Simple M&S wedding guest dress that's less than £50 had my friends shocked over where it's from

Simple M&S wedding guest dress that's less than £50 had my friends shocked over where it's from Fashion writer Eve Rowlands wore a simple black dress to a wedding recently and, with its bubble hem, elegant high neck and open back, friends couldn't believe it was from Marks and Spencer Fashion writer Eve Rowlands wore the M&S dress to a recent wedding and received many compliments For those who are at that age where it seems everyone they know is getting married, we're in the thick of wedding season. Personally, I have eight this year, and so naturally, in a bid to find one or two new dresses (to wear on rotation), I found myself scouring the shops for the ideal wedding guest dress. Now this dress had to be versatile enough for numerous occasions, yet sleek enough for a wedding, and comfortable during the warmer months, all while maintaining an air of sophistication. And on a recent visit to my local M&S (Culverhouse Cross), I stumbled upon a dress that, despite its simplicity, took my breath away - and is less than £50. This black number was a somewhat last-minute buy for my third wedding of the season, but it proved to be a wise choice as it garnered plenty of compliments - and my friends were gobsmacked to learn it was from M&S. Priced at £49.50, the Pure Cotton Bubble Hem Midaxi Dress is a classic and simple - yet effective - design. One that may seem unremarkable on the hanger, it truly comes to life when worn. Its bold hue is striking, and its high neckline and drop-waist design allow for a plethora of accessory options. However, its silhouette, which has a hint of volume at the bottom, is the real showstopper, in my view, reports Chronicle Live. The gathered skirt features a bubble hem at the bottom, adding a delightful fullness and significant swish. An added perk is the concealed pockets - a practical feature for touching up my lippy throughout the day. Moreover, the pockets are cleverly hidden within the skirt's volume, ensuring they don't look bulky (unless overfilled...). Shop the look £49.50 Marks and Spencer Buy Now on Marks and Spencer Product Description The Pure Cotton Bubble Hem Midaxi Dress by Marks and Spencer is made from pure cotton and comes in petite, regular and tall lengths. The dress's bodice is fitted and sleeveless, and it gracefully contours the stomach area, giving a smooth and flattering finish (covering up any lumps and bumps along the way). It also incorporates darts for a structured shape and added support. The rear of the dress features a gorgeous cut-out detail, adding style while providing ample ventilation during hot weather. Crucially, the opening finishes just above the bra-line, meaning I could wear a bra without the straps being visible. Available in three different lengths, the dress accommodates a variety of body shapes and sizes, ranging from size 6 to 24. However, one tip is that it tends to run slightly small - a fact I discovered alongside other shoppers - so opting for a larger size may be a bit more comfortable. The Pure Cotton Bubble Hem Midaxi Dress costs £49.50 from Marks & Spencer (Image: Marks and Spencer ) Once I discovered my perfect size, I can vouch for its performance: it's comfortable while dancing, eating, sitting and strutting around all day. The dress also includes a lining which ensures it hangs well and feels comfortable due to its 100% cotton composition without allowing dreaded overheating. This breathable fabric proved particularly effective in warm weather, keeping me cool and dry. I recently donned this stunning dress to a black tie event, complementing it with bold red accessories like pointed court shoes and a charming red rose adorned £15 handbag from Amazon among other items. The dress was a hit. But with the right pieces, it also lends itself well to a more relaxed vibe, perfectly paired with my adored Blaire Dr Martens sandals and a denim jacket for casual days out. For those who are fond of bubble skirts yet prefer something with more of a relaxed feel, the Albaray Black Puffball Dress, retailing at £89, is has a comfy scoop neckline and ribbed jersey on the upper half. Another great option is the Nancy Bubble Hem Midi Dress by Nobody's Child, currently a bargain at £59.50 in the sale, down from the usual price tag of £85. As for the M&S dress, I'm not the only one who fell head over heels for it. With a 4.2-star rating from 19 reviews, it's been well received amongst fashion fans. One person wrote: "Couldn't resist this dress despite having to try on several sizes before finding the best fit (it's on the small side). The design quality becomes apparent once on with a drop waist, great if you are tall and long in the body, and the bubble hem. It's also nicely lined, and the cut-out back still enables you to wear a bra. Please continue to provide such design quality, please, M&S." Someone else raved: "Absolutely love this dress! Super cool look. Love it!!" A third remarked: "I honestly felt beautiful in it as it really flattered my figure. It's a modest yet elegantly casual dress I feel I could wear both casually and formally." Another echoed: "Stunning dress with a beautiful skirt shape and flattering bodice. Fresh summer weight cotton." Article continues below The main gripe amongst shoppers was the sizing issue, but once sized up, for many it was the perfect fit. The Pure Cotton Bubble Hem Midaxi Dress can be found in Marks and Spencer for £49.50.

