'It's clear. Prasidh Krishna will have to go out': Jasprit Bumrah's Lord's return to reduce Gautam Gambhir's 'headache'
It's usually very rare for a team to tweak a winning combination, but India may just break the pattern heading into the third Test against England at the iconic Lord's Cricket Stadium starting Thursday. Jasprit Bumrah's impending return after missing the Edgbaston Test gives India a much-needed boost and perhaps covers the only weakness in the team – a threatening third pacer. After Bumrah's one-man show at Leeds, it felt as if India would be in for a tough time in Edgbaston, but the way they responded in Birmingham covered all the remaining bases. Mohammed Siraj picked up a six-wicket haul in the first innings before Akash Deep scalped six of his own in the second to hand India a resounding 336-run win. However, the only pacer that struggled was Prasidh Krishna, leaking 72 runs without taking a wicket. Prasidh Krishna, left, is likely to make way for Jasprit Bumrah at Lord's(PTI) Also Read: 'I will sponsor business class ticket for Prasidh Krishna to return to India' - Pacer hammered by fans after horror show Heading into the mecca of cricket, Team India had only one worrying factor – Prasidh's form – but Bumrah's return all but takes care of it. During a show on Sports Tak, when the legendary Sunil Gavaskar was asked how India would tackle this 'headache' of sorting their bowling combination out, the former captain's take was simple. That it wasn't a headache for head coach Gautam Gambhir, at least no longer -and that is because there's no two ways that Prasidh must make way for the returning Bumrah. Also Read: Gill blunt on whether Bumrah will play Lord's Test after Akash, Siraj run riot, says 'Jab do bowlers 17 wickets lete hain...' "I think it's clear. Prasidh Krishna has to go out because, in the first innings, he was a bit expensive. Even in Leeds, although he got a few wickets, he really didn't look like he was going to break through. With Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj, you've seen the number of top-class deliveries that they've bowled. And they might not have gotten wickets – the batters played and missed, and the ball rapped them on the pads. It has to be Prasidh because his length wasn't quite right. I believe he will make way for Bumrah," Gavaskar said on Sports Tak. What's ailing Prasidh Krishna Prasidh has yet to fully discover his rhythm in Tests for India. Once he's taken four-wicket hauls in five Tests – at Leeds, but hasn't looked threatening, with either new ball or old. Prasidh has had his lingering issues with injuries, but his knack of giving away runs proves to be a huge detriment in his career, especially with more pacers waiting on the sidelines. Not too long ago, Prasidh emerged as the leading wicket-taker in IPL 2025, winning the Purple Cap with 25 wickets from 15 matches with the Gujarat Titans, but while his white-ball credentials are far superior, it's the Test matches and challenging countries where he has yet to hit the top gear. Even in Australia, where Prasidh grabbed three wickets each in Sydney, he was plagued with the same issue, of a higher economy rate of 5.41 in the second innings. One can argue that in Birmingham, he might have been bowling as short as per the plan, but even then, to go wicketless when Akash Deep and Siraj combined to take 10 proves that he may not be persisted with once Bumrah returns.

Why is Prasidh Krishna part of the India squad for England Test tour 2025?
The Indian cricket team is currently on a tour of England for a five-match Test series, where they are trailing 0-1 after losing the first game at Leeds by five wickets due to sub-par bowling, with pacer Prasidh Krishna facing the most amount of heat. Krishna's troubles did not end in the first Test, as he was once again the most expensive bowler for India in the firrst innings second Test at Edgbaston, which left the fans fuming. The internet shredded the pacer apart, calling him one of the worst bowlers of all time. Some even questioned his credibility for selection on this tour. Krishna did perform extremely well in the latest edition of the IPL and won the Purple Cap, which did play a big role in his selection. But is that all, or is there a bigger picture behind his selection that fans are overlooking due to his recent performances? Let's take a look. Why are fans angry with Prasidh Krishna? Krishna took a total of five wickets in the match (3 in the first innings and 2 in the second innings), which makes him decent as far as his job of wicket-taking is concerned. But the real issue was the number of runs he leaked. In the first innings, he bowled 20 overs and conceded 128 runs with an economy rate of 6.40, while in the second innings he bowled 15 overs and gave away 92 runs at an economy rate of 6.29. Krishna himself addressed the issue after the match, saying he did not bowl the line he wanted to and ended up leaking runs, which proved costly for the team. Fans expected him to do better after his admission, but things went from bad to worse in the first innings of the second Test, where he bowled 13 overs and conceded 72 runs at an economy rate of 5.5 while also having no wickets to show for it. This triggered fan anger, making him the latest victim of internet trolling. Krishna's journey in international cricket While the anger of fans towards Prasidh Krishna can be somewhat justified, it would be harsh to dismiss his selection based solely on his recent performance. Krishna started his international career on March 23, 2021, in an ODI game against England in Pune. In his very first match, he made an impact by picking four wickets and helping India win the game with ease. Prasidh then made his T20I debut against Ireland, where he picked four wickets in two matches, proving his worth in white-ball cricket. However, the greatest moment of Krishna's international journey came during India's tour of South Africa in 2023–24, where he was called a promising prospect for the future of Indian cricket before being handed his debut Test cap by then head coach Rahul Dravid. Krishna failed to perform in that series and took only two wickets in two matches before being sidelined due to injury. He once again got the chance to don the white jersey for India during the Test against Australia in Sydney earlier this year, where he was the team's top wicket-taker with six wickets. Although India lost the game, Krishna proved he is still someone the team can bank on. He even received incredible praise from Virat Kohli back in 2021 when Kohli was leading the Indian side. Kohli said having bowlers like Krishna, who can extract bounce and bowl with pace, is a luxury for any captain. Incredible numbers in IPL Krishna has incredible numbers in the IPL, where he has 74 wickets in 66 matches, which is very impressive. In the 2025 IPL, he picked 25 wickets, which won him the Purple Cap (awarded to the highest wicket-taker in the season) and was one of the reasons behind Gujarat Titans' brilliant run in the group stage. His performance in the IPL also earned him praise from cricket experts all around. So much so, Aakash Chopra went ahead and compared him with Josh Hazlewood of Australia, saying, 'You see slingers, you see swingers, you see all kinds of bowlers in a sense. But you don't see a guy hitting the length ball after ball, ball after ball. And he's tall, high arm action, hits the sticker of the bat, and doesn't do anything else.' Krishna just need game time While Prasidh Krishna's sub-par economy rate can be infuriating at times, the pace has almost always been accompanied by wickets—and his records clearly state that. Krishna has: 13 wickets in 8 Test matches 29 wickets in 17 ODI matches 8 wickets in 5 T20I matches 74 wickets in 66 IPL matches 52 wickets in 13 Ranji Trophy matches 74 wickets in 41 matches in Vijay Hazare Trophy These numbers prove he is a genuine wicket-taker at all levels of cricket. With enough game time under his belt, Krishna can prove himself to be one of the best pacers the nation has ever produced. However, given that India is currently going through a phase of transition, he also has to start delivering wickets consistently to become a regular member of the side.

