Pralhad Joshi inaugurates BESS in Bengaluru; ₹5,400 cr additional VGF coming soon
Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy , Pralhad Joshi , on Friday inaugurated a Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) manufacturing facility in the Bidadi Industrial Area, Bengaluru. With an annual manufacturing capacity of 5 GWh, this facility stands as one of the largest and most advanced BESS plants in the nation. The newly inaugurated facility has a fully automated cell-to-pack assembly line, signaling a move towards precision-driven, high-quality production with minimal human intervention. This advanced manufacturing capability is expected to significantly contribute to grid stability, facilitate renewable energy integration, manage peak demand, and aid in frequency regulation. During the inauguration, Minister Joshi emphasised the critical role of reliable energy storage in achieving India's ambitious target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. "As more renewable energy comes into our grid, having reliable storage is more important than ever," he stated. Further demonstrating the government's commitment to energy storage, Minister Joshi announced plans to roll out an additional ₹5,400 crore as viability gap funding (VGF) to support the establishment of 30 GWh of battery storage systems. This new allocation comes on top of the existing ₹3,700 crore under the current VGF scheme, which has already facilitated the implementation of 13.2 GWh of BESS projects. "As India rolls out the VGF scheme for battery storage and works with stakeholders across sectors to grow the storage market, having world-class manufacturing like this will be very important," the minister remarked. "It will help meet rising demand, reduce imports, and make our power grid more efficient. Our renewable capacity is growing fast: we are adding 25–30 GW every year." Highlighting the immense potential of the sector, Minister Joshi cited the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA), which projects the country's energy storage sector to attract a staggering ₹4.79 lakh crore investment by 2032. Furthermore, the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) estimates a project requirement of 411.4 GWh of energy storage systems by 2032, comprising 175.18 GWh from Pumped Storage Projects (PSP) and 236.22 GWh from BESS. "I believe that India can become a global manufacturing hub for BESS, from batteries and inverters to software and control systems," Minister Joshi added. "Between 2022 and 2032, India plans to add over 47 GW of battery storage capacity, with a total investment of around ₹3.5 lakh crore."

Adani Energy Solutions wins Rs 1660 cr inter-state transmission project in Maharashtra
Adani Energy Solutions (AESL) has won a Rs 1,660 crore inter-state transmission project in Maharashtra. The project scope includes establishment of 3,000 Mega Volt-Amperes (MVA) of substations capacity, besides other related transmission infrastructure, taking AESL's overall transmission network to 26,696 ckm and 93,236 MVA of transformation capacity. AESL is scheduled to commission the project by January 2028. The project, housed under the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) WRNES Talegaon Power Transmission Ltd, will help evacuate 1.5 GW of green power from upcoming hydro Pumped Storage Projects (PSP) in the region and will help meet demand from Mumbai and surrounding areas. The project SPV was formally transferred to AESL today. AESL won this Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) project under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) mechanism, and REC Power Development and Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) was the bid process coordinator. With this order win, AESL's transmission orderbook now stands at Rs ~61,600 crore.

Adani Energy Solutions secures Rs 1,660 crore transmission project in Maharashtra to boost green power evacuation
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], May 30 (ANI): Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) announced on Friday that it has won a significant Rs 1,660 crore inter-state transmission project in Maharashtra. The project aims to facilitate green energy evacuation from the Raigad region. AESL is a private-sector transmission and distribution company and part of the Adani Group. The project, awarded under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) mechanism and coordinated by REC Power Development and Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL), will be implemented through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) named WRNES Talegaon Power Transmission Ltd, which has now been formally transferred to AESL, the company said in a release. The transmission project involves creating 3,000 megavolt-amperes (MVA) of substation capacity and associated infrastructure. It is expected to be commissioned by January 2028, it said. Once completed, the project will support the evacuation of 1.5 GW of green power from upcoming hydro Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) in the region, catering to the growing electricity demand in Mumbai and adjoining areas. This latest contract win takes AESL's overall transmission network to 26,696 circuit kilometers (ckm) and transformation capacity to 93,236 MVA. More notably, it boosts the company's transmission order book to approximately Rs 61,600 crore. 'The development underlines AESL's growing role in India's energy transition, as it continues to expand its footprint in sustainable infrastructure while contributing to the country's renewable energy goals,' the AESL release added. The Adani Group company also showed strong growth of 42 per cent (year-on-year) in its total income at ₹24,447 crore in FY25, which is the highest ever is driven by the contributions from the recently commissioned transmission projects, robust energy sales in Mumbai and Mundra utilities and contribution from the smart metering business. During the March quarter, the company secured two new transmission projects -- Navinal (Mundra) Phase I Part B1 and Mahan Transmission Ltd.