Well made, skirt is lined, looks great dressed up with heels for a night or with flats for a day out." A second wrote: "Absolutely love this dress! Super cool loo. Love it!!" Meanwhile, another shopper praised the design and said: " honestly felt beautiful in it as it really flattered my figure. "Stunning dress with a beautiful skirt shape and flattering bodice. Fresh summer weight cotton," another agreed. Others warned that the sizing of the dress runs slightly small though, as one said: "This is a gorgeous dress but comes up small. Take a size bigger than usual." But the stunning dress isn't the only reason to dash to your nearest store, there are plenty of other summer wardrobe staples too. The gorgeous Linen Rich Maxi A-Line Skirt can be also dressed up or down, making it a staple for spring and summer - and the best part is it's only £35. Not only that, but the popular skirt comes in two trendy colours, black and tomato, so there's something for everyone. "It's cut in a flattering A-line shape, with a flowing maxi-length hem. Shirring on the waistband adds pretty detail and ensures a comfortable wear," Marks & Spencer bosses said. So, it's no surprise the skirt has an impressive average rating of 4.6 out of a possible five stars. Hottest fashion trends of 2025 Fabulous' Fashion Editor Clemmie Fieldsend shares the biggest trends from the high street. The East/West Bag Baguette bags have had a good run, after returning from the 1990s' shoulders of Sarah Jessica Parker to modern-day fashion icons, like Hailey Bieber. In 2025, the East/West bag is a similar but elongated shape and has long, thin straps that are easy to throw over your shoulder. They've been on runway models' arms at nearly ever designer show - think Burberry, Givenchy and Bottega Veneta - and are hitting the high street now, too. Powder pink Bright fuchsia pink had its day after the release of Barbie in 2023 and now the more polished and expensive-looking pale shade is taking over for 2025. Pantone may say that it's the year of Mocha Mousse, but the catwalks say otherwise! From Prada to Erdem, the subtle look was all over the spring/summer catwalks, worn head-to-toe or on its own. If the sugary shade is too girly for you, then look to sharp suiting for a androgynous take on the colour. The shell jacket The '80s classic is back, but with a sleek and minimal new twist for 2025. We all know we're likely to see rain for most of spring, so your practical coat of choice should be a cagoule jacket. Depop revealed one of its big trend predictions for this year is retro sportswear, with surges already seen in '80s windbreakers'. Seen everywhere from the stylish streets of Copenhagen to the Miu Miu catwalk, now mums who have an emergency raincoat crumpled underneath their pushchair are very much in fashion! The turn-up jeans While the shape of jeans remains the same for this year and barrel-legs will still be everywhere, the way we're styling them is different. This season, transform your wide-leg, baggy denims into turn-ups. For this look, size doesn't matter, so while deep turn-ups are a hit from jean trend-leaders Citizens of Humanity, a slight fold is still just as good - but only as it's just one single fold. Peep-toe shoe Get your pedicures booked in sharpish, as this season your toes are the main event. After a long hiatus, the peep-toe has been welcomed back into the fashion fold, with brands like Hermes, Miu Miu and Tory Burch showing plain and embellished footwear in this style. From mules to pumps and clogs (yes, clogs will be around too!), there are lots of different styles that are set to sweep the high street. Sheer blouses See-through looks have always lived on the catwalk, but have rarely filtered into everyday life - until now. Designers Ralph Lauren and Tom Ford loved sheer looks on their S/S '25 catwalks and M&S even had sellout success with its black sheer pencil skirt last season. Expect to see more sheer looks lining supermarket aisles and high street shops in the form of skirts, tops and frocks.

