Selangor lawmakers to be briefed on Putra Heights gas explosion
KLANG: A special briefing session on the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion that happened in April will be held after the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting today. Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the session, meant for MPs and state assemblymen, would be conducted by the technical investigation committee, comprising police and representatives from the Occupational Safety and Health Department. This is to ensure that all elected representatives clearly understand the facts of the incident so as not to form any assumptions, he explained. 'The briefing will be held after tomorrow's sitting as most of the issues involved are technical. 'Once briefed, the matter can be brought up and debated in the state assembly,' he told reporters after launching the Plastic-Free Campaign 2025 Series 2 yesterday. Also present was state Public Health and Environment Committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin, Bernama reported. The Second Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Selangor State Legislative Assembly will be held from July 7 to 18. The gas pipeline fire on April 1 caused widespread destruction, affecting over 200 homes. It was reported that no elements of sabotage, foul play or negligence were found in connection with the underground Petronas gas pipeline blast. Following this, a special committee was set up to review the full investigation report and propose appropriate follow-up actions.

Selangor to discuss proposed vape sales ban at state govt council meeting
KUALA SELANGOR: The proposal to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes or vape in Selangor will be presented and discussed more thoroughly at the upcoming State Government Council meeting (MMKN), said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. He said Public Health and Environment Committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin had been instructed to do so following an integrated meeting held with the agencies involved. "I have instructed that a paper be made and presented for us to consider because any decision by the state government must be made comprehensively by looking at all aspects so that it can guarantee the health of current and future generations," he said. He said this at a press conference after the handover ceremony of the Raw Water Guarantee Scheme (SJAM) Package A and Package C Project here today. Earlier, Jamaliah in a statement announced that the integrated meeting with the Menteri Besar's Office involved the Selangor State Health Department, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry and the local authorities. According to Jamaliah, the meeting was held to obtain a comprehensive overview of the enforcement, legal and socio-economic aspects related to the sale of vape. On April 24, the media reported that the Terengganu state government will enforce a ban on the sale of electronic cigarette products at all premises in the state starting August 1.

Putra Heights fire: Selangor govt vows safe, transparent recovery
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government is committed to ensuring that all recovery processes for victims of the April 1 gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, are carried out transparently, safely, and responsibly. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government is in the process of obtaining a list of victims who are still undergoing treatment and may require intensive care, including surgery or skin grafts. He said, for this purpose, the state Public Health and Environment Committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin has been tasked with coordinating health assistance efforts with the hospitals involved. 'I believe that through concerted efforts between the state and federal governments, the victims will be able to rebuild their lives with greater confidence and dignity,' he said in a Facebook post. On April 23, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad reportedly said that 18 victims of the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights were still receiving treatment at health facilities. According to Dzulkefly, a total of 150 injured victims sought treatment at government and private hospitals on the day of the incident, April 1. The Petronas gas pipeline fire at 8.10 am on April 1 produced flames over 30 metres high with temperatures reaching 1,000 degrees Celsius and took nearly eight hours to be extinguished. The incident caused 81 homes to be completely destroyed, with structural damage exceeding 40 per cent, 81 homes partially damaged, 57 homes affected but not burned, and 218 homes left unaffected.
