Aaron Rodgers called too old to finish the season as ESPN analyst predicts rookie Will Howard will take his job by December
Will Howard might replace Aaron Rodgers as Steelers' starting quarterback by December (Getty Images) Aaron Rodgers may have walked into the 2025 NFL season as the face of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but if ESPN analyst and former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum is right, the future Hall of Famer might not finish it that way. In a fiery segment on Get Up, Tannenbaum predicted that rookie quarterback Will Howard could be starting by December 1, putting a major question mark on Rodgers' role in Pittsburgh. Mike Tannenbaum sees Aaron Rodgers' age and declining protection as major red flags Mike Tannenbaum didn't hold back in his critique. 'Aaron Rodgers is an all-time great, but he will be 42 in December,' he noted, pointing to the aging star's vulnerability behind a struggling offensive line. He argued that the Steelers should pivot to Will Howard, saying, 'Will Howard will be starting for the Pittsburgh Steelers by December 1.' That bold call has stirred debate not just about Pittsburgh's quarterback depth, but about whether Rodgers still belongs under center in the modern NFL. Howard, a sixth-round pick, comes to Pittsburgh with a strong college résumé, including a national title and a standout season at Ohio State featuring 35 touchdown passes and an 89 QBR. While his draft position suggests he's a long-term project, some scouts believe his ceiling is far higher than expected. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Still, he's yet to take an NFL snap, making any talk of him replacing Rodgers speculative — but not impossible. Aaron Rodgers embraces mentor role, but questions linger Despite the noise, Rodgers remains publicly supportive of his young understudy. 'Will is a good kid... I thought he did really well today,' Rodgers said in June. 'He seems pretty bright, not too big for him, going through the progressions really well.' The veteran has even made it a point to sit next to Howard during meetings, coaching him on the playbook. But not everyone's convinced Rodgers is the team's long-term solution. Some analysts, like James Harrison and Ryan Clark, believe Rodgers could become a distraction if the team struggles. Clark even suggested the Steelers should blow it up and aim for high-profile 2026 draft picks like Arch Manning. 2025 Buffalo Bills training camp preview: Quarterbacks
The Buffalo Bills are moving into their next major offseason phase in due time: Training camp. The Bills will kick off their 2025 training camp on July 23 at St. John Fisher University. As with every offseason, Bills Wire will examine each position group ahead of this pivotal time on the football calendar. Today's training camp preview will focus on Buffalo's quarterback situation. Our 2025 quarterback preview can be found below: At the top The Bills start and end with Josh Allen. Period. The 2024 NFL MVP completed a monstrous campaign last season, compiling 41 total touchdowns (28 passing, 12 rushing, and 1 receiving). He established a career-best 1.2-percent interception ratio. Allen tied for the league lead in QBR rating with Lamar Jackson. All told, Allen went 307-of-483 for 3,731 passing yards. Allen added 531 rushing yards on 102 carries. Allen's highlights were crazy to consider. He had a six-touchdown game versus the Los Angeles Rams. He was the first quarterback in NFL history to throw a touchdown, catch a touchdown, and rush for a touchdown in a game. Multiple times, the Bills put the weight of the team on Allen's back, and each time, he met the challenge. Depth chart It's difficult to imagine anyone else behind center of this team. If Allen were to miss substantial time, it would likely be the demise of the Bills' season. Short-term, though, Buffalo believes they have solid options to get by. Mitchell Trubisky slots in as the No. 2 quarterback on the roster. While he does not have the arm of Allen, Trubisky can run offensive coordinator Joe Brady's offense if called upon. He is mobile enough to run a similar scheme without the offense taking a massive detour from their core play-calling. Mike White and Shane Buechele round out the quarterback room. White is a journeyman quarterback who found his way onto Bills highlight film when Matt Milano crushed him as the New York Jets' quarterback. White does, however, have some experience, going 2-5 as a starter for the Jets early in his career. Buechele projects as a camp arm and a practice squad candidate. In 2025... As challenging as it may be, Allen may need to produce even more if the Bills are to take that final step toward the Super Bowl. While Allen's postseason heroics have been nothing short of amazing, they have gone for naught as the Bills still have failed to get past the AFC Championship game.

