Qatar Duty Free recognises local culinary talent with new openings
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Duty Free (QDF) has launched two new food and beverage outlets—Daily Chef Nouf and Slicy—at the Concourse A Food Park in Hamad International Airport. These new venues reflect QDF's vision to showcase local culinary talent and create dining destinations that embody the spirit and diversity of Qatar. Both Daily Chef Nouf and Slicy are now open 24/7 to serve passengers in Concourse A. Daily Chef Nouf: Authentic Qatari cuisine with a modern touch A leading figure in Gulf culinary arts, Chef Nouf Al Marri has dedicated her career to preserving and innovating traditional Qatari dishes. Known for her bestselling cookbooks, international television appearances, and refined dining experiences, she has become one of the region's most respected culinary ambassadors. Located in QDF's Concourse A Food Park, Daily Chef Nouf brings her unique culinary vision to life with an all-day dining menu of elevated Qatari and regional classics —crafted with premium ingredients and presented with a contemporary twist. Signature dishes such as Madrouba and Majbous Hamour, as well as a dedicated Fatayer and Chapati menu invite travellers to experience the warmth and heritage of Qatar in every bite. This concept also builds on Chef Nouf's partnership with Qatar Airways, where she has served as a culinary consultant since 2023, developing authentic inflight dishes for Business Class menus. Thabet Musleh, Chief Retail and Hospitality Officer at Qatar Airways, said: 'We have partnered with Chef Nouf Al Marri to introduce a dining experience that is not only exceptional in quality, but showcases Qatari cuisine with a contemporary perspective. Whether our customers have a few minutes or a few hours, they now have the opportunity to enjoy the creations of one of the region's most renowned chefs—leaving the airport with a memorable taste of Qatar.' 'I'm honoured to be sharing the flavours of my country with travellers from around the world,' said Chef Nouf Al Marri. 'Food is a powerful storyteller, and I hope this new dining concept helps passengers experience the warmth, generosity, and spirit of Qatar, wherever their travels may take them.' Slicy: A local favourite with global appeal Also joining the food and beverage lineup is Slicy, a fast-growing, locally owned pizza brand known for its handcrafted New York-style slices with bold, creative toppings. With its roots in Doha, Slicy has gained a loyal following for its high-quality ingredients, playful menu, and community-driven spirit. Now open at HIA, Slicy offers passengers a relaxed setting that pairs international familiarity with local flavours—another example of QDF's effort to elevate and broaden airport dining with meaningful, locally inspired experiences.

'As our first work for Qatar Duty Free, it was an incredible opportunity to set the tone for what will be a year-long celebration,' Proctor said. 'We wanted to create something joyful and memorable, something travellers will associate with that feeling of arrival in a new way.' The campaign took flight across Hamad International Airport, with over 1000 digital screens showcasing tailored creative across key retail categories. The campaign also introduces QDF's new brand tagline, 'You've Arrived,' which aims to reflect both the arrival at the airport and the joy of reaching somewhere special facilitated by QDF's offerings. 'Leaning into the celebratory theme, this campaign captures the imagination, energy, and excitement that defines Qatar Duty Free,' said Thabet Musleh, Chief Retail & Hospitality Officer at Qatar Duty Free. 'It's joyful and unexpected, bringing to life the spirit of our offering. As the first in a year-long series of campaigns, '25 Has Arrived' sets the tone for what's to come. GCCIA, QDF sign $100mln financing deal for Oman direct interconnection project
The Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) and the Qatar Development Fund (QDF) have signed a 38.5 million Omani riyals ($100 million) financing agreement for a new grid interconnection project, linking the GCC power network to Oman. The direct interconnection will have a 1,700 megawatt (MW) transmission capacity and a net transfer capacity of 1,200 MW, a GCCIA statement said, adding that construction is slated to begin in the second half of 2025, with commissioning planned for the first half of 2027. The project involves the construction of two 400 kV overhead transmission lines with a total length of 530 kilometres connecting the GCCIA's Al Sila station in the UAE to Ibri in Oman, and includes the construction of two 400 kV substations in Ibri and in Al Baynunah in Abu Dhabi. GCCIA stated that the Oman project is part of a three-project initiative, which includes ongoing developments in the UAE and Kuwait, aimed at strengthening the Gulf grid, integrating renewable energy sources, and enhancing regional electricity trade. QDF is also helping fund the interconnection project linking the GCC grid with Iraq via Kuwait. (Writing by Deva Palanisamy; Editing by Anoop Menon) (
