Dame Prue Leith sets record on Great British Bake Off exit after quitting celebrity specials

The Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith has been a show judge since it moved to Channel 4 from the BBC in 2017 and has given an update after she quit the celebrity version Dame Prue Leith has addressed the rumours that she is going to quit The Great British Bake Off. The renowned TV chef, replaced Dame Mary Berry as a judge on the TV favourite when it moved to Channel 4 in 2017, and has been seen alongside Paul Hollywood ever since. ‌ She has also gone on to host Prue Leith's Cotswolds Kitchen for ITV and last year appeared on The Masked Singer. But, earlier this year, she did not appear on the celebrity edition of Bake Off so fans are always asking her if she has quit for good. ‌ But that is not the case, and during an appearance on ITV's Lorraine, she told viewers that she only stopped appearing the celebrity version because she needed a break, explaining: "I keep being asked if I'm leaving. This is because I left the celebrity [version]. I stopped doing that last year because I just hadn't had a holiday in the summer for eight years. I've only given up Celebrity [Bake Off]." ‌ The TV favourite is currently busy filming the American version of the baking show, and confirmed that she is still very much a part of the original programme. She said: "I still do The Great American Bake Off, which we are filming at the moment, and I still do The Great British Bake Off, which I love, and is the mother of them all." ‌ Prue, who was replaced by Caroline Waldegrave as a judge on the latest series of the Stand Up 2 Cancer specials, has no intention of leaving the regular version of the programme, adding: "It's the best job in telly. It's absolutely the best job in telly, I don't have to learn lines, I don't have to have script. I just walk on and eat cake." The star was also quick to heap praise on the addition of Alison Hammond as presenter, who replaced Matt Lucas in 2023 and now carries out hosting duties with Noel Fielding. Noting that the Big Brother legend has had a big impact on the team, she said: "I think Alison has made a huge difference to the team, she gets on so well with Noel with all of us. She's so loving and the bakers adore her, she's like Big Mama!" It was reported earlier this year that Prue had chosen to step back from her duties on the show to relish some well-deserved rest. And at the time, she disclosed: "It's mainly because these things are filmed back to back." She went on to say: "The whole way through the summer, so you start in April and you end at the end of August. Honestly, you get no time off. And, I'm getting a bit old and there's places I want to go." But her replacement is no newbie to the small screen, as Caroline has graced programmes like Chef School, Masterchef, and Tricks of the Trade, and she has also penned several cookbooks. As The Great Celebrity Bake Off gears up for its latest season this weekend, Lady Waldegrave shared her thoughts on succeeding Dame Prue Leith as a judge. She confessed: "I was completely terrified."

New Celebrity Bake Off judge 'revealed' ahead of upcoming series - and you'll definitely recognise her

Celebrity Bake Off is heating up - and a brand new judge is reportedly joining the tent. The next series, set to air in 2026, will see acclaimed pastry chef Cherish Finden, 57, step in as a judge, according to The Sun. Cherish, known to viewers as the no-nonsense star of Bake Off: The Professionals, is a multi-award-winning chef with more than 20 years of international experience under her apron. A former Culinary Olympics champion, she currently serves as Executive Pastry Chef at London's five-star Langham Hotel and has been dubbed one of the UK's top afternoon tea experts. She joined Bake Off: The Professionals in 2016 and has since become a fan favourite for her razor-sharp critiques and flawless standards. Born in Singapore, Cherish began working at just 14 and quickly moved into the kitchen, enrolling in culinary school at 16. She went on to train in some of Singapore's most prestigious hotels, including the iconic six-star Raffles. As a seasoned TV personality, Cherish has appeared on MasterChef UK, Australian MasterChef, Junior Bake Off, An Extra Slice, and Heston's Great British Food on Channel 4. She even baked for royalty – designing a cake shaped like Windsor Castle for the late Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday. MailOnline has contacted Channel 4 and Cherish's representative for comment. The new role comes after Prue Leith, 85, announced she was stepping away from all Great British Bake Off specials earlier this year. Her place was temporarily filled by food writer Caroline Waldegrave, 72, during the most recent series. Prue confirmed the news on This Morning, explaining she would continue on the main show alongside Paul Hollywood, 59, but not on spin-offs. The upcoming Stand Up To Cancer special is already shaping up to be a star-studded affair. Hollywood actress Ambika Mod, 29, who rose to prominence in This Is Going To Hurt and shot to stardom in One Day, will reportedly be taking part alongside Geordie Shore favourite Vicky Pattison, 37. Also joining the line-up are comedian Babatunde Aleshe, 38, Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague, 26, and former Celebrity Big Brother contestant JoJo Siwa, 22. They'll be joined by RAG 'N' Bone Man, 40, broadcaster Edith Bowman, 51, and 8 Out of 10 Cats regular Jon Richardson, 42 – all ready to be judged by Cherish and Paul in the iconic Bake Off tent.

English town on the edge of the Cotswolds with award-winning pub and four huge festivals a year

THE Cotswolds are undoubtedly one of the prettiest places to visit in the UK - but there is one particular town on the edge of the region which is lesser known. Situated in the Evenlode Valley, Charlbury is a quaint Oxfordshire town with a number of festivals throughout the year. 4 One such festival - coming up on June 28 - is Charlbury Beer Festival. On June 28, the Cricket Club takes place with 60 cask ales and over 18 craft beers from local breweries as well as live performances. Another festival is the Riverside Festival, which BBC Radio 6 Music's Steve Lamacq, claims to be "one of the top festivals in the UK". The festival is free and family-friendly, with a range of different music including rock, indie, jazz and folk. The festival has a number of children's activities too. Arguably, though, the most famous festival in the town is Wilderness music festival. This year's line-up includes Aurora, Wet Leg and Annie Mac. In addition to a large musical line-up, there are also food-related guests such as Prue Leith. There is also a 'Talks, Comedy and Conversations' line-up including Great Company with Jamie Laing Live and Food Stories with Jay Rayner. Attendees can also partake in yoga and wellness sessions. Inside the coolest new place to stay in the Cotswolds In the town itself, there is a railway station that serves the London to Worcester mainline - making it easy to access. And traveller's can head to Charlbury Museum - which has five rooms full of exhibits telling the history of the ancient market town. For example, visitors can learn about the penny-farthing bicycle and see Victorian costumes. And if you fancy a tipple, The Rose & Crown is a multi-time CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) award-winning pub. The traditional spot is known for boasting a variety of real ales and hosts regular live music events including blues and country artists. 4 The pub itself dates back to 1688 and is often referred to locals as 'Rosie'. One visitor commented: " Fantastic traditional pub. We visited for the winter beer festival, what a great experience. "The pub was packed with 20+ beers on offer, a great selection with some very different and interesting ales. Other pubs in Charlbury include The Bell and The Bull. On the edge of the town is also Cornbury Park, which used to be one of the royal hunting lodges for the Wychwood Forest. Whilst the 16th century house is not open to the public, it does host a number of events throughout the year including Wilderness music festival. 4 For places to stay, there is TreeDwellers which The Sun's assistant travel editor Sophie Swietochowski stayed at the site last year. She said: "The newly opened TreeDwellers, buried in woodland near the Cotswolds village of Charlbury, blends almost seamlessly with nature. "It's seven wooden and copper treehouses are propped up on stilts, three-metres above the floor, and each features green, vegan handwash and eco-lotions that match the setting." If you really want to feel at one with nature, there are campsites in the area too. A woman recently visited the UK's best kept secret that feels like the Cotswolds without the price. Plus, The Sun's Caroline McGuire took her kids to the Cotswolds attraction that has cute farm animals, huge playground and nearby campsite. 4