12 'notable' quarterbacks in the 2025 Manning Passing Academy
12 'notable' quarterbacks in the 2025 Manning Passing Academy This summer, in its annual fashion, the Manning Passing Academy will provide a unique opportunity for college quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends to continue developing their skill sets ahead of the 2025 season. However, as we all know, the quarterbacks attending receive the most coverage on a yearly basis. With the event set for June 26-29, the Manning family, led by Archie, Peyton, Eli, and Cooper own and operate the camp at Nicholls State in Thibodaux, Louisiana, and for those unaware of the camp's background and overall function, it's not just for quarterbacks to work on their basic fundamentals. "The Manning's are always the first to arrive and the last to leave. The concept of this camp sprang from the concern that even the most basic fundamental skills of throwing and catching a football were lacking during a youngster's developmental years (grades 8 - 12)." "It was this concern that motivated the Manning's to bring together some of the most successful and brightest coaches and players from the professional, college, and high school ranks each summer in Louisiana. And although the Manning name has been practically synonymous with the quarterback position for almost 60 years ...it's not just for QBs." For this article, however, we're focusing on "notable" quarterbacks participating in this year's event, led by several names that are early Heisman Trophy favorites. According to USATOP100, the following are the most notable quarterbacks participating in the 2025 Manning Passing Academy, including eight quarterbacks from the SEC. For Texas A&M, starting quarterback Marcel Reed has been working diligently this offseason to improve his pocket passing skills, and his participation in the Academy this summer is another step toward becoming a complete quarterback for the Aggies in 2025. How LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier's 2024 stats compared to Joe Burrow's 2018 season
How LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier's 2024 stats compared to Joe Burrow's 2018 season LSU football quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was solid in 2024. In his first year as a starter, Nussmeier led LSU to ranked wins over Ole Miss and South Carolina. When he was at his best, he dazzled with NFL-level throws. But like there are for any year one starter, there were struggles. Nussmeier was inconsistent in late October and early November as LSU hit a three-game skid. The Tigers offense struggled coming out of the half at Texas A&M, and those struggles continued into the Alabama and Florida contests. Nussmeier elected to return for his fifth year of college football and will be back in 2025. The story isn't different from Joe Burrow's first year as a starter at LSU. Burrow's 2018 season had high highs, but there was room to grow. Burrow returned in 2019 and posted one of the best seasons we've ever seen. LSU fans are hoping a similar fate could be in store for Nussmeier. Nussmeier ranks second in Heisman trophy odds, only trailing Texas' Arch Manning. Here's a look at how Nussmeier's 2024 season compared to Burrow's 2018. Garrett Nussmeier's 2024 season vs. Joe Burrow's 2018 campaign Stat Garrett Nussmeier (2024) Joe Burrow (2018) Completion % 64.0% 57.8% Passing Yards 4,043 2,890 Yards per Attempt 7.7 7.7 Touchdowns 29 16 Interceptions 12 5 TD/INT Ratio 2.42 3.20 PFF Pass Grade 81.3 79.9 Pressure-to-Sack % 9.8% 25.7% QBR 79.0 78.4 PPA/play .482 .372 The similarities are eerie. Burrow and Nussmeier both averaged 7.7 yards per attempt. The QBR ratings are separated by less than a point. The PFF passing grades aren't that different either. Joe Burrow was better at protecting the football, with only five picks on the year. But Nussmeier's sack avoidance mitigates the turnover differences. Nussmeier's passing yards total is higher, but that's due to the style of offense and not the individual player. These numbers are promising for Nussmeier's 2025 campaign.

What odds does BetMGM give LSU's Garrett Nussmeier to win the Heisman?
What odds does BetMGM give LSU's Garrett Nussmeier to win the Heisman? LSU football is expecting a big year from quarterback Garrett Nussmeier in 2025. It's Nussmeier's fifth-year in college football after taking over the starting job last fall. Results were mixed, but there was more good than bad. Nussmeier finished 2024 ranked No. 13 nationally in ESPN's QBR. With 4,052 passing yards and 29 touchdowns, he was one of the most productive quarterbacks in the country. Nussmeier elected to return, signaling hope for what 2025 can be for LSU. LSU has a history of fifth-year quarterbacks having breakout campaigns. Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels both won the Heisman trophy as fifth-year quarterbacks at LSU. While it may be unfair, Nussmeier is going to hear those comparisons throughout the offseason. Just like Nussmeier's first year as a starter, Daniels and Burrow didn't immediately shine when they took the reigns. It's easy to see a similar narrative when looking at Nussmeier. What chance does Nussmeier have of winning the Heisman? Heisman trophy betting odds -- BetMGM Player Team Opening Odds Garrett Nussmeier LSU +850 Arch Manning Texas +900 Cade Klubnik Clemson +1100 Drew Allar Penn State +1300 Nico Iamaleava Tennessee +1300 Jeremiah Smith Ohio State +1300 LaNorris Sellers South Carolina +1800 Dante Moore Oregon +2000 Carson Beck Miami +2000 Julian Sayin Ohio State +2000 DJ Lagway Florida +2500 John Mateer Oklahoma +2500 Austin Simmons Ole Miss +3500 Miller Moss Louisville +3500 Kevin Jennings SMU +3500 Gunner Stockton Georgia +3500 Takeaways Nussmeier is leading the way, just ahead of Arch Manning. That should make LSU fans feel good about their quarterback in 2025. Nussmeier has all the tools to launch his Heisman campaign. Coming in at No. 3 is Clemson's Cade Klubnik. Nussmeier and Klubnik will face off in week one.