Beat the heat wherever you are this summer with these affordable cooling towels you can take anywhere. Amidst the mini-heatwave, many of us have been looking for ways to keep cool. Even as scorching temperatures are set to end soon, we still have summer to get through. So, whether you are on holiday, or the UK weather heats up once more, you might need something to help keep cool. Which is exactly why these Sukeen Cooling Towels have been branded a "lifesaver" in Amazon reviews. To help ensure you don't overheat, these reusable towels have been crafted from a breathable, hyper-evaporative mesh material that boast cooling benefits and get activated when you simply run it under some water and wring it out. With their "moisture wicking" materials, they work to remove excess body heat and can absorb body surface sweat, making them perfect for when you are struggling to keep cool in sizzling climates. As shoppers say the unique cooling effect "lasts for hours", you won't need to constantly be soaking the towel in water to cool down. It can also be worn multiple ways, making it ideal for the gym, on holiday, by the beach, or even when working outdoors in the sun. Since they all come with their own carry pouch, you don't need to worry about losing them, or little ones leaving them about the house. A similar review read: "These towels are fantastic. They really help me and my sons keep cool in this very hot weather we now have in the UK. Great value for money and they come with a handy, sealable bag each to keep them in. Highly recommend." Weekend Wishlist: 11 fashion, beauty and payday picks our shopping writers are loving

Treat yourself to one (or several) of our favourite items this week from M&S, Glow Recipe and more For many of us, payday has finally arrived — and if your group chat is anything like ours, it's already buzzing with shopping links, holiday inspo, and last-minute wedding guest picks. Whether you're jetting off somewhere sunny or RSVP'ing to every event in sight, there's no better time to treat yourself to something new. Our Weekend Wishlist is a mix of tried-and-tested faves — like this ultra-flattering black dress shopping writer Eve recently wore to a wedding (yes, she looked amazing) — and fresh finds we're obsessing over. That includes the new Skin Rocks moisturiser and a dreamy Pour Moi bikini sported by A-lister Salma Hayek. Basically, we've done the scrolling, so you don't have to. So, without further ado, here are the must-have items we're lusting after this week. Eve's picks: M&S Pure Cotton Bubble Hem Midaxi Dress - £49.50 Never underestimate the power of a little black dress. I recently bought this gorgeous iteration from M&S for a wedding, having fallen in love with its simple yet effective silhouette. It exceeded all my expectations and garnered me way more compliments than I would have thought. Of course, with the right accessories, a dress can be transformed from dull to delicious, but this Pure Cotton Bubble Hem Midaxi Dress has subtle details that elevate its look with ease and my figure, too. It's got a puffy, voluminous bubble skirt and a cut-out back that is super flattering. A drop waist glides over any tummy problem areas, while the sleeveless design is perfect for warmer days. With a breathable lining underneath, it falls nicely, and the skirt is wonderfully swishy as you move. At £49.50, it's a cheaper option for a wedding guest dress, and while some may see the block colour of black as somewhat boring, it's essentially a chic, classy and elegant blank canvas with which you can create a stunning look. While I loved dressing this dress up for a recent black-tie wedding, it can also be dressed down by popping a graphic tee over the top and pairing it with some trainers. My only gripe is that it comes up a little small, so for a comfortable fit, it's best to size up. Lookfantastic's monthly subscription - £15 Worth £55, April's box costs £15 for shoppers that want to buy it as a one-off or, if you sign up for a monthly rolling subscription for 12 months, it's only £13. Containing six products - and sometimes seven if the brand includes a complimentary gift, as it often does (beating that of Glossybox's five products per month for £13.50) - the box is perfect for those who love trying out new products or simply wish to switch up your beauty routine. April's box is packed full of skincare goodies that'll leave your face, hands, body and scalp feeling super hydrated. Plus, it contains a