Kota MADANI project strategic for civil servants, says Dr Zaliha
KUALA LUMPUR: The Kota MADANI project is not cosmetic or politically motivated, but a strategic initiative to ensure the well-being of civil servants who are the backbone of the country's administration, says Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa. She said according to the Auditor-General's Report (LKAN) on the Management of Putrajaya's Development in 2021, Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd (PJHSB) was required to build 35,000 units of government quarters in Putrajaya, but currently, only 22,452 units had been built while the remainder had yet to be developed. Dr Zaliha said records from the Property Management Division (BPH) as of June 15 showed that 17,366 civil servants were still on the waiting list for government quarters, compared to only 1,449 vacant units. 'As such, to meet this demand, the government has planned the development of Kota MADANI, which involves the construction of 10,000 new government quarters. 'This development will directly benefit around 10,000 civil servants and will be implemented on 102 acres (41.27 hectares) of land in Precinct 19, Putrajaya,' she said in a written reply uploaded on the Parliament website on Tuesday (July 22). She was responding to a question from Datuk Dr Alias Razak (PN-Kuala Nerus), who asked about the basis for the selection and direction of the Kota MADANI pilot project and the government's plans to ensure that it would not merely be a cosmetic project with no real benefit to the people. Elaborating further, Dr Zaliha said the Kota MADANI concept went beyond merely providing housing and served as a model of urban development founded on pedestrian-friendly, inclusive, integrated, sustainable, and humane characteristics. In line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI, she said planned public facilities would include schools, mosques, nurseries, gyms and community spaces located in close proximity to support a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. 'Kota MADANI is not a luxurious or elitist project, but one based on real needs. For the record, the concepts of compact development and vertical development have been part of Putrajaya's long-term planning since 1998, but have only now been realised through the Kota MADANI project,' she said. - Bernama

Anwar Champions Kota MADANI As Model For Modern, Values-Based Living
Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has described the Kota MADANI project as more than a housing initiative for civil servants, framing it as a holistic urban development rooted in the principles of Malaysia MADANI. Speaking during his monthly address to staff at the Prime Minister's Department, Anwar stressed that the RM4 billion project is not just about providing homes, but about creating a well-planned, liveable city that integrates essential infrastructure such as schools, mosques, playgrounds and gyms. 'This is not an ordinary housing project. We are offering an extraordinary comfort level. Everything is taken into consideration – from schools to mosques to recreational facilities – all in one modern city built on MADANI values,' he said. Launched on 26 June, the Kota MADANI development in Precinct 19, Putrajaya is being driven as a people- and eco-friendly smart city. The first phase is scheduled to begin construction in September and is expected to complete by end-2027. Spanning 10,000 high-density residential units to accommodate more than 30,000 people, the development will also feature a secondary school and various public amenities. It is being undertaken by Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd (PjH) under a public-private partnership model – build, lease, maintain and transfer (BLMT) – without initial government expenditure. Anwar defended the project against politically motivated criticism, urging the public and civil service to view it as a long-term initiative designed with fiscal prudence and managerial capability through Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPj). Anwar urges civil servants to back Kota Madani plan
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged civil servants to support the Kota Madani housing initiative. "Recently, we launched Kota Madani and as usual, the issue has become the target of political attacks. "I truly do not understand why it cannot be supported, especially when it does not place a direct burden on the government. "This is why I ask civil servants to consider this carefully and support the concept, as many are uncomfortable with it, perhaps representing other contractors or other interests," he said in his speech during the monthly assembly. Last week Anwar launched the Kota Madani development project in Precinct 19. It is a mega initiative conceptualised as a smart city that is both people-friendly and environmentally conscious. The RM4 billion project will be developed by Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd (PjH) through a public-private partnership model based on the build, lease, maintain and transfer (BLMT) concept, without involving any government allocation in the initial phase. Kota Madani will feature 10,000 high-density residential quarters capable of housing more than 30,000 residents, vertical schools, and a variety of public amenities. Present were both Deputy Prime Ministers, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, as well as Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar. The project, however, had received several criticisms, with opposition questioning its branding and long-term value due to its name reflecting the current administration. Following this, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the name Kota Madani chosen for the development of government quarters in Precinct 19 will be retained as the main identity for modern housing and urban development, in line with the current government's aspirations. Meanwhile, on the issue of damaged government quarters which have long plagued civil servants, Anwar said such problems have been addressed seriously by the government.
