Sheriff's office investigating woman's death in jail custody
The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 32-year-old woman who was in custody at the Pueblo County Jail Tuesday, June 24.
The inmate was found unresponsive in her cell Tuesday afternoon, according to a news release from the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office.
Life-saving measures were initiated by deputies and jail medical personnel and were continued by Pueblo Fire and American Medical Response personnel.
The woman was transported to a local hospital with a weak heartbeat, but was later pronounced deceased, according to the release.
A preliminary investigation indicates there were no signs of foul play. The woman had been in jail just a little more than 24 hours.
The Pueblo County Coroner will release the name of the inmate and the cause and manner ofdeath, according to the sheriff's office. No additional information was released late in the evening June 24.
