Newbury leisure centre set for £3.1m energy efficiency refit
A leisure centre is set for a £3.1m refit to improve its energy by West Berkshire Council as a "major green upgrade" the revamp will see Northcroft Leisure Centre in Newbury fitted with air source heat pumps, new wall insulation and solar refit at the centre that has a 25m (82ft) main pool and smaller teaching pool, a gym, exercise studios and heated 50m (164ft) outdoor summer lido is set to start in 2026 and finish by March work is being paid for by a £2.8m grant from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme and an additional £387,000 from West Berkshire Council. Everyone Active, who manage the centre on the council's behalf, said the work would be carefully planned to minimise disruption for centre users. Egypt: EGX to halt business on June 26th, July 3rd
Arab Finance: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) will suspend trading on June 26 th and July 3 rd, in celebration of the Islamic New Year and the June 30 Revolution, according to a statement. Trading and business at both the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) and the EGX will resume on June 29 th and July 6 th. Hijri New Year: UAE announces paid holiday for private sector employees
Private sector employees in the UAE will get Friday, June 27, as a paid holiday for Islamic New Year, marking the beginning of the Hijri year 1447 AH. Some employees who get Saturday as a weekend along with Sunday will enjoy a long weekend from June 27 to June 29, making it a 3-day weekend for them. Regular working hours are expected to resume on Monday, June 30. Public sector employees will also get similar days of holidays. A unified holiday policy implemented in the UAE for public and private sector workers ensures all employees get equal breaks throughout the year. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) announcement applies to all private sector employees in the country. The Islamic, or Hijri, calendar is based on lunar months, and the New Year begins on the first day of Muharram, the calendar's first month. The date was confirmed in line with the approved list of official holidays for 2025, issued by the UAE Cabinet.