product that MUAs and beauty buffs swear by for cleaning their brushes. Lauren's picks: Phlur Rose Whip Perfume - £99 I love trying out new perfumes, but I keep returning to Phlur. The cool-girl brand, which I've featured in several Weekend Wishlists in the past, has become one of my top fragrance faves, thanks to its playful, flirty scents and chic bottles that look seriously good on my dressing table. The new fragrance to join the line-up is Rose Whip — a floral-forward blend laced with black currant and osmanthus and grounded by a musky base for a modern twist. I'm already a fan of rose perfumes (Miller Harris' Rose Silence is a longtime love of mine), and Rose Whip hits all the right notes. It's sweet and feminine without being saccharine, with a warm depth that gives it a flirty, alluring edge. Ideal for date nights or evenings out, it's the type of scent that turns heads — literally. I've had a handful of compliments while wearing it, including one from a cashier at Aldi who stopped me mid-checkout to ask what perfume I was wearing. Plus, the wear time is solid, lingering for a few hours without being overpowering. There's also a cheaper travel-size version for easy top-ups on the go. Skin & Tan Face Glow Advanced Hydrating SPF & Tan Cream - £20 Now that the sun's out, I've taken to applying fake tan on the regular — I happily embrace my pale skin during the winter, but there's just something about a golden glow that makes me feel more confident come the warmer months. Skin & Tan has been on my radar for a while (its setting mist is a serious game-changer), so I was keen to get my hands on its latest launch: the Glow Advanced Hydrating SPF & Tan Cream. This 3-in-1 multitasker is designed to slot into your daily routine with ease, acting as a daily moisturiser, offering essential sun protection and delivering a gradual tan that looks natural and sun-kissed. On first application, I'll admit I had a few doubts — the formula is on the thicker side — but it rubbed in surprisingly quickly, with no ghostly white cast. It did leave my skin feeling a touch sticky, but nothing too off-putting. It also smells like a soft hint of holiday - think subtle coconut and sunshine — and I noticed my face felt more hydrated after use. As for the tan itself, it took a few days to show itself but the results were worth the wait. A healthy, glowing, just-back-from-the-beach kind of colour that made me look instantly more refreshed. Sure, it's not the lightest texture I've tried, but at £20, it's a solid budget-friendly option if you're after an everyday SPF that gives a gradual, healthy tan without the hassle. Reef's Vista Hi Buckle Sandals - £70 Praise be! It's finally time to dig out the sandals and put away the chunky boots. Every summer, I like to treat myself to a new pair of sandals — and this year, I'm excited to introduce these Reef iterations to my rotation. With their vegan-friendly, leather brown straps (very much the colour of the season) and round buckle detail, they tick the stylish box instantly. But it's their comfort factor that's truly sealed the deal for me. I've been wearing these cushioned sandals out and about over the past couple of weeks, and besides a couple of minor blisters on my little toes during the break-in period (par of the course), they've been pain-free. They're comfy straight out of the box, with no stiffness or awkward rubbing, and I've managed some decent walks in them without any complaints. The adjustable strap ensures a true-to-size fit, keeping my tootsies secure all day long. The subtle platform footbed adds a bit of height — enough to feel slightly dressier, whether I'm pairing them with a linen dress or wide-leg jeans. Priority Pass Airport Lounge Access - £48 from £69 With Easter now a distant memory, it's time to start getting excited about those sun-soaked summer getaways. Whether you've already booked your trip or are just beginning to plan, the countdown to holiday fun has officially started, and payday seems the perfect time to organise a trip in style. Granted, sitting in a bustling departure hall at the airport isn't exactly the slimmest way to start a trip, but Priority Pass is currently offering a 30% discount on airport lounge access. This will allow travellers to enjoy chic spaces away from the crowds, complete with complimentary snacks, drinks, WiFi, and comfortable seating. This deal will help flyers feel like they're travelling first-class without breaking the bank. Hidden away