Engineer Muhammad Javed Iqbal, a highly esteemed Pakistani professional, has retired with distinction following over 16 years of dedicated service at the Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa). In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Kahramaa hosted a heartfelt farewell ceremony on July 22, 2025 at the KM2 Abu Hamour Building, celebrating Engineer Iqbal's distinguished career and legacy. Engineer Iqbal is a well-respected figure in the Pakistani expatriate community and a former President of the Pakistan Engineers Forum (PEF). Over the years, he has actively participated in numerous community events and initiatives, fostering unity and professional growth among his peers. Though officially retired, Engineer Iqbal remains committed to residing in Qatar, where he aspires to deepen his involvement in community initiatives with renewed vigor and dedication. As engineers never truly retire, his enduring technical expertise—fortified by 36 years of extensive experience—ensures he remains an active practitioner. His distinguished career and steadfast commitment to community service continue to inspire professionals and expatriates alike.

Kaabi visits Kahramaa's advanced metering facility
QNA Doha As part of the ongoing digital transformation efforts in Qatar's electricity and water sectors, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and Chairman of Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) HE Saad Sherida Al Kaabi visited the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) facility. The minister was accompanied by Kahramaa President Abdulla bin Ali Al Theyab to review the latest technologies in smart meter control, monitoring, and data analysis. The visit began with a tour of the Smart Meter Control and Monitoring Center, where the minister received a comprehensive overview of the operating and follow-up mechanisms for managing smart meters, and the advanced services provided by the system, which enables real-time, accurate monitoring of electricity and water consumption, while enhancing network efficiency, and ensuring service continuity, and quality. It also showcased the system's capabilities in remotely managing meter operations, detecting leaks, service interruptions, and demand surges, as well as overseeing the prepaid metering service. The visit included a stop at Kahramaa's Unified Call Center, for a briefing on the mechanisms in place for direct, effective communication with customers, and the world-class services available via digital and telephone channels, reflecting Kahramaa's ongoing commitment to enhancing customer service and promoting customerexperience. Commenting on this occasion, Minister Al Kaabi said, 'I am very pleased to witness this achievement, of which we are all proud, and to see the technological progress achieved within the framework of Qatar's digital transformation strategy for electricity and water sectors. This center marks a significant milestone towards enhancing operational efficiency and promoting sustainability, reinforcing Kahramaa's innovation and excellence, and elevating the quality of services to the highest international standards.' For his part, Abdulla bin Ali Al Theyab reaffirmed that that the smart metering system will contribute effectively to optimizing electricity and water demand management while offering improved customer-focused services. The visit comes as part of Kahramaa's ongoing commitment to adopting the latest smart technologies and solutions, in line with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, which seeks to achieve sustainable development and modernize the country's vital infrastructure.

Kahramaa holds 2025 Annual Planning Forum
DOHA: The Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) organised its 2025 Annual Planning Forum under the slogan 'Innovation and Excellence for Global Leadership'. The forum was attended by Minister of State for Energy Affairs HE Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi. The two-day forum was convened this year to discuss Kahramaa's strategic plan for the next five years, review its main pillars, and outline aspirations for the coming period, in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030, while reaffirming the corporation's commitment to its social responsibilities. It also emphasized Kahramaa's ongoing dedication to keeping pace with future changes, meeting societal aspirations, and supporting Qatar's comprehensive development journey by deliberating the corporation's work plans and directions for the upcoming five years, reflecting its continuous pursuit of institutional excellence and sustainable quality. On this occasion, Minister of State for Energy Affairs emphasized in his opening speech the importance of the forum as a strategic platform for achieving sustainable development, stating: "Holding this forum under the theme 'Innovation and Excellence for Global Leadership' is not merely a slogan, but a practical approach that reflects our orientation towards strengthening innovation as a key pillar in enhancing institutional performance and elevating service quality to the highest international standards." In another address delivered during the forum, President of Kahramaa Abdulla Ali Al-theyab stressed the importance of institutional excellence as a key pillar of Kahramaa's strategic vision, stating: "Excellence is not just a slogan it's a continuous commitment to achieving the highest standards in performance and creating tangible added value for our customers, employees, partners, and society. Building on this path, Kahramaa is currently implementing a project to adopt the European Excellence Model and the Qatar Government Excellence Model, both of which play pivotal roles in achieving top levels of quality and innovation." The forum represents a major milestone within the corporation's annual institutional planning cycle, during which Kahramaa's five-year strategic plan is presented and discussed. The opening session included an overview of the business plan, anticipated scenarios for the future of the electricity, water, and economic sectors, along with a review of the various departmental plans for the coming five years. Dedicated sessions were held to present the plans of the Electricity Sector and the Technical Affairs Sector on the first day, while the second day focused on the plans for the Water Affairs Sector and the Shared Services Sector, in addition to the plans of supporting institutional departments. The Umm Al Houl plant has a capacity of more than 500,000cu/m per day, while the Ras Abu Fontas 3 plant supplies 165,000cu/m per day. These plants have the largest capacity certified by ACCIONA to date, solidifying their position as a key part of the country's water supply system and consolidating its transition to a low-CO2 economy. The achievement is said to reflect ACCIONA's ongoing commitment to improving the energy performance of its facilities and implementing advanced technological solutions that enable more efficient and sustainable operations. Obtaining the internationally recognised ISO 50001 certification validates ACCIONA's energy efficiency policies, as well as its ongoing efforts to achieve the highest standards in operational management, it said. Obtaining this certification is part of the renewal of the company's energy management system, first certified in 2012. It underscores energy efficiency as a key pillar in the development of transformative solutions for a low-carbon economy. ACCIONA is a global company in the provision of regenerative solutions for a decarbonised economy. Offering solutions which includes renewable energy, water treatment and management, eco-efficient transportation and mobility systems, resilient infrastructures. The company has been carbon neutral since 2016 and has a business presence in more than 40 countries, the statement concluded.