India "Definitely Working On" This Area After 1st Test Loss To England, Reveals Prasidh Krishna
India's lower-order batters have left a lot to be desired with their failures in the first Test against England and seamer Prasidh Krishna says they are "putting in the work" at nets to come out better prepared for the second game in Birmingham. India's lower order caved in without a fight in both innings which proved decisive in the final outcome. The visitors lost their last seven wickets for 41 runs in the first innings to be bowled out for 471, and in the second essay, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh -- all fell for ducks -- as India lost their last six wickets for 32 runs. "As the lower-order batsmen, we definitely are working on... If you look at our net sessions, we are putting in the work. "I think it is about putting your mind in there as well, making sure you trust yourself, trust the skill that you have and be there at the crease for a little longer. And then the numbers and the runs are going to show, and we are working towards it," Prasidh said during a press conference. Runs from the lower order and tail will be welcome as India look to restore parity after losing the series opener by five wickets at Headingley. New skipper Shubman Gill's captaincy in his first Test at the helm received mixed reviews from former players. "About Shubman, yeah, I think he did a pretty good job. All of us saw how he rotated the bowlers, made sure everybody had enough breaks, brought in people at the right kind of spells," IPL 'Purple Cap' winner Prasidh said. "He saw opportunities and brought in the right kind of bowlers. All of that was great. And knowing him, he set a very good atmosphere around. He's been speaking to all of us. We always go in with a plan and the communication is happening there," he added. Gill succeeded Rohit Sharma as captain of the Indian Test team after the latter announced his retirement few days before Virat Kohli too decided to bring the curtains down on his illustrious career in the game's traditional format. The second match of the five-Test series begins here at Edgbaston from July 2.

India's tailenders toiling away in nets, Shubman Gill ‘speaking to all of us', says Prasidh Krishna after 1st Test debacle
Among the major factors that contributed in India losing the first Test against England at Headingley was a rather stunning late collapse in the second innings, with their last three batters all falling for ducks. This, coupled with the fact that they accounted for just a combined four runs in the first innings, put India's rather long tail under the spotlight. Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has now said that the tailenders are now putting in the work with the bat in the nets. 'As the lower-order batsmen, we definitely are working on… If you look at our net sessions, we are putting in the work,' Krishna told reporters on Saturday. 'I think it is about putting your mind in there as well, making sure you trust yourself, trust the skill that you have and be there at the crease for a little longer. And then the numbers and the runs are going to show, and we are working towards it. India lost the series opener at Headingley by five wickets despite having five centurions, with two tons scored by Rishabh Pant alone, and a five-wicket haul for Jasprit Bumrah. New captain Shubman Gill's ability to establish his authority was brought up by a few commentators when it looked like KL Rahul and Pant were among senior players setting fields during the second half of the second session on Day 5. Krishna said that Gill did a very good job with rotating his bowlers and is in conversation with them. 'About Shubman, yeah, I think he did a pretty good job. All of us saw how he rotated the bowlers, made sure everybody had enough breaks, brought in people at the right kind of spells,' IPL 'Purple Cap' winner Prasidh said. 'He saw opportunities and brought in the right kind of bowlers. All of that was great. And knowing him, he set a very good atmosphere around. He's been speaking to all of us. We always go in with a plan and the communication is happening there,' he added.
