Buddhist development plan to aid monastery restoration: Kiren Rijiju

, announced on Sunday that a Buddhist development plan will be launched to support the renovation and restoration of ancient monasteries.
He made the announcement while addressing a gathering in Keylong, Lahaul-Spiti, after laying the foundation stone for a sewage project under the Prime Minister's Public Welfare Programme.
Rijiju said that financial assistance will be provided to religious institutions that submit proposals for restoration work.
During his four-day tour from Shimla and Kalpa to Keylong, Rijiju observed that Lahaul-Spiti has received the highest allocation of funds from the ministry of minority affairs across the country.
He informed that the ministry approved Rs 200 crore for the Lahaul-Spiti district, and foundation stones for projects worth Rs 167 crore were already laid during his visit. Earlier, Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana welcomed the Union minister to Keylong.
The sewage project in Keylong is funded in a 90:10 financial ratio between the central and state govts. Under this project, a modern sewage system will be developed in Keylong at a cost of Rs 26.75 crore, which will benefit around 9,600 people in Keylong and Billing village.