from the busy terminal waiting areas, visitors can enjoy some peaceful refreshments, queue-free bathroom facilities and WiFi for work or leisure. Whether you're travelling for business and need a quiet spot to work or simply looking for a stress-free airport experience, these lounges are a game-changer—and this discount makes them even more appealing. Pour Moi's Free Spirit Bikini - £22-£36 Keeping with the summer theme here — because let's face it, what's a summer getaway without a little swimwear refresh? — holiday-goers will no doubt be on the hunt for a new bikini to make their social media snaps pop. With that in mind, Pour Moi has delivered this season with a gorgeous range of styles (some of which have been spotted on actress Salma Hayek, no less). One standout is this bright orange bikini, which is practically made for golden hour selfies. It's playful and chic, with flirty frill detailing and flattering shirred fabric. Its removable straps mean it can be worn as a bandeau when working on your tan or as a classic strappy top for more support. Meanwhile, its hidden underwired cups add subtle shaping, while a clasp fastening makes it easy to get on and off. Note that the bikini top and briefs are sold separately and priced at £36 and £22, respectively. Tiffany's picks: Skin Rocks The Light Moisturiser - £58 When skincare expert Caroline Hirons hinted at a new product launch, fans were over the moon. The Light Moisturiser, dubbed 'light as air', offers barrier-supporting benefits and long-term hydration. It retails at £58, the same price as the original. Ideal for combination, oily or blemish-prone skin types, The Light Moisturiser is clinically proven to increase hydration by up to 141% after one hour based on an independent clinical study of 52 participants. A daily use of the cream for four weeks helps reduce red spots by up to 51% after one week and increases skin elasticity by up to 53% after four weeks. With a significant portion of the UK population experiencing vitamin D deficiency, the cream is formulated with pro-vitamin D3 to boost vitamin D production, support long-term skin health, and promote optimal barrier function. Feedback has been positive, as fans say it "absorbs instantly and leaves skin feeling plump and smooth with no breakouts." M&S Per Una Denim Quilted Gilet - £49.50 Quilted jackets are many fashion lovers' go-to lightweight spring jackets, and M&S has given the style a twist. This Per Una Denim Quilted Gilet is a style icon, and I have been enjoying wearing it along with the Per Una Lyocell Drawstring wide-leg trousers. The padding at the back keeps you warm, and the sleeveless design gives you room for movement. The matching belt can cinch the waist for a slimmer silhouette. However, the jacket doesn't have buttons, so you'll have to use the belt to keep it closed. Otherwise, you can consider Boden's Denim Quilted Gilet —currently reduced to £73.50 from £98. Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist - £20.80, was £25 Known for its glow-giving products that boost hydration in the skin, Glow Recipe has launched a new product that beauty buffs can take along with them anywhere. Following the global success of its Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops, the K beauty-inspired brand is giving us the Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist—a handbag-friendly mist to quench your skin's thirst whenever needed. Simply shake and spritz; the sweet watermelon scent will instantly refresh and hydrate. And unlike others on the market, the juicy blend of watermelon, hyaluronic acid, and hibiscus AHAs keeps skin plump and glowy without stripping it of moisture. If fragrance is a concern, Curel's Deep Moisture Spray, £13, offers similar skin benefits without any scent or fragrance. Anua Heartleaf 77% Toner - £15.99 When it comes to skincare, many will look into the active ingredients that matter most to their skin, and sensitive and irritated skin users might have heard about Anua's popular Heartleaf 77% Toner. Glass skin is fading out in 2025, but in comes the 'Butter Skin' trend—a softer and more natural glow than the high-shine radiance. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory and hydrating properties, heartleaf extract keeps the skin balanced. The formula is mild, and it clears deep within pores, including stubborn blackheads and whiteheads, after continued use. The Anua toner is also loved by K-pop star Suho, the leader of boy band EXO.
