directive and asserted that Israeli forces would continue offensive strikes on Iranian regime targets to undermine the Islamic Republic's capacity for future strikes, according to Proto Thema. As events unfold, the international community remains wary of the developments, particularly concerning the strategic ramifications in the volatile Middle East region. Khamenei, at 86, faces increasing internal and external pressures, with his authority reportedly challenged by factions within Iran vying for influence, according to Al-Quds Al-Arabi.

The Brits were accused of violating archaeological law and degrading the surrounding area. Now, two of the Brits who organised the photo shoot have been found guilty of degrading the cultural landscape of Corfu. They were handed a six-month suspended prison sentence. But the court came to the conclusion that the five Brit women were innocent of the offence of violating Archaeological Law. This is because there was no evidence that material damage was caused to the monument. After the Brit women left the court, they thanked the Greek judiciary and apologised for the bizarre incident and the disruption they may have caused. They added that they had no intention of offending the residents nor the culture of the island which they have loved for many years having visited Corfu multiple times, reportedly to take part in dance events. Dozens of furious residents slammed the shoot after it went viral online, branding it 'disgraceful' – and accusing the performers of being British, local outlet Proto Thema reported. Outraged locals flooded Facebook with questions. 'Did the permanent residents of the historic centre and their association take a position for this event?' one asked. 'Who gave the permission slip?' demanded another. 'Someone should call the police,' a third added.

Greek PM ‘not trying to pick a fight' with Turkiye, to pursue visit

ATHENS: Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Wednesday vowed to carry out a planned visit to Turkiye despite regional tension and the recent arrest of Istanbul's mayor. The Greek leader was to visit Ankara this month under a schedule agreed in 2023 to smooth over differences between the rival neighbors, who are NATO members. The trip appeared to have been shelved after the Athens government last month said it was 'difficult' to organize after the 'worrying' arrest of Istanbul's opposition mayor Ekrem Imamoglu. Mitsotakis said Wednesday however that he would go ahead with a planned meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He did not say when it would happen. 'There is no issue or particular reason why this meeting should be postponed,' he told Proto Thema daily. Mitsotakis added that he was 'not trying to pick a fight with Turkiye' to burnish his domestic standing. The Aegean boundary between the two, which Greece says is based on 20th century treaties, is a key obstacle in relations. There are frequent disputes over migration, energy exploration in the Aegean and territorial sovereignty. Greece last week released a marine spatial planning map which Turkiye said violates its maritime jurisdiction in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean. Turkiye has also sought to impede an electricity cable project between Greece, Cyprus and Israel called the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI). Mitsotakis on Wednesday called the cable 'a European project which will proceed in due course.'
